Oh, Raspberry Plain, how do we love thee! We picked this place because it had fantastic outdoor options as well as an indoor option that would feel outdoors if we needed it. (The Grand Conservatory is such a lovely space, especially lit up at night.) R.P can also hold up to 200 people, which was what we were originally expecting. Our final guest count of 160 fit with room to spare. After meeting with Maria on our first visit, we knew we would be in good hands. She was amazing from the start, answering all of our questions quickly, organizing, planning, etc. She even went out of her way to get us 10 extra chairs from a local hotel. We never waited for more than a day for a response from an e-mail, she was always courteous and kind and asking if we needed anything else. We paid a little extra to hire her as the day-of coordinator and it was worth every single penny! As the bride, you want to feel like things are where they need to be, when they need to be there, and Maria accomplished all of that and more. I didn’t have to worry about one thing all day long- it was fantastic. It was such a pleasure working with her and Raspberry Plain is such a gorgeous venue. We give them both two thumbs up and highly recommend them!

Maria is helpful and the venue is lovely but could use some updating in the higher trafficked areas.

We just got married at lovely Raspberry Plain. This venue is exceptional, from it's gorgeous scenic views and beautiful historic decor. Maria is a pleasure to work with and is very detailed oriented (which I appreciated). Keep in mind, this venue is not cheap. There is the venue fee, a $1,500 deposit, then you must bring in ALL outside vendors. The plus is that you can bring your own booze (no kegs though). You also have the option to have your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all at one location - which is a HUGE plus. I wouldn't change a thing about my wedding venue and I HIGHLY recommend Raspberry Plain.

First off, Maria is great to work with and my wedding was better than I could ever have imagined. I got married on Aug 27, 2011, the day Hurricane Irene hit Virginia!
I had originally planned to have my wedding ceremony and cocktail hour outside and take advantage of all the beautiful garden space at Raspberry Plain, but we had to move inside because of the rain and wind. This was diappointing at first, but turned out beautiful and even more romantic. The rain on the floor to ceiling window panels during the ceremony was so exquisite and romantic. And there was plenty of room inside for all our guests to mingle during the cocktail hour while the caterer's staff transformed the main reception area from ceremony to reception space. I rated value at a 4.0 for 2 main reasons. (1) We rented the entire facility for the wedding, and then had to still pay another $400 for the carriage house for the 2 hours prior to the ceremony for the groom and groomsmen to get ready. It seems to me that if you are renting the place exclusively for the entire night, the space to get ready should be included. (2) the Bridal prep room is very tiny. I had 5 bridesmaids and myself, mom, and wedding planner and we were crammed in there with very little space to spread things out and get ready. Also, it wasn't very private once people started getting there. But again, these are little things. Maria was great, the facility was great, and our guests are still talking about how wonderful the whole night was.

I was married at Raspberry Plain and it was everything I envisioned for my wedding day. Maria was our day of coordinator and she did a great job. The guests all had an amazing time and LOVED the venue.

The entire process from start to finish was seamless. Maria did a great job of heading us in the right direction as far as vendors go. She was quick to respond to all of my emails. We also used the Carriage House for our Rehearsal Dinner and it was a BLAST!
On the day of, everything went exactly as planned. The caterers/photographers/band etc. were all in line with Maria and what we had planned. I didn't have to do anything . . . other than have a great time!!! My parents were also extrememly pleased with the entire process.

This venue is amazing-it's so beautiful. Everything inside the house is gorgeous and the views outside at the ceremony sites are fabulous. I had a beautiful ceremony facing the mountains and a gorgeous reception inside. The owner of the venue is extremely flexible, reliable and accomodating. She helped my mother and I through several conflicts and was very attentive to us and we knew she really cared about making my wedding special. She was also there to give advice and direction and was a set of helping hands the day of. She also has extensive knowledge of vendors in this industry and can help you select ones that fit your needs. My family and friends were so blown away by this venue and I heard chatter of interest in holding their weddings at the Raspberry Plain as well. I hope I get to go back as a guest sometime...

