Fake Flowers?
Has anyone seen fake "real" looking zinnias? I would like to put my flowers together in advance. I'm from an extremely rural area, so I'm limited on resources.

Since your wedding is in June, you would have time to grow them. What are you using them for? Centerpieces? bouquets? Sometimes you end up paying more for decent looking fakes than you would for the real thing. One packet will grow several flowers.

I'm going to use them for all my flowers..ceterpieces, bouquets. I thought about growing them, but I'm from KS and zinnias don't look their best until late July.

Yes I have, as a matter of fact one of my couples is going with wooden flowers instead of real ones. I can tell you they look very real unless you touch them.

I don't see anything wrong with artificial flowers. I am highly sensitive to fragrances and prone to headaches so I am using artificial flowers for my bouquet and any centerpeices. I got mine from Hobby Lobby. Not sure if there's one in your area but they have good sales all the time. They just had a 50% off all floral stems sale last week. I fully understand wanting to do stuff ahead of time. (HEY! I just realized we're date twins! YAY!!!) Like you, I still have 7 months to go and I've already done my bouquet and my toss bouquet. Good quality flowers can run as much as real flowers though. I spent in the neighborhood of $40-50 for mine and my toss. But I think they look fine.

There's definitely nothing wrong with permanent botanicals. To each his own. Ladylee is right that Hobby Lobby has very nice silks, and if you have a Michael's near you, or within reasonable driving distance, they do, too. We have a chain here called Old Time Pottery. Again, a nice place that has real looking silks, but Ladylee is also correct that they can run you about the same price as fresh flowers. Just look around for what you like, and many times, you can mix other floral varieties in with your main floral choice, if it's something that you like the look of. Good luck to you! :)

I'm also using fakes for the same reason as you to get them ready well in advance. We're getting them at a local flower shop and ordering them by the crate since it'll be cheaper in bulk.

(We're date twins too!!!)

I love DIY and am totally geeked about putting my floral arrangements together. FH and I stopped by Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge Pottery here in Houston and I too found 50% off floral stems at Hobby Lobby. I spent $36 for the arrangement and I am very pleased.

We dry zinnias and I think they look great. June is a tough early month for heat loving annuals. Try a local grower the flowers should last a week; so 2-3 days ahead with care will work. Preserved flowers can look great too and I'm a totally fresh flower person up til now. Try www.ASCFG.org for a list of local flower growers.

We are using silks too and all of my flowers are already done and I did them all myself. I prefer silks to real ones because for one, you can get them all done way ahead of time, two, they last forever and we have a nice curio cabinet that the wedding stuff is going in to after, and three, I am VERY sensitive to smells and suffer from massive migraines... no unexpected pain for me with silks.
