Does a flower girl have to throw petals on the aisle?
I'm getting married in a public park and don't want to have to worry about too much clean up or anything that might count as littering. Is there something I can do besides having her throw petals on the ground that would still be sweet and elegant? Would it be okay to just have her carry a bouquet like the bridesmaid and walk with the ring bearer?

I was in a wedding last october where the venue would not allow flower petals to be thrown because of a legal issue they had when someone slipped and fell on one (stupid i know) but instead the bride had two flower girls and gave them each roses that the girls distributed to the people sitting on the edge of the aisle as they walked down it. It was really cute

I had two flower girls and niether one of them threw flower petals, or anything for that matter. They eached carried a pouched that matched their dress and held hands. So anything you decide is perfectly ok, as long as your ok with it.

A flowergirl can be a delightful way to add whimsy into a wedding, they can sometimes steal the show! LOL
One wedding we did recently had the flowergirl in a fairy outfit with glittery wings and she had a wand to tap the guests as she went down the aisle. it was very cute. It actually had the guests applauding!

Others have the girls walk with tiny pomander ball bouquets.
If very small they can be pulled in a decorated wagon.

If more than one flowergirl they can carry a small garland of greenery and flowers between them for a garden look.

Have fun and have a beautiful wedding

there are lots of options for flower girls, other than tossing petals. she could carry a basket filled with flowers in the wedding theme, or just carry a miniature version of the bridal bouquet. and, yes, having the flower girl walk down the aisle holding hands with the ring bearer can be darling, and she can either carry a little bouquet or basket, or even just have a sweet little wrist corsage or a head wreath.

Pomander Balls can be so beautiful. I like the all black ones with red ribbon or the all green ones with a hot pink stripe all the way around and a green ribbon to carry with. Google Pomander Balls in Google images and you will find great pics...

Jenn,
I just had my wedding and I had my flower girls carry miniature versions of my bouquet. Every one thought that they looked elegant! I didn't have bridesmaids, so we modeled their bouquets after mine - I think it would look beautiful if yours carried a bouquet like the bridesmaids.

Another option is to make a special "Build a Bear" for her to carry down the aisle with flowers tied around it's neck. I've done this for several weddings and got rave reviews. It's sweet and she can keep it forever if she wants. Have a wonderful wedding.
