Ceremony & Reception Venue

I would recommend this venue to EVERYONE wanting to throw a wedding/reception on a budget for a 150 or less people. Me and my husband got married in Hawaii then had our reception here and it turned out better than I expected. Brock (the property mgr) is more than easy to work with and agreed to meet with me anytime I had questions or wanted to do a walk through. This place allows you to bring in your own caterer and bar which was important to me being that I'm kind of a control freak. This property was beyond well maintained and I've had numerous people tell me that my reception was the best one they had ever been too.
Pros: affordable, great location, not tied down to a specific caterer or bar staff, plenty of parking, beautiful property, tables and linens available through venue, property mgr was great to work with.
Cons: only holds 150 people, responsible for clean up afterwards

The Simpson house was perfectly charming. We had the ceremony outside in the yard and it was beautiful! I received many positive comments on this venue. Brock, the manager, was nothing but great to work with. Centrally located in Kansas City. Great location, beautiful house. We had 110 guests and we were very comfortable.

The Simpson House is an old mansion home right off the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City Missouri. It is a beautiful well-kept property. The outdoor backyard/garden area is ideal for a sit-down ceremony of 100-150 people. Unfortunately, it rained on our wedding day and the grounds were too wet for chairs. The property manager disallowed putting chairs in the yard (understandable) but he did allow my guests to stand on either side of the "aisle" so we could still have the ceremony outside. It was only a 15 minute ceremony and no one minded standing. The inside of the home was very nice and the dressing room upstairs was well lit and perfect for my small bridal party to get ready in.
The house manager, Brock Ginther, was more accessible by email than by phone and was flexible with regards to the several trips my mom and I made to view the house.

We paid to rent the house for the whole day (per contract a 12 consecutive hour period). My father arrived to meet Brock to open up the house. Brock as a reminder to my father & the wedding party posted a copy of the contract in the kitchen stating that we had to be out of the house by 11:30pm. The woman who came to close the house arrived at 10-10:30 and sat on the main stairs of the entry way with a disgusted look on her face as the remaining of my guests were leaving. She told my father that we had better hurry up with the cleaning as we had to be out by 11. My father told her no the paperwork said 11:30 and when he went to go get the paper found it missing as she had taken it down. He then insisted that she provide the paperwork and she begrudgingly did and agreed that it said 11:30 not 11. We paid $1900 to rent the property for the entire day. I feel that we deserved every minute of our rental agreement and my family should not have been treated so poorly. The only other comment I would like to make is that we were not shown how to use the air conditioning. Although the day was cool, once all of our guests were in the house the temperature quickly rose and A/C would have been nice since it was included in the price.
