We actually didn't use Simply Vows for our wedding, but we tried to. My fiance was in charge of getting an officiant. When he told me about Ernie, he was really excited and I was excited too -- everything sounded great. When I talked to Ernie on the phone, he was agreeable to my suggestion for a contract, even though he said he doesn't usually use contracts, because he knew that I was a law student and my dad's a lawyer so contracts are a requirement for us. I asked about a deposit, and he said that once we were in his appointment book -- which we were -- our date was set with him. My dad drafted a contract, and while it was long (standard form) there was nothing negative in it. I read every word. A couple weeks later, my parents told me they had received a letter form Ernie refusing to sign the contract. When my fiance called Ernie to talk about this, he basically threw out some philosophical excuse and then told us that he had already booked someone else for our date... without telling us. If you're okay with an officiant who says he will agree to a contract, then doesn't, and then books someone else on your date without telling you, this is the one for you. Otherwise, keep looking.

I am sorry the McLaughin's felt this way. The contract sent was twelve pages long, was never signed and sent back in a timely manner with full explanation on my part. I spoke frequently with Ms. McLauughlin's fiancee explaining why I did not feel a contract was necessary and finally he concurred. After much discussion with the fiancee an agreement was made that I NOT perform the ceremony and the groom agreed and said he was disappointed but that he understood. All of this transpired while there was still plenty of time for an officiant to be found and a ceremony to be created. Because I had NOT signed the contract, I sent the Mclaughlin's a written letter explaining why I would not sign the contract and informed the groom well in advance of the wedding that I would not be performing the ceremony I saw no reason why I should not have the pleasure of performing a ceremony for another client that contacted me well after I thought this was resolved. Please consider the other referrals I have received to get a true view of the services I have provided.
