HORRIBLE!! Alvin is nice, but he is talent-less and a habitual liar or either plain incompetent. Not only was he continuously late for deadlines, he takes on too many clients and does not have the staff, or talent or organization to deliver. My sister's dress was not ready until the day of the wedding, after having Alvin keep her coming to his shop repeatedly promising she could pick it up. When I say shop, I mean home. He is so "proud" of his shoe-box home, that he loves for people to keep coming there over and over. He fabricates intricate stories as to why he hasn't delivered a finished product. Instead of just apologizing and taking the high road, he insults your intelligence with ridiculous lies. Alvin needs to really work on not only his craft, but also his social skills. Please be advised and save your money because he is also way more expensive and the quality of his work was abysmal. My mother's dress that looked like a shapeless Heafty bag (his design) unraveled on the dance floor. The threading at the hymn was nearly gone. We were mortified. I witnessed a client inform Alvin that the dress he ordered for her was not the dress she instructed him to order. Instead of saying, "Oh, I'm sorry, let me fix this", he debated her and insulted her intelligence and never once apologized. Oh, he was polite, but he still doesn't take responsibility or offer any concessions for his mistakes.

I contracted Alvin several months before my daughters wedding. We discussed a dress that actually he designed and sold me on. As the weeks got closer to the wedding my dress was not making any progress. I expressed my concerns and he assured me over and over again. As it turns out he did not provide me with a dress until 3pm the day of my daughters wedding. It was not at all what we had discussed such as draping, slit ect. and he offered no apology or explanation. Although I paid him in full he should not have taken it as he did not provide the service he had promised.

Alvin is the best! I got my bridesmaids dresses from him and he did an AMAZING job altering my wedding gown. I thought I had the perfect dress for me but he made it even better!! He was a delight to work with and I highly recommend him! You won't find anyone else in DC who is really willing to work to make your dress perfect!

I previously took my gown to another tailor for several alterations, but even after the final fitting, I felt something was "off." Alvin did an amazing job under an extreme time crunch, and even fixed some things the other tailor (very highly reviewed in the DC area, by the way), had said were impossible to correct. Since he is an actual designer, he has a great eye and is extremely skilled with clothes. In addition, he is SO nice to work with. And affordable, too. I would highly recommend him.

They have an amazing collection of bridal wear. It was difficult to make my choice but I ended up getting an absolutely gorgeous satin white gown and I absolutely loved it. It looked awesome on me and I got many compliments. Thanks to New Couture!
