Gifts for Parents??

Tiffany, on May 2, 2012 at 12:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

This may sound mean but are you supposed to get gifts for the parents even if they didnt have any involvement in your wedding?? I am just curious because I know most of the time the parents are involved whether its financial or just emotionally and its only right to get them something to show your appreciation, but what if you and your FH did everything yourself without the help of your parents? They did buy their attire for the wedding so I guess that counts. Not to sound ungrateful but just wondering if I should have a gift for them at the rehearsal dinner or not.

I was thinking of waiting til we got pictures back and making an album on mixbook or shutterfly for them.

Ummmmm.....I guess it just all depends on the bride and groom. I know I will be giving my parents something, but FH will more than likely not get his parents anything because they are not the most helpful with certain things as far as just stepping up because this is your kid. However, me being me and not wanting to hear his mom I will get her a gift. Just depends on the situation and bride and groom. Hope this advice helps.

We are going to get both parents albums once we get our pictures back. Other than that, I plan on doing something special for my mom. She has contributed a lot to our wedding (without the help of my dad) and she deserves it. I plan to take her out for a day of pampering by getting her hair colored and cut and getting her a manicure and pedicure.

I think if your parents have been there for the process in any way, you should do something for them.

We did not give gifts to our parents at the wedding. We paid out of pocket for the wedding ourselves & made sure our guests (which was just our families) were very well taken care of for the day before & the day of the wedding. We actually had a few surprises for them which I suppose most would consider a 'gift' to them.

Once we get our pictures back we'll be putting together a wedding scrapbook for them which will include memories from the trip.

Our parents are getting wedding albums, not planning anything for the rehearsal dinner.

None of our parents are helping much, we just know they will like an album to remember the day.

Oh okay! yea thats what I was thinking. That a photobook/album would be good for them. And something that they can enjoy. Because even though my parents can't help much I know they like to show off and brag about stuff...so they would love it!

I think I will stick with this idea.

I am also on the no clue what to get our parents kick.

We are paying for everything ourselves but, not quite sure what to do either. Maybe there is something that goes with your colors or theme you can do? Maybe if you do the parents album depending on the parents, yours or his, you could throw in a couple of leading up to the big day shots and time with them in the front...or some pics from when he as young or you were young with your families. Those would have to be the ones made through like shutterfly or one of the other companies though. Good Luck Smiley smile

We are giving out personalized wedding albums to our parents. It was difficult because his parents are doing so much but wouldn't accept anything too expensive, where my parents didn't do diddly but expected something nice. Albums are always nice and not too expensive.

It doesn't have to be a "thanks for helping with the wedding" gift. For my parents, its a "thanks for rasing me right and being here for me today" gift.

@Takara- Your mom sounds like my mom! She is a gadget person!!

Sarah- Thats the thing, My dad and FH mom did nothing...not even raising us lol. They are just invited because its the right thing to do. But we will still give them a "thanks for coming" gift

Flush mount albums will always go a long way. Their elegant and of high quality, meant to last. They're a way for your parents to always remember the joys that they shared on that momentous day.
