How many mini cupcakes can you eat?

Bee, on January 25, 2013 at 2:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

We are ordering mini cupcakes instead of cake for our wedding and I dont know how many to order, so I was hoping to get your advice. To make it more complicated, we are having a grooms cake (its a surprise) and we will have enough for one slice each). There are 60 guests, so how many cupcakes should we get? What would you order? Here are the flavors I chose, we can do any combination of varieties:

*Red velvet w/ cream cheese frosting

*chocolate w/ cinnamon coffee frosting

*carrot cake w/ cream cheese frosting & walnuts

*Double chocolate

I'd get 2-3 for each guest. I could eat probably like 7, though, haha.

Cool, I was thinking three per guest and also a slice of the cake if they want. Thanks!

Per what unit of time? I have not reached my limit yet :-)

But seriously, 2-3 per guest should be plenty.

3 plus cake sounds perfect to me! Plus you'll probably have some leftovers. You can get little to-go cake boxes from efavormart or something and set them out so people take the extras home, if you want. We did that on our candy/dessert bar and it was a big hit, people loaded up with mini cupcakes and chocolate and cookies and we still had a crapton left over! My brother took like a pound of gourmet chocolates home, he's still eating them. Smiley smile I wish we'd set out bigger boxes, honestly!

The surprise grooms cake will be awesome, your FH will love it. Smiley smile

Well, any topic that gets Kris out is golden :-)

Anyway, the only problem with your cupcake flavors is that someone like me would have to have one of each.

Typically, since you're having the groom's cake as well, I'd say 2. However, I've been told that having multiple flavors makes people eat more (they want to try each one). I think I'd estimate roughly 3 per guest.

I could probably eat about 6-7 though. Cupcakes are delicious!

Oh you make a very good point ladies. I personally would need one of each flavor. And these are REALLY GOOD! but hopefully the appetizers, dinner and other cake will full them up a little. Kris, thanks for the idea- I am getting those Chinese take out boxes from save-on-crafts.com for people to take home extras. I figured it would be a nice favor and I dont have to get something additional for that. :-) Thank you ladies!

Lol well hi!!!!! I'm procrastinating, I should be packing but I can't stay away from a thread about cupcakes! Smiley smile

Barb that's pretty much what we did for our favors too! My mom made cookies and we packaged them up at each place setting, then since I had purchased those boxes in bulk, we just set them out at the dessert bar. Cheap, easy, yummy, done!

With cake and cupcakes you will have a great variety so I am thinking 2-4 per person depending on the person.

Can you eat or should you eat? I think however many varieties you have you should do one per person. So if you plan on having 4 you might want to assume everyone will try at least 3/4 different types.

Kris, what box did you use? Just curious, cupcake box? Or the Chinese takeout box? I've been pricing them all and trying to decide which ones. The takeout ones seem cheapest. I found they are half the price on that website than at michaels. I think I'm gonna go with the large four inch ones, what do you think? Probably fits two cupcakes or one big cake slice to take hime. Love the cookie idea too! My moms friend makes this amazing white chocolate pretzel with raisins (like a brittle). Maybe I will steal your idea and we could make that too for gifts....

We used little square boxes, maybe they were 3x3? It was SO much cheaper online like you said - maybe $19 for 100 vs. .75 each or more? But 4" or a little bigger would have been nice for cake and bigger sweets. We really wanted people to stack their boxes full and I think people were shy about filling up more than one box!

So for the cookies, my mom wanted to bake them ahead of time. So she bought one of those plastic bag sealer things at Walmart, baked the cookies 3 weeks ahead, stacked them up in the bag, sealed them airtight, then we placed a little tissue in the box, plopped the bags in, and wrapped a ribbon around them.

The size was really perfect for the cookies, she stacked 10 cookies in each box! But like I said for the take-home, I wish we'd had bigger ones.

Oh and we used mini cupcakes for our escort cards, which I thought was kind of fun. Smiley smile

Since you have different flavors, I wouldnt put it past people to have/try one of each that you would have. I know my family would.

That is so cute! I love the cupcakes as escort cards! I have never seen anyone do that, its so fun and unique! Love love love! I thought the four inch (larger) boxes might be too big, but I feel good about it now, thanks. I'm gonna get those. Maybe we will put a sign out to fill your boxes up. :-)

The sign would be a great idea! I planned to do that but forgot. Smiley smile

Here's a closeup of the cupcake escort cards. I wish I'd made the name cards look a little less DIY/krazy kraft lady but oh well. Got the job done. Smiley smile I just used popsicle sticks, used a craft punch to punch out paper circles, stamped and wrote out the table numbers on them, used a glue dot to stick the circle to the popsicle stick and our DOC stuck 'em in the cupcakes when the bakery delivered them.

I was planning to do cupcake centerpieces, but then b/c our wedding was OOT I just couldn't figure out how to build and transport the stands and I had already ordered the cupcakes so we had to use them somehow. Smiley smile
