Ebay dressmaker
Hi all,
I was just wondering your thoughts on getting a dress from a custom-made ebay store. The one I found in particular has sold over 500 dresses and has a 99.8% rating. And the best part is, it is sooooo cheap!

Stressed induced insomnia. Hopefully, we will get a phone call soon telling us that at least one of us has a job. I have looked on ebay and have considered ordering a dress from them especially since paypal guarantees satisfaction. Though, I would be sure to order it far enough in advance that you could send it back if it is not what you wanted.

Could you please post a link to that store?
The thing with custom made is that you probably won't be having any fittings (unless they are local to you). I guess you would send them your measurements? In that case let someone professional take them. You'd be surprised how off they can be when taken wrong. Also be prepared to take the dress for alterations later.

If they are in china don;t forget to add at least 2 inches on all sides for your measurements (asian women are more petite than US women so their sizes run waaay smaller). Its always easier to take something in rather than having to find matching fabric and try to let something out later.

See if you can e-mail some of the clients who gave a good rating. you want to make sure they can tell you about their experience from begining to end. Sometimes ebay doesn;t give you enough space to tell your true experienc eso you only end up saying positive/negative, etc.

Good Luck! I got my dress of of ebay but it wasn't custom made. It was from an actual bridal shop. you might want to check out some of those too if you are not comfy with the whole custom thing.

A lot of women from another wedding board are buying dress from China ebay vendors, I am thinking of getting a TTD (Trash the dress) from one on ebay.

i have found a few places on e bay that custom make dresses and they are WAY cheaper, however do remember to add a couple inches to the measurements so if any alterations need to be made it wont be as hard(as said above). also i have found that these stores make "knock off" dresses they are not THE dress a lot of times. but the differences cant really be seen unless you know what the original dress looks like. the dress im looking at the only difference is it is missing one row of beading on the top part of the dress. good luck and post those addresses!!

Check out the reviews, check the BBB, and have at least some email conversations with the company before committing to buying something. Leave enough time for errors and be realistic about what you can expect in terms of fit and style. Even dresses bought traditionally have to be altered a fair amount before they fit. I got mine from China and am happy with what I got.

Thanks for the great advice!! They are located in China and I have got to contact previous buyers and they all say that while the dress might have been slightly different it was still extremely beautiful.

Here's the link to the dress I want. What do you think?

From a dressmakers point of view... I have altered dresses from sources similar to the one mentioned. Some turn out to look good and some are not as great as the bride would have liked. So far , the quality of the construction and fabric in the gowns are not as good as most designers gowns.

For some brides, all they want is a pretty gown. They are on a budget and just want something to get them through the day.

But if you are a bride who is particular about the quality and construction of the dress... having support that is built in the dress to keep it's shape... then you may not want to buy one this way.

Remember, the inside construction of the gown is as important to the design as what is on the outside. A well made dress is comfortable to wear, requires less adjustments for alterations and photographs well. Read this: http://www.perfect-wedding-dress-finder.com/chinese-wedding-dresses.html

I Ordered one b-4 on E-BAY. Bad Bad choice. It was from china very cheap so i went ahead with it. The dress came and didnt look nothing like the picture. I also sent them my measurements and i dont know if China's measurements are wayyyy diffrent then U.S But god i couldnt even get the gown on that's how small it was.. bad experience. From now on i will deal with bridal stores.. just becareful ladies this is our one and only day we cant afford something like this to happen..
