About
Dolce Studio Films (formerly known as Dolce Video) is a premier and award winning studio specializing in event filmmaking.     Featured in Washingtonian Magazine as one of Washington, D.C.'s Best Videographers in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.  Featured in The Knot Best of Weddings among the Best Videographers in the Mid-Atlantic region in 2007, 2008 and 2009.  Included in the prestigious Grace Ormonde Platinum List of recommended vendors for 2009.  Our expertise is in bringing your memories to the screen.  Working in HD, SD and Super 8 and using Final Cut Pro to edit (just like Hollywood!) our filmmakers employ a documentary approach and will not ask you to pose or create an unnatural event. Always discreet, we believe that a subtle presence is what is required for capturing successful footage. Our shooters always dress professionally and seemingly take their position within the background of your event while documenting everything that happens at the forefront.  Although we use a documentary approach when capturing your story, we embrace a cinematic approach when bringing it to your screen. Montages and live footage are combined, resulting in a video that is artistic and tasteful while keeping your project, your story, as the main focus.

Dolce is one of the finest videography companies in DC. Their style is documentary, low key and unobtrusive. They are wonderful to work with, thorough, incredibly creative and yet somehow they always manage to be low key and in the background. Our clients always return and thank us when we recommend Dolce. This genuinely says it all.
It's always our pleasure to work with Dolce Video. Photographers and videographers often seek to document the same special moments throughout a couple’s wedding day, but Dolce videographers are particularly thoughtful to communicate with our photographers in advance about camera placement. They are also especially skilled at avoiding being caught by our lenses! Their consideration results in harmonious photographic and video coverage. And the sweet tooth in me loves their name!
The Dolce videographers are always great to work with. They are professional and unobtrusive. They are considerate of the other vendors, and polite to the guests. They arrive on time and are conscientious of the event timeline. I recommend them to all of my clients. I also think it's important to remember that while still photographs are great - things like vows and toasts can only be fully caught on video. So I recommend all my clients include videography into their budget. You don't have to contract for an edited product immediately - at least get the raw footage and save up for a great edited video for your first anniversary.
I worked w/ Natasha for a June 28th wedding at the Ronald Reagan & International Trade Building. She was an absolute pleasure to work with. Always smiling and always there to capture those precious moments of emotion - often overlooked. All the while being very unobtrusive. I have worked with many others, but they simply cannot compare. My bride spoke very highly of her and Haynal of Dolce Video. As a result, I started referring Dolce to my couples. Danielle & Nick were not disappointed and neither will you.
I have been recommending Dolce Video for many years. Their work is always elegant, fun, and beautiful. All of the videographers at Dolce are unobtrusive and great to work with. Their equipment is current and they have great style. you will find it a pleasure to have them at your event.
We have had nothing but great experiences with Dolce. With a wide range of packages, they have something for everyone. Our clients love watching their Dolce videos!
As an experienced wedding DJ who takes pride in working closely with all the other vendors to ensure a smoothly run wedding reception, I am always pleased to find myself at an event where Dolce Video is working along with me. Whether it's owner Haynal Papp or one of the shooters who work with her, the Dolce Video videographers I've worked with have all been exceptionally professional and pleasant. Having seen them in action many times, I can attest that you really get your money's worth with them -- they are very active throughout the entire event, and they seem to do so without getting in the way of the guests. They are a class act all the way!

Yes

Are you a commercial studio or a home-based business?
The Dolce Video studio is attached to a private residence in North Arlington, VA.

What types, such as unedited footage or special effects, of videography do you offer?
We offer unedited and edited video packages served by one, two or several cameras over a one, two or several day shoot. We customize as well, so your needs will always be met.

Describe any special editing services you offer:
We can edit your video entirely to your specifications if you wish.

Do you have lighting equipment to accommodate a more dimly-lit event?
No, we do not wish for our clients to feel as though Steven Spielberg has descended upon their event! We try to avoid the use of lights if possible. If we absolutely must use a light, we use a small 3 - 10 watt light. This rarely happens, but if it does, please remember that 40 watts is not enough to read a book by and 5-10 watts during the dancing portion of the evening if the room goes "disco dark" is not very disruptive.

How many videographers do you work with?
There are 12 video journalists shooting solely for Dolce Video.

Does the client get to meet the videographers before the event?
The photos and bios of all of our video journalists are available on our website, under the "artists" page. If the bride wishes to speak with their videographer by phone, this can be arranged. If she would like to see specific examples of that person's work, this can also be arranged. If she still wishes to meet the artist in person, this can also be arranged. Finally, if she wishes to retain a specific shooter to guarantee her artist, she can do so by paying a retainer fee.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
A guarantee for a specific shooter is available by paying a retainer fee. Oftentimes, this is not necessary. Our shooters are booked months in advance and clients will know who is working on their event date well before the event if they call the studio to ask.

Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Dolce Video is able to offer a high-end product at a mid-rage price by booking multiple events per weekend. Our goal as a company is to continue to keep our prices affordable while offering a product of exceptional quality. We have not raised our prices in 3 years, despite the continual increase in operating costs. This is our commitment to our clients and prospective clients.

Do you have a replacement videographer in case you become unavailable on the event day?
We never have all 12 video journalists out at one time. The goal is to continue to have additional shooters on hand if an emergency occurs.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
We are easy to get through military and security check points! We bring only one camera bag and one tripod per shooter.

Do you bring backup equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
No, but there is back-up equipment available at the studio in the event a team should need some. This has never happened (knock on wood)! Our cameras are cleaned before and after each shoot and are serviced professionally by our engineer twice a year.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Though our contract states that we can take up to 10 minutes each hour, we actually only ever take one break to eat a meal. If your shooter seems to be missing for 5 minutes during any other time of the day, they are likely shooting in another room or possibly getting a drink or using the restroom. Otherwise, we have way too much footage to capture to be gone frequently or for long! In most cases, we take less of a break than the law requires for an 8 hour shift (most of our video packages offer 8 hours of coverage time).

Do you charge overtime?
Our overtime rates are both affordable and flexible. $25 per shooter, per 15 minutes. This allows you to chose the number of shooters and doesn't force you to book by the hour. Please pay overtime in cash on the day of the event. If you prefer to pay by check at a later date, there is an additional $50 processing fee.

Do you give access to your raw footage?
Yes. We provide a copy of all the raw footage shot that day, free of charge. Our philosophy is that you have paid to have professional shooters and equipment at your event, so there is no reason you should lose anything to the editing room floor. Your raw footage is provided on the master MiniDV tapes or will be copied to a VHS tape for free. If you would prefer to have your raw footage on a DVD, there is an upgrade fee which is determined by the total number of hours of footage.

Do you reserve the right to use the video in the future for promotions, contents, etc.?
Our contract states we do, though some of our clients ask to waive this point on the contract, which is fine.

Is the client involved in the editing process? If so, how much input does the client have in editing?
Our brides and grooms may submit music, special instructions, photos and their input within three weeks of the wedding date. We ask for cds that are non-returnable and written instructions to be sent to our PO Box. Your editor will also contact you when they begin working on your project to discuss your edit with you.

How long does it take for the client to get the final video?
2-4 months, depending on the time of year. Early Spring weddings are closer to 2 months and by late summer and fall it is likely to be closer to 3-4 months. If the bride or groom is late in submitting their input to us and has made it clear they wish to do so before the video is edited, the video will be ready 2-4 months from the date we receive the materials. Please remember, this is not McVideo! Every video is hand crafted by an editor (using a computer, obviously). This is an intensive process which is then followed by a peer review by another editor on the team. Even if you have chosen a Solitaire package, no less than 3 people on the Dolce Video team have worked on your video to ensure it goes out to you to the Dolce Video standard!

Additional Questions and Answers
How long is a typical video? - If you have selected one of our standard packages, your video will be about an hour long depending on the length of your ceremony, speeches and toasts. I really prefer to see much of my footage live and not have my video look like a long music video. Do you offer this? - About 40-45 minutes of your edited video is live footage, interspersed with short montage pieces set to music. Your ceremony, speeches, toasts, blessings and dancing will all be in real time, with the live audio. The final chapter of your video is a highlight of the entire day from start to finish, set to music. Are there any hidden fees? - No! You pay the price of your package, the cost of the parking and meals for your shooter(s) and no more. For items not offered in your package (overtime, additional copies of your DVD, upgrading your raw footage to DVD), there are charges, but we try to keep them low! Do you require a deposit? - Yes, we require a 20% deposit to book the date. The balance is due on the date of the event.

Tips and Advice
Regardless of what video company you choose to share your special day with you, don't save your budget by opting out of a video! Even brides who were adamant they did NOT want a video have phoned, written or emailed to thank us afterwards. If you're throwing the most expensive party you're ever going to throw and it's over so quick, it really is a shame not to be able to revisit it. You cannot experience your vows, speeches, toasts, your band or DJ in a photograph! You need sound and motion to bring these memories back for you and to share them with your children. I was a bride myself not too long ago, and I barely remembered half the day afterwards! Being a bride is all about schmoozing the guests, so on the day of you miss all those details you planned for months! It's only in the comfort of your living room that you will truly be brought to joyful tears when you re-experience your day on film.
