Potcheen played at our wedding, traveling all the way to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains in California to be there. We had a mountain theme for the wedding, so I was looking for some classy Irish/folk tunes for the ceremony and outdoor cocktail hour, with some upbeat music suitable for dancing at the reception. They had two members of the band play acoustic guitar and fiddle outdoors during our ceremony - a beautiful line up of jigs and reels, along with the Pachelbel Canon as per our request. It was classy and suitable for the outdoor mountain ceremony we had. We then had an outdoor cocktail hour, and the guitarist and fiddle player kept up the beautiful music throughout.

At dinner, they alternated between playing soft mood music and putting on a CD of tunes to keep the atmosphere while we were letting everyone finish up. Friends kept asking if we had picked out the music on the CD because they wanted to know the names of the tunes - but no, it was all the band. Finally, after cake, Potcheen played an awesome, lively line-up that got everyone out on the floor and dancing. Potcheen’s toe-tapping energy and exuberance eventually got to even them and everyone ended up on the dance floor.

Potcheen is a very versatile group with a library that ranges from bluegrass, Celtic rock/punk, country, cajun, rock, and of course their own original tunes. We told them which songs we liked and ones we didn’t want played ahead of time, and they managed to arrange them into a sensible musical act that built up to a high-energy celtic party.

Christian, the leader, made a huge effort to be there for us and he deserves a special thanks. Despite having logistical problems that lesser bands might have used as an excuse to cancel on us, Potcheen worked through them and made it work. Overall, the music was great - classy and fun - and the guests loved it. Couldn’t have had a better musical act for our wedding!
