Fake vs real flowers
My wedding venue has gorgeous silk white rose tall centerpieces for all the guest tables...I really like them as far as fake flowers go...but I would like to get some burgundy flowers to add some color. These real flower centerpieces would actually go on columns on either side of the ceremony alter (ceremony and reception are going to be in the same ballroom). At the end of the ceremony, I was planning on incorporating these arrangements on the bar and the other on the gift/guest book signing table. I would not add the real flowers to the guest tables with the silk arrangements. Is it tacky to mix real and fake flowers? I can't decide...

Not tacky. I've even seen florists do it.

Thanks for your input! When I was at the venue a couple of wks ago, they said that they actually have a florist come in to make sure the flowers look as "real" as possible...I believe them as I think they are gorgeous and that is why I really want to use them..also, it helps that it will save me a fair amount of money :)

Its not, I would just advise that you or your coordinator make sure the silk flowers are properly cleaned prior to your event. Silk flowers have a tendency to collect dust after a while and you wouldn't want that to show on the actual day.

I agree with Exceptional, I do not think it would be tacky at all as long as you make sure that the silk ones are cleaned properly. If you want to add a little color to the centerpieces tie some pretty ribbons around them or put them on some burgundy silk napkins if your linens are white also.

My bouquet is going to have fake and real flowers in it. I found one I liked and the florist told me Gardenias were hard to touch because they will turn brown so I said how about fake mixed in and she said ok . So the only fake flowers are the gardenias.

The last wedding we went to had both fake and real flowers in their centerpieces and we couldn't tell the difference. We were actually feeling the flowers to see which ones were real and which ones were not. They were fantastic.

I rarely use silks with fresh, perhaps its just preference. IF I do, I only use very high quality silks, the kind that cost as much as the real thing and are extremely realistic. Orchids come to mind as a example of when I would use silks. There are nice quality ones out there that don't need the care fresh ones require in my colder climate.

And, yes, gardenias would probably be easier to use silks, but the smell & delicacy of fresh ones is hard to beat!

I love silks. I just got married on 10/31/09 and all of my bouquets and flowers at church were silks. They looked excellent and I have no regrets at all!
And mixing real with silk is a nice thing to do, I don't think it is tacky at all.

As long as they are nice and clean and you like the look, why not!?

Go for it, and if possible have a Florist help you out. Make sure they are clean and you already have mentioned you love them so use them. I have done centerpieces for my brides before mixing silks and real and they look beautiful. Do what makes you happy, but again if possible ask for advice from a Florist either on staff at the venue(s) or find a good one that will look at the centerpieces with you and ask her opinion on adding a few real with them to compliment the real vases you will have.
Good luck with everything.

I just did a wedding last weekend where the centerpieces were mixed real and silk flowers. It looked great! They saved money on floated orchids by getting silk and then had real roses. It'll be great!

It really depends on the grade of fake flowers you have I have real touch flowers and you can not tell the difference between them and real flowers so it all depends on the fake flowers you have

Go for it! It they're clean and high quality why not? I'm considering using fake altogether just because of my allergies. I don't want to be sneezing all day long. :)

Silks are great and they last forever. I am so happy that I will always have my bouquet!

I am using silk flowers mostly because I am very sensitive to smell and prone to headaches. Also because I want to preserve my bouquet and I'm not willing to pay an arm and a leg to do so. I've already done a sample DIY bouquet and I'm very pleased with it. I'll just be adding a few more flowers to make it a bit fuller. I may end up getting fresh roses for my MOH & BM because so far I'm not impressed with any of the yellow silks I've seen anywhere. But there are some very good quality artificial flowers available.

In some instances, there's no other option but to incorporate silks with fresh. (i.e. wanting peonies for an October wedding; it could be done, but the bride didn't want to pay what the peonies cost) I don't think you will do any harm by doing so. Like another poster said, just make sure you request that they be cleaned thoroughly, and you should have no problem. Good luck to you!

i would use the fake flowers for the centerpieces and mix em with the real especially since it's already there.
