In Some families, the mother-of-the bride or the bride's closest relative or friend, will host what is called a "Bridal Shower" or sometimes called a "Wedding Shower". Gifts are given such as pots & pans and items to stock the home with. Alot of people will also give silly gifts at this time as well.

The "Bachelorette party" is usually held 3 weeks to the weekend before before the Wedding day and the bride and grooms friends usually host this event. It's a night of celebration or sometimes known as "The last night of freedom", and it can be held anywhere from a home, restaraunt to a night club. Gifts are also given - but the gifts are on the more funside, Sexy to gag gifts for the bride & grooms first night and year together. Some Bachelorette parties can even be a day at the spa with the girls or boating, hiking. You make it what you want.

The bridal shower is hosted by friends or family to "shower" the newlyweds or bride with gifts for the home and is a "family friendly party.
This can be coed or traditional ladies only.

The bachelorette party on the other hand is for the bridesmaids and close girlfriends to let their hair down and have a night on the town.
Rent a Limo and hit the night spots and have a great dinner.
Or one popular adult party is the in home Lingerie and "toy" party, there are people who offer this service same as Tupperware! LOL

Some of the brides may opt for a more relaxed Girls day out and treat themselves to a spa and pampering, for a more sophistciated bachelorette party.

Just make sure to do this 2 to 3 weeks before, so you can be relaxed and looking gorgeous on the big. day. Those night before parties are only in the Movies ! LOL

Yes, I agree with the other bride on here. Definitly have both! During the bridal shower ( usually given to you by your mother and bridemaides, maid of honor) and its a party given in your honor. Usually all women, you have a great party and get gifts that you put on your bridal registry-- You can have fun playing bridal bingo! haha.. I bachelorette party is a time to have a GOOD TIME with your girls!! Dinner, dancing, bar hoping, spa treatments... Have fun!
