Help! Found a dress on a knock off website

Nicole , on June 4, 2012 at 3:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Hi there,

I am Nikki, almost engaged (FH has the ring already but apparently his proposal idea needs summer to hit - ugh) and super excited. So I started looking for dresses and found two beautiful, beautiful dresses. Unfortunately I found them on showybrides.com, which after I read the horror stories about knock off websites is simply not an option. And now I discovered that my Mac won't even open the site. Big no go. So now my question is, how do I find those dresses in a real store? Since it is a knock off website, they must have gotten the idea from somewhere, right? Does anyone have an idea how to find them? I went through google galleries already but so far no success... Smiley sad HELP!

    Hey nikki welcome to ww!

if you post a picture of the dress maybe someone could identify the maker of the dress or find a replica in a store such as alfred angelo or davids bridal!

    congrats on your almost engagement!

If you can go on another computer and go back to that site it often says who the real designer and dress number is....

Try the keywords that the vendor uses for the knockoff dress. A lot of times they'll include the actual style number, and some times even the designer. If you can get the style number, then you can search popular designers and see if that style number fits, and maybe find the genuine article Smiley smile Good luck?

Oohhh, also, if they're using the same advertising pics that the designers use (a lot of knockoff's do) you can search the image in tineye.com and see if you get a hit. For example, a tineye search of this knockoff: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm-img/533767984-Hot-Sale-A-line-Taffeta-Semi-Cathedral-Train-Wedding-Gowns-Wedding-Dress-Free-Shipping-wholesalers.html

would let you know that it's an alfred angelo

You can do a Google image search -- did you save the picture to your hard drive? On Google Images, there's a little camera on the search bar where you can upload the picture, and it'll look for similar things. That's one way that might lead you to the designer site.

Also, normally on the knock off site, it'll tell you the name of the dress/designer.

Have you tried on any dresses yet? What you love in a picture may not be what you love on you. Maybe take a day to go to David's Bridal first to get an idea of what styles you like.

Thank you so much everyone for the nice welcome and tips. After I fought with this stupid MacBook (it is new and I have to admit, I am still fighting with the OS lol), i was able to save the pictures. I think. Let's see what happens. Smiley laugh

Anyway, I used the dress numbers but nothing but showybrides came up. So let's see if the pictures will be attached

Oh my goodness, the camera thingy on google spit out a lot of websites. From what I've seen so far they seem to be China based websites as well but maybe they include the designer name or so. Thank you! (And bam, lunch break is over. Grrrr.)

The background on the first one is used for almost half the Alfred Angelo dresses that I've seen, so it might be an alfred angelo

The top one is Alfred Angelo 1614, and the middle one is a different view of that same dress. Unfortunately I think it might e discontinued too, but you can always call around to different boutiques and see if they still have it, or at least you know what to search for when you're looking. I LOOOOOVE that lace overlay look Smiley smile

I went through most of Alfred Angelo dresses but thanks to everyone's help here, I found out that it is from 2010/2011, so therefore might not show up on the website. But I am on a mission now. I will find this dress, and if it is the last thing I do Smiley winking

You can also print out those photos and take them to your local bridal salons. If you cannot find that exact one, perhaps ones similar to them. Good luck!

And please change your default avatar so we remember you better! (Mika AND Nicole)

I've tried it. I uploaded a picture and it would rotate itself and be upside down. No idea why. I even rotated it upside down myself, saved it and uploaded it again but it would still be upside down. Smiley sad And my phone won't let me do it whatsoever. But I will try it again once I get home from work. Smiley smile

Edit: I chose another picture and it worked. I am sad though because I really wanted a pic with my FH. :/

@Mika: Let me repeat. You are amazing! Thank you so, so much!

Mika, you really are the wedding gown specialist. But hey, I am so proud, look what I found while spending hours over hours looking at dresses... http://www.sinceritybridal.com/sin/3664# This is a different designer but it looks a lot like the Alfred Angelo dress that was discontinued. I am pleased. Smiley laugh

    Hi everyone,

I am really hoping someone can help me out! I really want this dress, but I can only find it on knock-off websites. It is a bridesmaid dress... does anyone know who makes the original?? Thanks!
