HELP!!--Engagement Pictures

Hi Ladies! You are so amazing when it comes to giving advice so I am hoping I can use some of your amzing-ness :) I will be taking my e-pics in a few weeks, and I have a rough idea of what shots to take and what to wear. But the one thing I can not find is the perfect dress to wear while running through a field! It's been a thought for a long time! :) I was thinking a long flowy dress, casual to semi casual. I think I am leaning towards a solid color as patterns might be too busy.
Do you have any suggestions on where I can find the perfect dress for this?? Thank you in advance for your help! :)

I would agree about having a solid--thats what our photographer recommended. This is going to sound random... I don't know what your budget is but Victorias secret has alot of REALLY cute dresses, both long and short... here are some examples-- they also come in a variety of colors.

Dress #1

Dress #3
I think their summer catalog has more of the long dresses so you might want to call and ask if they still carry them. If these are too expensive let me know and I'll find ones w/in your price point!

Oh I loved getting my engagement pictures done. A block colour is definately best as patterns can be far too busy in photos. I would suggest comething just below the knee to mid calf so that it doesnt fly up too high while running and that it doesnt get caught on grass and things and not go up enough to get that beautiful photo. Definately go for something flowy. I think you should go hunting and try on a million dresses find something that flatters your body and you feel amazing in. You should feel gorgeous when taking the photos so that you are nice and relaxed.

I had the same questions when we did our engagement pictures, and I was advised here to wear solid colors, and it definitely worked out. But I had a jeans and a cute shirt, and my husband jeans and T-shirt, we both had black shirts and I think it came up really cute. specially in the black and white ones. Regarding the poses, your photographer will guide you, and just be natural with your FH, and they will come up great!

Our photographer also suggested softer pastel colors for a more romantic feel to the photos versus bright colors.

From my personal experience, our photographer was awesome and I had a print and my fiance had on a solid. We had over 400 photos taken....I had on a jacket with my print top and that made a more finished look.

Everybody here is right about solids. Sometimes you can get away with prints if they're mild and in a studio setting, but I never personally recommend it. If you are going to be in a field (particularly at this time of year) I would recommend earth tones and warm tones for colors - browns, tans, golds, reds, oranges (not for everybody, but if you can pull off orange go for it), maybe dark purple, etc. These colors really compliment outdoor sessions. You can always work in black or white. I like blue jeans with solid black or white shirts if you want casual. Find out if you can do outfit changes, because it is nice to have a casual option and a more formal or dressy option like the dresses you are looking at. It is great if you and your fiance have colors on that compliment each other but aren't the same, though matching is certainly not a photography crime. :) The main goal will be to have a contrast to your scenery. Hope that helps.

Oh, and if you want, it might be helpful to you to go to my blog and read the post about "Preparing for your outdoor session". It's a list of things that people often don't think about before they go to their outdoor session. http://idealportraits.blogspot.com I think it's on the bottom of the page. :)

Solids! :) And if you're going to be in a green, grassy field...I'd go with BRIGHT (Not green though). I love the red dress from Victoria's secret!! SEXY, yet classy! :) Blacks are always good, purples (like Ideal Portaits said...dark colors look best in photos). Just relax and have fun...let your photographer capture the true essence between you and your man! :) Have a blast! :)

Definitely go for a solid colored dress. Pick a vibrant colored dress that will definitely stand out against the grass, but nothing too bright. A nice pink, bright blue, or red would probably look great.
