The Winthrop is an amazing venue! Jamie Berg and the entire team at the Winthrop are WONDERFUL! My wedding had a LOT of last minute disasters and Jamie held it all together and made it all happen, never breaking a sweat, and always keeping her cool. It's the most beautiful place for an intimate wedding and a great value compared to the NYC and coastal venues and surrounding areas. BIG FAN!
The Winthrop Estate is simply stunning, a beautiful venue both inside and outside for a wedding (or any other event). We had our wedding there in June 2011 and had a magical weekend. The entire wedding party -- 24 of us -- stayed at the estate, and everyone seemed really pleased with the accommodations. (We spent all day on Saturday before the wedding playing volleyball and football outside on the gorgeous lawn.) The key is Jamie Berg, the owner of the estate. In addition to being incredibly professional and organized, she and her staff are constantly helping to make sure the weekend runs smoothly. Refreshments and snacks, fresh flowers in the rooms, a delicious breakfast, setting up the ceremony chairs, helping to decorate the house and the tent for the dinner and reception -- they did so many things without even being asked that helped make the weekend perfect. We can't recommend the Winthrop highly enough!
The Winthrop Estate was the perfect place to have our wedding. Jamie Berg was great to work with, and recommended Crocus as our florist, who was also wonderful. At first we decided not to do it there because renting it for the whole weekend was too expensive and the configuration and number of rooms didn't match up very well with our guest list. But as planning progressed it seemed our plan of renting the Rookwood Inn for the weekend and having the ceremony and reception there would not work very well. 40 guests was just a few too many to do comfortably, and renting a tent for the lawn was going to be expensive and awkward. So we decided to see if Jamie would let us rent the Winthrop just for the day on Sunday, and she did and it was wonderful. Although it was May it wound up being only in the 40s on our wedding day, but inside it was warm and beautiful. We used one room for the ceremony, one for dinner, etc. The Winthrop coordinated all the vendors for us and made it all easy and beautiful so we and our guests could focus on having a great time! The bedrooms also came in handy as a private place for a guest to nurse her baby etc.
The Winthrop was a sublime location for our wedding. We held our ceremony out on the lawn- though we had a back-up plan of having it in the sunroom inside in case of rain. The setting was nothing short of spectacular. It was a luxury to stay and celebrate in such a place. Jamie worked alongside us to make it a beautiful event. She took care of details that hadn't occurred to me, like candles along wooded walkways, making it all the more beautiful. Ethan and Jamie clearly have an elegant and tasteful eye, as well as a a good deal of professionalism and attention to detail. Just what you want from people working to make a wedding run smoothly! We enjoyed every moment. Our guests loved the Winthrop and the grounds so much that they would not leave when the time came!
The Winthrop Estate is a beautiful guilded age estate tucked away in Lenox, MA right near Tanglewood and the town center. It is a "luxury vacation rental" so the entire house must be rented for the weekend. They have 12 exquisite rooms that you and family can stay in. Having our wedding here was the most incredible experience. We were able to hang out with our friends and family throughout the entire weekend, which really brought people together. The outdoor ceremony location is just beautiful, with a view of the Berkshire mountains in the background. Jamie is kind, patient and helpful. Everyone said they had never been to a better wedding.
The Winthrop is truly as beautiful a property as one could ever imagine. When you step into the Winthrop you step back in time. You expect to turn the corner and find Robert Redford as the Great Gatsby handing you a gin and tonic on the veranda. It is far and away the most impressive property in the area, and we looked at and stayed at many.
It is a meticulously restored late 19th early 20th century mansion. It posses all the best qualities of both a private home and in Inn combined, and it is easily on par with any world-class 5-star establishment. But, fundamentally, it is simply a home (not an Inn or Hotel) and that is what makes it so tremendously unique and so wonderful. When you host an event at the Winthrop you feel, and your guests feel, like the event is taking place right in your own home (assuming that you lived in a giant mansion). It is a very different feeling and than taking over an Inn for the weekend, and we could not possibly recommend the experience more highly.
But, perhaps more impressive than the splendor of the property is the attentiveness and capabilities of the owners and their team. We decided to be our own wedding planners and "simply rent a house and throw a wedding". It was a nice plan and we were fortunate that it worked out great. But, it only worked out so well because Jamie Berg and her team were so tremendously attentive and, without us even knowing to ask, took on the role of "Site Managers" during our 3 days. The reality is that we had ourselves in way over our heads and didn't even know it. It could have been a disaster. After all, what bride and groom want to wake up at 6am the next morning to great the breakfast caterer! But, before we even realized what was happening, Jamie and her team were coordinating the arrival and departure of our vendors; setting up and breaking down different rooms for different functions at different times; stocking the fridge with food, putting flowers in rooms, keeping the premises spotless; the list goes on and on. They responded brilliantly to every wrinkle we ran into in both the planning process and particularly during the event. From our experience, we would say that when you rent the Winthrop you are getting much more than simply a gorgeous property in which to host a function, you are getting a 5 star event team as part of the deal! And, we certainly learned how critical that is.
The Bergs were also great with vendor recommendations, once again providing us with far more value than just their property. Our florist, dinner caterer, breakfast caterer, valet and even our minister were all recommended by the Berg and were all outstanding.
In summary, our wedding at the Winthrop was everything we could have hoped for. The Bergs were wonderful to work with and the property is stunning. We are already trying to figure out a reason to have another event in their beautiful home!