My daughter and son-in-law loved this venue. Everyone did! It is nestled back among beautiful trees and breath-taking scenery. The atrium is spacious and glorious! The house is a lovely, spacious place for guests to visit before and after the wedding/reception. We chose to have the wedding ceremony here as well as the reception which worked out wonderfully. Maria was quick with her email responses and tried to be as accommodating as possible. This venue made the wedding a dream come true for our newlyweds! Many thanks, Maria!

Raspberry Plain was the perfect venue for our wedding. My husband and I saw it and immediately knew that it was where we wanted to get married - there are beautiful grounds around the mansion and also gorgeous rooms within the mansion, all of which are perfect for a ceremony, making RP a very flexible venue (great spots rain or shine). The manager, Maria, also served as our wedding day coordinator and she did a wonderful job - we were so stress free the whole day and our guests all commented on how relaxed we were.

I have read the comments that said Maria was difficult to work with but my experience with Maria for our October 3rd wedding was very pleasant. As soon as I saw RP from the bottom of the hill, I knew this was where I would have our wedding. Maria was very flexible with us and easy to talk to. The venue was beautiful and all of our guests have commented on how perfect the venue was. We had the ceremony in the back under the canopy and reception in the Grand Conservertory. Maria was kind enough to allow us to have babysitters on site for the children of our guests. We didn't want to have screaming babies and toddlers so we hired babysitters to watch the kids during the ceremony and half way through the reception. It worked out perfectly. We ordered pizzas for the kids and they had a great time with the sitters. All in all, everything went as we planned it and we could not have asked for a better venue. Thank you Maria.

My daughter's wedding and reception were recently held at Raspberry Plain. We could not have been happier with the service provided to us by coordinator Maria Guerra. She was professional, friendly and helpful. She was not intrusive in any way during the ceremony and reception but she took care of everything without us having to ask for anything.
Thank you Maria.

Raspberry Plain is a gorgeous and very special venue. I highly recommend it to brides who want something memorable and unique. While it's on the more expensive side, it's worth the cost because you can bring in your own alcohol, which is a HUGE SAVINGS in the long-run. Maria is very sweet and pleasant to work with, but I liked having a separate wedding coordinator do the planning part. One wedding-day snag is that they forgot to set up the mobile dancefloor we had paid for, so we were without one on the day of our wedding. This turned out to not be a big deal because there was more room for more people to dance. Great venue though!!!

Raspberry Plain was a beautiful wedding location and I would not change having our wedding there, as it is breathtaking. The facility is gorgeous and well-kept and is perfect for pictures and just the uniqueness of it. Maria, was always pleasant to deal with and very responsive to our questions over email and when dealing with our vendors. I had a wonderful experience with my wedding, but some things that led me to rate RP low in some areas were: I specifically asked during our walkthrough about the temperature in the bridal room, because our wedding date was right in the hottest time of the summer. I asked Maria if we should bring a fan for the room since it was summer and the room isn't too big - she assured me not at all - the room was extremely cool. The room was NOT cool, I was almost in tears b/c I and my bridesmaids were sweating in our dresses in the room. I had to have my bridesmaids run ice cubes up and down my legs to cool me off before going outside for the ceremony, and I stood right in the window where the air conditioner was with a handheld fan. Also, I was extremely disappointed that Maria's child came into our reception room during our wedding. I understand that the family lives in their own quarters of the home and Maria and her husband run the facility, but I thought it was highly unprofessional that during our wedding her children were allowed to be walking around the reception Grand Conservatory and bar area. I totally expected she and/or her husband to check on the progress of the wedding - it's their home and their business - but when you are running a business and people are paying a significant amount of money to rent your facility for a formal event, I do think it is inconsiderate to bring children into the area. I rated the value for cost as a 3, because they only have a private area for the bride to get ready. I thought it was silly that the carriage house you have to pay for in addition to the exclusive event fee, if you would like a spot for the groom to be able to wait in private. My husband and his GM gathered to get ready in the dining room area because it was not worth paying another $1,500 for an hour of privacy for him, I thought the charge was excessive. I did appreciate that when another bride wanted to scope out our event lighting set-up, Maria did ask our permission first. Although we paid for exclusive use of the facility from 3-12, we were not comfortable with the short amount of set-up time we had, having other people come by, as my husband and his GM were taking photos around the site and video and we didn't want other individuals disrupting them and our vendors setting up. I very much appreciated her asking in advance. As to the flexibilty, they have a table in the entry way that brides typically put their placecards on, Maria suggested that and I thought it was a good idea. We had paid for a placecard table arrangement from our florist, but Maria said she had :nowhere to put a small table lamp" that was on that table so that our flowers could go there. We decided on another set-up for the placecards, as we really wanted a beautiful arrangement to be at the table. I thought the response of 'nowhere to put the lamp' was a little inflexible considering the size of the home and the small size of the table lamp, as we always made a point to be considerate and ask her permission for anything that we wanted to do in advance to make sure she was okay with it. All and all, we loved RP and our wedding day couldn't have been more wonderful with the beautiful location and facilities.

