DJ??
Is $940.00 to much for a DJ from 4pm-11pm? This seems a little high to me but I don't know?

You're getting a deal. The performance time is for 7 hours. What you don't see is the time spent preparing your music, travel time, setting up and tearing down. What you're really getting is closer to 10-12 hours of the DJ's time.

Seems very reasonable, depending on what's included.

Absolutely, not too high. You will find a wide range of DJ fees. Personally, my fee STARTS at $1,000 during off-peak months and goes up from there. Saturday weddings during peak months (May through October) are when 99% of the demand is for the better, more experienced, higher quality entertainers and other wedding vendors.

A truly professional wedding DJ has invested literally tens of thousands of dollars in his business -- the pro audio equipment and the music, primarily -- plus all the other expenses of running a business.

And a truly professional wedding DJ will devote many hours of time IN ADVANCE of your wedding meeting with you, consulting with you, pulling special music requests for you, reviewing your floor plan, helping you with your timeline, going over the names for the grand entrance, and so on. So you're not just paying him for the time he's spinning music, you're also paying him for the time to customize his services to YOUR wedding needs.

That's a good price, Fawn. My standard fee would be $1050. But, seven hours seems like a long time for a reception. Most wedding receptions are for five hours. Is your DJ also providing the music and sound reinforcement services for the ceremony?

Seems high if the service is not what you are looking for. You don't sound like you have the warm fuzzies with this company. If you did you would realize that it is a great deal. Shop around, ask for references and be clear to them with what you are expecting.
Good luck!

That is a fair deal.

Remember that the DJ is responsible for carrying the entire event from start to finish.

It's much more than just playing some songs.
They read the room and make sure the flow and energy are always at an appropriate level which affects your guests comfort level.

Think of it as an insurance policy against all the money you've invested into your wedding. If you try to cut costs and end up with a DJ that performs poorly then people will leave early and your entire investment may have gone to waste.

I've had plenty of last minute calls from frantic clients because they haggled pricing down too low and then their DJ canceled because a higher paying gig came in.

I wish you a fantastic wedding!

That is a very good deal. The national average is over $1400 for a quality DJ. Remember that a professional DJ (one that does this for a living) will spend 20 to 30 hours in preparation and performance time.

Check out www.topdiscjockey.com for questions to ask your prospective DJ.

Have a great wedding.

According to my research, DJs in your area (Sun City) range from $800-$1200, and that is for a basic package, which is usually four or five hours. You're asking for seven performance hours, so that would up your range to $1000-$1600, depending on the experience and skill level of the DJ you hire. Remember, about 80% of the success of your reception will depend on how good your entertainment is (according to Modern Bride magazine). If your DJ is good, experienced, has good equipment, is personable, and gives you the feeling you don't have to worry about anything because he/she is your DJ, then you've got a great DJ whether you're paying $1600 or $940.

If your DJ is that, then you've got a GREAT bargain!!!!

Best wishes on your wedding!
