Instead of the Traditional Unity Candle

Well hello yall, been busy here spending time with FH, we made a few new decisions for our wedding today just thought I'd share them.
Instead of doing the traditional unity candle since both of our parents are passed away, we're doing something completely different, and letting the kids do something different as well.
Since we are from separate countries we've decided that I'll take sand from my local beach and he'll take sand from his local beach and combine the 2 in a jar, my kids will choose some seashells they have found over the years, and the same with his kids and after we combine the sand the kids will each place their special sea shell in the jar. We thought this would be a great way to bring not only ourselves together but also our different cultures and countries. It's also a nice way to involve the kids in the ceremony.
What are yall's thoughts on this?

That is a really clever idea. To add to it wouldnt it be nice to somehow have a short poem about the meaning of your sand ceremony on the back of your programs. If the guest really knew the story behing your decision Im sure that would bring about a true heartfelt moment. Something like from opposite seas we came , now we joint here together along with our children to create our own wave of love happiness ....(blah blah blah) may be cheesy sorry...

I love it!!! Were doing a sand ceremony for our ceremony in the DR but I love that your going to use sand from both countries. You can put it in a really nice container with your wedding date and initials and keep it in your home as a reminder for all of you! So sweet! Here's a heart shaped one click here

As a wedding pianist, I have seen a number of sand ceremonies. The one I liked the most included the parents and some extended family. Each person had a different color of sand and they blended them together. But I like your idea of the kids adding sea shells. It will be a beautiful remembrance of your special day!

I agree with "Bride-to-Be" with something on the back of the program, everyone will know exactly what is going on - I love the idea that the sand will be coming from different parts of the world....very touching

Great idea!! One of the wedding pieces that I make is a unity sand holder. Another idea would be to fill the bottom part of the container with sea shells (from both beaches) and then when you add your sand, it trickles between the shells. The shells from the kids could either be with the other ones or on top. You could tell "your story" as the shells are added. If you are interested, take a peek at http://www.IAmWiredUp.com Under the Wedding tab, select Unity Candle Holders on the drop down. On the sample, I use shells instead of beading. I have small pebbles in this one, but I have had brides use the shells too. It also features a charm on the center piece as well as the side pieces. For WW brides, I am offering 15% off right now on everything on my site. Please check my WW storefront for the coupon code!
Good luck with your planning!!

That is a beautiful idea. I also had a sand ceremony using different colors of sand. It was such a big hit. Most people had never seen that done and they just loved it.

well we've been told it may be difficult to get the sand from the US into Aus, hoping we can go around those issues, but if not we'll still do the sand ceremony just using different colors sand like The Potters did