While the venue is beautiful, and we got some great pictures, we were disappointed about a number of issues. Maria, as many reviews had warned me, is not the most flexible of people. Initially, we really liked her and she seemed sweet, but as the wedding day grew near, her likability diminished-- and it's not fun dealing with a cranky person when you're a bride trying to plan your day. Maria often takens a while to answer phone calls/emails. After paying $800 to have access to the Carriage House on the day of the wedding (since the "bridal suite" she has is tiny and incredibly hot), she would not allow us to move the full-length mirror into the house. Also, the Carriage House was absolutely infested with bugs! Stink bugs, crickets, spiders-- both dead and alive. She came in on the day of the wedding when my bridesmaids and I were dodging the creatures trying to get ready, and swept, after my event coordinator had asked her to do so, but after the fact, she emailed me claiming that it's only natural to have bugs during the summer days. On the day of our wedding, she would not allow a funeral-parlor-looking lamp to be moved off of a table so that a flower display could be placed there. Also, Maria had never received our final payment, which we didn't find out from her until 2 days before our wedding. Both my DJ and event coordinator notified me that Maria had been rude to them as well.
There were a number of flies that made their way into the atrium that night, sadly. Despite our requests to have the AC on full-blast (it was a very hot July day), the conservatory was still very hot and muggy. Maria's entire family helped themselves to our food. Although we picked the less-buggy back garden, insects were still a major annoyance. The conservatory is also not very DJ-friendly, as there are only outlets on one side of the room. The price of Raspberry Plain is costly, and since it only includes having access to a garden and the mansion on the day of the wedding, I'd definitely suggest "shopping around" much more than we did before deciding on this venue.

My husband and I fell in love with Raspberry Plain when we visited. The garden area was the perfect site for our ceremony. The conservatory, with floor-to-ceiling windows, was also the perfect space for our reception. Our guests were in awe the entire time. They loved everything RP had to offer. Maria, the owner, was also great. She helped ensure that things ran smoothly. This is the perfect venue if you want both indoor and outdoor space (with a great view). The only setback about a summer wedding at RP is that the flowers in the garden are no longer in bloom and you have to be prepared to buy citronella candles in case the insects come out. Otherwise, we were very happy with our choice.

Raspberry Plain was a beautiful place for our wedding and reception; it was exactly what I always envisioned for our special day. Maria was so helpful from the day we first toured the venue all the way through our wedding day. She helped to make our day flawless from working with the different vendors to making sure the venue was spotless. Maria was very responsive and was able to provide advice on all aspects of our day. I would highly reccommend Raspberry Plain!
