Can someONE please explain...

Why is it that when you look for dresses in PLUS SIZE (or should I say "REAL WOMEN SIZE") they look Just as RETARDED.... it's like they make them in our size but by the time you get them in something BIGGER then a 10 you just look 4 stages worth of EXTRA FLUFFY, like a cloud or a DAYUM marshmallow (A-line, empire OR NOT)???? someone please HELP a Sista out..... I MEAN I don't know about you I got HIPS and my trunks got JUNK. I REFUSE to look like a CAKE TOPPER..... I wanna look elegant and Prestigious on my WEDDING day, and half the time when you try on dresses you get depressed cause your like "I look like a BIG a** glass of MILK"..(and then again it could be just me.) Does ANYONE else feel this way???? I mean I KNOW most of these dresses that are "Couture" only show Stick figures in them and the sites that show the girls that are bigger they seem like they always put them in dresses that are PLAIN and BORING....Does any one agree with me or am I just basically DELUSIONAL???

100% with you! I've noticed that the one's geared towards larger sizes make a statement and that is - if you are larger - you have no taste.. REALLY???? whatever!!!
It's no better with the BM dresses either... I think what I am sick of is the "Fat Tax" as one of my plus sized BM's so lovingly calls it.. you know the additioanl $10 - 25% (since there is no set rate...) for a little bit of FABRIC!
On a positive note... *THE* dress is out there - Keep plugging and keep smiling (or at least smile through the gritted teeth) There's just a lot to look through! It *WILL* appear!

lol girl.... see I wasn't ecen gonna get started on that shiet..... cause even the dresses if you over like a size 18 it's like the price automatically goes up atleast 200 dollars, but they won't show that in large numbers, you gotta look at the through a HIGH POweRed MICRO scope....BUT i'M STILL LOOKING still pressing on, but it's hard cause when you plus sized, some times when you go try on a dress it's usually out of maybe 8 dresses you try on 2 possibly might be in your RIGHT size, the others are small to the point they make you look like a DAYUM BUSTED CAN of biscuits, or you swimming in it to the point they done pulled you so tight that your ribs are screaming for MERcy....

I am a G cup girl (no that is not a type O I am a G cup) with more junk in the trunk than I care to admit. I have a smaller waste proportionally and big birthing hips ;) One thing I noticed was all the paces I tried on gowns they wanted to put the puffy slip on me. I know it is normal to use but with my booty and hips it will be ok without any extra padding around me. So tell them your don't want to try it on with it and you will find you like the dresses more and feel 10x more comfy or at least I did! Also don't go for the brands you see in magazines go for some unknown brand and I think you will be happier!

I need to order one cause everyone is telling me it's aabout a total of 9 months for it to come in and be altered... and need to decide on a dress so I can start working on accessories....

For sure don't do DB they have horrible customer service! You may want to talk to a seamstress and see what kind of deal she can make you on making one for you!

I did and they are one of the people that made me feel like I was EXTREMELY Fat, I mean I'm only like a size 20-22 depending on the dress.... they made me feel like I was a 42 or some stuff, and it seemed like try dresses where like EXTRA material....

What is up with the SLIPS??? If you already have a way to fluff the back do ya really think we need more?? LOL!!
I know you said you tried the Maggie S Stuff - did you like any? (Huge fan of the corset backs cus it adds hourglass (ish)to my round shape..lol...
A lot of designers have their "Destination" lines they seem to be less puffy :)
Are you stuck on white? Sometimes adding in a hit of a color somewhere can take away the glass of milk feeling??

HEll no... this is why I'm having a problem.... I ORIGINALLY wanted an ALL RED dress, ( moms said she wasn't helping pay for the wedding if I did that ) so I'm compromising, by finding a WHITE dress and having a seamstress put red embellishments on it, so I can have my red.... its a matter of finding a white dress i like....

I know exactly how you feel. I too am a curvy plus size woman. I went to DB and they gave me a bigger size dress to try on. Some dresses didn't look right on me. Just gotta keep trying on the dress until you find it! Don't worry, You'll know when it's "the one" :)

Well I am plus size. I'm a 16 or 18. I had a lot of trouble but I finally found my dress. I probable tried on 80 dresses. At first they keep on giving me these flowy type dresses but I was like um no I look pregnant. I refused to try on a dress with the big crinoline thing because I don't like them. I had one lady try and tell me that she had a beautiful dress but it's not my size. Then she went on to tell me I could imagine what it looked like and if I liked it I could order it in my size. Again No! I'm not going to buy a dress if I don't know what it looks like. One shop called Savannah Bridal pretty much was unless and did NOT help me at all. She was so rude. I ended up walking out.
Anyways girl don't give up ! You will find your dress.

If you are already having a seamstress embellish your dress it might be as cost effective to have her make the whole thing and then you know it will fit and be what you want!
.
PS I love your theme!

bestbridalprices.com one of the better sites I found for a bigger girl. I'm about the same size as you, hardly anything on top, but think from belly down.. :-( I hate it... We have a "mom n pop" shop here where I live and I went and tried dresses on in Aug. I thought I was going to feel all yicky but I didn't I went amazing.. and I never felt like that before. the last thing I want is a plain boring dress..
Keep trying and maybe there is a shop that isn't too popular in your area you can try out.
I have a pic of the dress i tried on, on my inspriation boards.
Good luck with everything.. n know you're not alone

which db did you go to? i went to the one up in maple grove, mn and they were fantastic, all my girls got their dresses there too. although one hint... never buy a dress that fits just right, i bought the regulatory 1 dress size too big and almost overflowed my big day... to much stress added too many inches to me. when i originally tried on dresses i fit 14, wedding day i barely squeezed a 16. ugh, but they were always super courteous. and there were lots of other bigger girls there too. just my opionion i guess

I know you have said that you want to try them on, but try this site from the UK:
http://www.bridalwearplus.co.uk. (sorry can't get it to insert as a link)
I got my dress from there, and as long as you measure yourself accurately using their sizing charts, you should be fine. I got my dress from there and it is a perfect fit. Not a marshmallow or cake topper in sight!

have you maybe thought about designing the dress yourself, and getting it tailored? I know that is not really done over in the states, but Im living in Ecuador for a few years (cause of my job) and if you can't find something that fits right, you get som fabric and get it tailored to your size and your liking. I have really begun to like this, cause I can get anything done to my size, which is complicated also, cause i have nothing in the back nothing in the front, but plenty in the middle!!! lol.. so Maybe you can try and design it yourself, Make it to your liking, and perfect for you size. It's your wedding, you gotta look amazing!! and if you can't find something that makes you looks amazing, then make it!... Im suggesting it, cause I've already begun to design my dress. Looking at different dresses and just mixing them up, and getting the most beautiful dress specially made for me. a unique one!

Gyrlz ya SCARING me!! lol
I actually can't wait til we go dress shopping, even if the experiences are less than desirable. First we have to find a venue & then I think that will give me some ideas on what I would like the dress to be like. At this point I have no idea.

When I got married I went to Davids Bridal and tried on several dresses and never did find one that I liked after I put it on. Then I went to a small boutique and she didn't have a whole lot in stock but I loved her prices. I looked through the catalogs and ordered a dress. Granted it was simple. It had white satin on the top and the bottom and in the middle was some bead work but I loved it! It even had a small train. It had a full bottom and I think I looked beautiful. You'll find your dress!
