"The Torpedo Factory is a fantastic place for a wedding, it's VERY cool and VERY modern-looking. They have their own in-house lighting crew, and I'm always impressed with the way they are able to turn the space into a very striking setting!"

"Wonderful venue, some of the best views around!"
"Looking for a unique venue? The Torpedo Factory is where it's at! I love this venue because it's in the heart of Old Town Alexandria (convenient to hotels, parking garages, the waterfront, restaurants, etc), is affordable, is HUGE for being a relatively historic property, and best of all is one-of-a-kind. Where else in the DC area will you find an industrial-looking art center? With the lighting package from John Farr, this spot really turns into a beautiful and completely unique space. I guarantee your guests will be talking about for years to come. It beats any hotel ballroom, hands down. Give Tara a call and go check it out! Be sure to look at the photos of the space with lighting...it's a completely different feel than during the day when it's open to the public."

Awesome place to get married if you are looking for something different. We had a non-denominational ceremony there and a beautiful reception. Make sure you take care of the lighting here- it is even more important than the flowers. We took pictures on the water after the ceremony too. Just an all around great location.

I couldn't have asked for a better venue in which to be married. It helped us create such a unique environment that represented us. Tara, the events coordinator, was extremely flexible with things we needed for instance we provided our own alcohol so we needed to drop it all off a week prior to the event.

I would highly recommend the Torpedo Factory because you can completely tailor your event to what you want.

This was one of our favorite things about the whole reception. We knew that we didn't want a typical "cookie-cutter hotel" wedding nor did we want anything that was historical, because of all the rules they have with those places. The TFAC was perfect because it let us really personalize what we wanted in the space. It's probably not the "cheapest" option, but it definitely lets you take total control of what you want your reception to be/look like.

We loved the Torpedo Factory for our reception venue! Tara, the Events Coordinator, is very friendly and helpful, but also busy and sometimes a little slow to respond. The setting is very unique and you can totally make it your own. But one piece of advice, this venue requires that bring everything in so it is not for the vendor shy or disorganized. It requires a lot of coordinating. We didn't have any issues despite our many vendors, and would definitely use TFAC as an event venue again!

I held the reception for my recent wedding at The Torpedo Factory Art Center and it was wonderful! The space is very unique and is perfect for a reception! The staff at the TFAC were very quick to reply back to all of our questions and helped us immensely when planning the layout and timeline for the night! I would have another party there in a heartbeat! Many thanks!

We wanted to do something different for our reception, and went with this place. It's an awesome venue, but not worth the money. We had to work with one person, the Special Events Director, and that was a nightmare. At first she was awesome. But after the deposit was paid, there were a lot of issues that came up and a lot of hidden details that were left out at our initial meetings. As much as I loved our reception, we could've gotten more for our money somewhere else. Just beware, if you book this space you basically get nothing. It's just a shell. We spent a lot of money to make it look good. Rought around $20K more than what we had or wanted to spend. Be cautious... cool venue... it's different... but it's just a shell.

My husband and I had a lot of sentimental attachment to the Torpedo Factory Art Center. On our wedding day everything was beautiful and we got a lot of compliments on how great it looked. Our one complaint with the Torpedo Factory was that we were told less than two weeks before our wedding at our walk through that the event coordinator would not be at the Torpedo Factory that night. Then, even on wedding night, we never met the replacement coordinator. Everything went smoothly, but this was somewhat unsettling. This was an area where I think our Caterer's previous experience with the venue was what really made everything run smoothly rather than the TFAC's service.

The TFAC is clearly not your typical wedding ceremony/reception venue, but if you're looking for something different, it can be transformed into a spectacular and impressive space. The events coordinator Tara was always very accessible by email and answered any questions quickly and thoroughly. It is relatively pricey, especially considering that you are only paying for the space itself, no rental equipment is included and must be rented separately or through your caterer. One key thing to keep in mind though is that your vendors cannot access the space to set up until the TFAC closes at 5 p.m. So you must plan accordingly to allow your vendors enough set up time before your guests come in and the ceremony begins. We rented all 3 floors, so that our guests could hang out on floors 2 and 3 during cocktail hour while the 1st floor was flipped for the reception. Our guests LOVED the location and have been raving ever since about how unique it was and really provided them with things to do while they socialized (like checking out the artwork through studio windows). A 3rd floor studio was also available for rent and we used that space for the bridal party to get dressed and ready.

The Torpedo Factory Art Center was the only event site that we looked at when searching for our ceremony and reception location. We knew we wanted it the second we walked through the doors. It's a wonderful community space that was transformed into a beautiful, elegant location for our special day. The location in Old Town was great as well. We definitely had to pinch pennies in other wedding budget areas in order to afford the rental fee ($4,000) for the night, but it was worth it. Because it's an art center filled with valuable work, there were some limitations on timing and decorations and there were extra costs for insurance and the liquor license. But the event manager and other staff were friendly and more than helpful. They played an integral part in the success of our rehearsal and in the perfect flow of our event on the wedding day. We could not have been happier with how it all turned out.

The venue is unusual, and I'd recommend it for couples looking for something more modern and unconventional. Together with a lighting service (which is contracted and paid for separately), the space can be made to look quite extraordinary, with colorful uplighting on the columns. We had the ceremony on one side of the first floor, then had a cocktail hour on the second floor, which cost a little extra to rent. That was awesome--the second floor has catwalks and people could look in on the art studios while they had a drink. Then they headed down to the first floor again for dinner, which took place on the other side of the first floor. The ceremony space became a dance floor. We had about 125 people.
The woman who coordinates weddings, Tara, is really great. She is flexible, creative, accessible and explains things well. She knows the space well and was helpful in helping us figure out where everything should go.
One small drawback of the space is that, based on when the venue becomes available and when it has to shut down, there is not much of a window for caterers to set up and dismantle if you want a five-hour wedding. Our caterer was concerned about this but made it work. It's important that your caterer know about the timing issues going in, so they can staff accordingly in order to have enough people to do the job fast.

The Torpedo Factory is a great venue for an alternative/funky wedding for 100 people or less. We used one side for the ceremony and the other side for our reception. The location in Old Town is great (lots of hotel options, bars and fun shops for guests) and for us the non-traditional space was a real plus. We did very few flowers, and instead spent the money on a lighting designer (light effects on the industrial poles and the ceiling) and bringing in really huge plants to define the space. Our wedding was very us and incredibly memorable for our guests and the space was a big part of it.
The staff was helpful--the team on duty the night of our wedding was really nice and they were friendly to the guests while not interfering. The events coordinator was neither here nor there, but she made the contract and outside insurance process (you need to get a special insurance policy which cost us about $200) pretty hassle-free.
The Torpedo Factory does make you pay to have security guards posted at the front door (and the back door too if you want guests to be able to go out to the pier--which we did), but the cost was reasonable.
Overall, I highly recommend the Torpedo Factory. The space was a huge part of making our wedding feel special.
