Dress Help Needed
Ok so Wednesday I am going to meet with my dress maker to see if he can come up with something to meet my needs. Being as this is our first meeting I also need/want to make sure the he is for real and not some shlub from the street who just thinks that he can sew. I need help coming up with questions to ask him. Any ideas greatly appreciated...Oh yeah I already told him that I want to see pictures and get some references. So if you have any questions that I can ask the references those are appreciated also.

1. what happens if the dress doesn't look how you it would?
2. will you have to buy your own material?
you should have him do sketches first.
i would bring pics of diff styles of dresses you like.
so that he can give you advice

The deposit that we give him pays for the material. He's going to be making a sketch on Wednesday off of the pics that I bring. We are also going to ask him how much it will cost to make a veil to make the blue in my dress..or I should say alter the veil that I already have. He also requires three payments. The deposit, the 2 payment that will be due at the first fitting and the final payment will be at my final fitting...I think that covers everything that I already know...Sorry I guess I should have added that to my original post :-/

well you seem to have it all togethor. my main concern would be susposed it doesn't fit how you thought it would? Are you going to see a sample of the material?
Make sure that you get what you pay for.
Good Luck!!!
Let us know how it turns out :)

Yes, he will be doing a mock up of the dress and that is what I will be trying on at the first fitting..before he adds all the bead work and what not. That way I can make sure I like the fit and everything before he actually cuts into the real fabric.

JJ- ?? for you... have you already tried on dresses in the style of the pics? Only asking to make sure you like the style on you.
Even though it's getting cut for you.. what happens if something changes between first measure and final cut? Will they allow for alteration room for the JUST IN CASE? weights fluctuate - especially when there is stress :)
Also will they give you an actual timeframe so you aren't always waiting for the call? Is there a written contract?
Overly paranoid person here that has watched so many people get burned... SORRY! Just want to make sure people's butts are covered.

No I haven't tried on any dresses yet because he is going to be helping me figure out what will look best on me. I'm assuming that there will be room for alterations because that makes sense to me. There will be a written contract to cover his butt and mine. I have already told him that I want the dress at least 3 months before the wedding incase something goes wrong.
