Lakes Cakes was extremely professional to work with. The owners, Heidi & Greg, pay special attention to the details and treat your event with importance. For instance, when I went to sample the cakes at their home/office, Heidi brought a wonderful spread out on her personal china. This service far exceeded anywhere else I visited and was what made me choose Lakes Cakes. It also didn't hurt that the cakes are delicious :)
I only deducted stars because they were late in arriving to the wedding. However, there was terrible traffic & construction that day and nearly all of our vendors (and guests!) were late. Therefore, I do not think that it is an issue.
I highly recommend Lakes Cakes for the personalized service, beautiful designs and tasty cakes.

Before selecting a cake vendor, I looked at pretty much all the vendors in our price point in metro detroit and I have to say, Lakes Cakes, tasted the best and I think was a great deal for what we got. Being foodies, we were very particular about the taste of the cake, and Heidi and Gregory's was the best, moist enough and tasted homemade.
When I called to set up the appointment, I mentioned we'd like almond cake, and although almond cake isn't apart of her regular cakes, she made some for us. *Note: The almond cake was a huge hit at the wedding. When we went to taste the cakes, Heidi had a plethora of choices separated by cake type and filling, so we could mix and match and come up with our own creation. We loved that we could have different flavors for different tiers of the cake. Also the cost of adding fresh fruit was minimal compared to other cake vendors. We also really liked how each tier had 3 layers of filling (something we only saw at one other vendor).
Everything turned out great, nothing went wrong, the cake was displayed beautifully. I have recommended them to all my many engaged friends.

Heidi was great to work with. She is an amazing artist and baker! She adapted our wedding invitation design into a beautiful cake design exactly as we explained to her. The only problem was that the cake was still being set up as guests came into the hall and that the decorative metal cake stand rental we discussed had not been used. I was delighted with the cake design overall and the amount of cake was very generous.

Lakes Cakes was the best cake that we have ever had in a long time. We had been on 5 cake tasting's and they were the one that we were like WOW. We loved them and my husband can't stop talking about our wedding cake. We were very much satisfied as well as our wedding guest

Lakes Cakes was amazing to work with and my husband and I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who needs any bakery item. I gave them a 4/5 for professionalism because they do not have a store front to travel to. We had to do our taste testing at their home, which turned out just fine and she was very professional at her home, but a store front would provide a better sense of security for clients. All in all, they were amazing to work with, professional, very well priced and our guests LOVED their cake!

Lakes Cakes made us four kinds of VEGAN CUPCAKES! It was difficult to find a baker in our area who would cater to our needs. Heidi at Lakes Cakes was super knowledgable about our alternative diet. Our cakes were SO SO delicious. I'm looking forward to our free anniversary cake!

The service was excellent. Heide took great care of us and provided us with a beautiful cake. We did order a Groom's cake that was not laid out at our reception, but i think this was the hall's fault. Otherwise, we got a lot of compliments on our cake - we designed it from the pictures we saw in her book - she did awesome!

We were provided with a wonderful sampling of all of the flavors of cake. MANY different options. We gave a picture as a suggestion of the decoration we were thinking of; if you have a specific idea of what you'd like to see I'd highly reccomend overcommunicating that. Cake turned out delicious!

Heidi & Lakes Cakes exceeded our expectations for our wedding cake vendor. Beginning with the best cake tasting a couple could ask for, we were overwhelmed with the choices of cakes & buttercreams/mousses. All other vendors couldn't match up in comparison... Leading up to the wedding, we changed our desires in style, and Heidi adapted without incident to deliver a cake exactly to our expectations. We were extremely happy with the high quality of cake for the price (below many competitors), and we are equally excited about our one year anniversary "mini"-cake included in the price... We would recommend Lakes Cakes to anyone getting married in/near Detroit, Michigan.

Heidi at Lakes Cakes was amazing to work with. As I was planning my wedding from out of town, everything was basically done over email. I provided her with pictures of what I liked and she made exactly what I wanted! Also, we required a partially gluten-free cake which most vendors do not do. Heidi was able to accomodate this with no problem at all, designing a beautiful 5-tiered cake. The cake was absolutely gorgeous - and delicious! We are already looking forward to our anniversary cake. Thanks Heidi!!

Heidi was truly amazing and very proffessional. Our wedding cake was more than what we could have asked for. We had an idea of the cake we wanted for our day, she ran with it and created a work of art. We felt bad for cutting into it! Lakes Cakes were professional from the very first tasting until the actual cake delivery! Our wedding date was 7/17/09 and it is now almost 3 weeks since that day and people are still raving about the deliciousness of our cake! It was very beautiful and most importantly fresh and tasty!
