Jeff is such a talented photographer. We really enjoyed working with him. He makes you feel very comfortable in front of the camera, and his style is very discreet, and non-obtrusive. I would highly recommend him to any bride.

When I first talked to Jeff Lau we spent about an hour on the phone. We talked about the expected things that brides and photographers need to talk about but our conversation soon became a test of whether we would be a good fit. This is important when you search and book a photographer - he has to know how you feel about being in front of the camera, what kind of "feel" you want to capture in your photos, and your *gasp* "expectations" of him/her and their art. Some photographers get insulted if you hand them a list of shots they "need" to take of your wedding while some appreciate direction. They ARE artists after all and for me I wanted to find the right artistic expression of my wedding and I found that in Jeff just by talking to him that first night. Jeff shoots photo journalistic style which was a major criteria of mine when I began my search. I explained to Jeff the despair I had for not being able to find a photographer in my home state and hence having to look in a bigger metrop such as NYC. Jeff told me about the realities of photography, good and bad, so that I would be better informed about booking a photographer. Very helpful information that all brides need to be aware of. His professionalism, attitude, personality, and creativity really came through in that first phone encounter and I knew that I had to book him for our wedding.
On the day of the wedding he worked hard, was calm and collected, and seemed to be in five places all at once trying to capture what he promised - candid, riveting, emotional, and delightful images of the happiest day of my life.

Jeff Lau is definitely a talented photographer. We enjoyed seeing our pictures, especially the candid ones. However, we were disappointed in the lack of portraits that he took. The few portraits that he did take were average if not worse. The group shots were cringe-worthy. My uncles faces were blocked by others in the group. I would think that a photographer should at the very least make sure everyone in a group shot can be seen. I'd recommend Jeff if you are looking for someone to take excellent candid shots. However, get a backup portrait photographer if you do use Jeff. It will save you much disappointment. Finally, Jeff is terrible at maintaining reasonable contact with his clients. In our experience, he was not reachable until right before the wedding. It left us on edge. Expect your photos at least 2 months after your wedding. Because he is talented, he is also very busy and may not prioritize you in his work.
