Let me first say that being the daughter of a Jeweler, I am very, very selective, and a little biast in doing any kind of business within this field. I have to send a congratulations to Mervis Diamonds, and espically to Emelie Brebeck for her outstanding service and knowledge of her business. You have my vote for sure! Best Regards, Isabella Bastien Makeup Artist L.L.C www.IsabellaBastien.com
Mervis Diamond Importers is an outstanding company to purchase your engagement and wedding rings from....as well as any "wedding gifts" for the bride or groom!
My husband bought my own engagement ring at Mervis in Tyson's and as a wedding planner, I continue to send my brides and grooms there as well. Service is top-notch and you feel like you're the only one in the store when they set you up in their private sales rooms. They are a true DC institution and it's no wonder why they have been so successful.

Frequently Asked Questions for Jewelry
What kind of jewelry do you offer?
Custom Engagement Rings, Custom Wedding Bands, Designer Accessories, Designer Engagement Rings, Designer Wedding Bands

What brands do you carry?
Tacori, Jeff Cooper, Veraggio, Martin Flyer, Sasha Premak, Claude Thibadeau, Christopher, Coast, Precision Set

Is your jewelry hand crafted?
Yes. The beauty is in the details and we believe there's no substitute for high-quality craftsmanship. Nothing we sell is produced overseas or mass-merchandised. You can be sure that your jewelry will last well for many years to come and will hold its diamonds securely. Now, of course, regular wear and tear happens and occasionally a diamond will get knocked loose. But you can be confident that a Mervis ring is made of strong, pure metals and the ring's prongs hold the diamond as firmly as possible.

Do you offer custom design other than selecting the stone and setting separately?
Yes. You dream it and we'll help you make it.

Do you offer ring sizing in-house? If yes, how long will an average custom order take, from initial contact to delivery?
Yes. We have several jewelers in-house.

Do you offer stone upgrades if the client purchases their original stone with you?
Yes. It's a very popular program with us and makes a great gift for future anniversaries. We give you 100% of the original purchase price of the center diamond to use toward a new diamond. We have no minimum upgrades.

Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes. We have flexible financing options for 30 days, 3 months, 6 months, etc.

Additional Questions and Answers
What if I don't know her ring size?

If you can do some sneaking around and find out her ring size, that's easiest. But if you don't know, we stronly advise against "sizing on a guess," which results in future re-sizing. The best option is to propose with a ring that's un-sized, and then come back to us later to size the ring to her finger perfectly.

What's the most overlooked issue when choosing an engagement ring?

Remember that the engagement ring will be worn side-by-side with the wedding band. If you choose a fancy setting, consider what kind of band will match it. Even if you're not planning on buying a wedding band until several months later, we still recommend taking a look at the bands and seeing what combinations are possible.

Do men's and women's wedding bands have to match?

There are no rules when buying jewelry. Some people like their bands to match, while others focus more on individual personalities and lifestyles. Perhaps he is more active and needs a more durable ring. Perhaps he wants diamonds and she doesn't. It's a matter of personal preferance.

What are the differences between platinum and white gold?

Most people don't realize it but white gold is a man-made metal, mixing yellow gold with other alloys such as nickel. Regardless of where you buy your white gold, in time its whiteness and luster will fade and begin to show its yellow gold natural properties. Every few years you'll want to take the ring to a jeweler to re-plate with rhodium, and the ring will look as good as new. The up-front cost of white gold is lower, but if you consider these maintenance costs, platinum seems more desirable to some.

Gold is inherently a softer and lighter metal than platinum. If you hold a ring of each type in each hand, you'll feel that the platinum ring is much heavier and more solid feeling. Because platinum is stronger, many jewelers will use platinum heads and prongs to hold the diamond in a ring, even if the rest of the ring is gold.
