How many hydrangea stems per bouquet?

Sara, on July 16, 2012 at 9:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I'm DIY-ing the bouquets for my wedding. I am using all hydrangeas for them, the BM's are goning to be light pink and mine is goning to be ivory. Hydrangea blooms are pretty big- I am thinking I'm goning to use 3 stems for the BM's and 5 for mine- does this sound right? Has any1 else used hydrangeas? I just wanna make sure they don't look puny but also that they aren't over-powering either. Smiley smile oPINIONS PLEASE! Smiley smile

It depends on the size of the hydrangea. Some have a bigger bloom ball at the top. I would say, hold a bunch together. If it looks too big, take some away until you have the size that you want. Some of them are big enough that 1 would be enough for the BM's.

Thanks! I googled it and I found a lot that recomended 3-5 blooms but some sites were saying 10 blooms- I though that sounded bananas, but maybe they meant for more than 1 bouquet. Smiley smile

I'm DIY'ing hydrangea bouquets too, and I ordered the bulk flowers from a local florist. They warned me that the big fluffy antique ones are actually too big for bouquets unless you plan to take them apart, so be careful of that.

I'm doing 3 in my BM's bouquets and 5 in mine as well (that's the plan, but like Soon to be mrs K said, I'll just add and take away as needed to make them nice).

First bouquet (bride's bouquet) had 3 hydrangeas

Second bouquet (bridesmaid bouquet) had 2 hydrangeas

Obviously they had other flowers in it...but this should hopefully give you an idea Smiley smile

I've seen some size variations in hydrangeas and I'd probably go with 3 or 5 depending on size. If you're including other flowers, less. From a design perspective, "odd" numbers are almost always more aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks ladies, the bouquets are going to be all hydrangeas. I just love, love LOVE them. Smiley smile I'm ordering some extras for my center pieces too but to fill those in, I am going to go to a local florist/grocery store the day or so before and p/u some white daiseys, carnations, baby's breath, maybe a few roses and either some yellow daiseys or little green poms- all just depends on what they have and what the cost ends up being. I'm only goning to have like 7 tables- and am doing a mixture of all the flowers in 3 dif sized mason jars. I think I'm good w/what-ev for the center pieces but I just wanted to make sure I'd have enough for the bouquets b/c those are the only flowers I'm actually ordering in advance. Is that bananas...? Just going to the store and wing-ing it? I'm only heart-set on hydrangeas for the bouquets- I just want the centerpieces to be a mixture of dif white flowers...?

My Florist is using 4 hydrangea's in my Bouquet, along with all the other flowers, so if you want just Hydrangea's i would guess maybe 6?? and dont forget a holder!!!! Hydrangeas need a LOT of moisture or they start to wilt pretty fast

My girls each had 3 hydrangea stems. I added blue for the MOH. Mine was a mix of white hydrangeas, tulips, and roses.
