Like another poster, our wedding photographer was the most important vendor to us. We really lucked out with Jack Looney. I would have written a glowing review even before we got our pictures back, he was so easy to work with and professional. From our first meeting, he showed how clearly dedicated to quality photography and documenting our wedding the way we wanted was. We met with him several days before the wedding and he offered us great photography ideas that we hadn't thought of, and was even willing to accommodate taking pictures with our dog (sadly it didn't work out to bring her! We couldn't figure out a way to get her to UVa and have everyone stay clear!). At the wedding itself, Jack and his assistant were really unobtrusive and we have so many pictures that we weren't even aware that he took. All the pictures are amazing and we can't wait to start framing them. The turn around time was quick from wedding to proofs and we had them in time to share with our families at Thanksgiving. We highly recommend him!

I don't have to gush about the quality of Jack's photographs, because the nice thing about picking a photographer is you can see their work! Check out his blog, his work is stunning!! But, that being said, Jack took hundreds of beautiful portraits, captured wonderful intimate moments, and hysterical dance shots that truly capture the spirit of the day (and make me look better than I ever had:)) . He is an absolute professional, everything was straightforward and as originally discussed. He is WONDERFUL to work with, so personable and kind, we loved having him at our wedding! And, the turnaround on your photos is shockingly quick (we had them all when we got back from our honeymoon!). Also, he can set up a photo booth for you to get funny photos of all your guests, so fun! Highly recommend!

My husband and I both felt that photography was one of the most important decisions we would make during the wedding planning process. From the very first time we spoke with Jack Looney, we knew we would be in good hands. His pricing was clear, his manner was relaxed and personable, and he we was focused on making sure he knew exactly what we were looking for in terms of style and specific shots.

After the wedding, we remarked at how great Jack was at being present but not intrusive. In fact, there were many times that I didn't even know he was capturing a moment.

We received our pictures promptly after the wedding and they are AMAZING. We've received a ton of compliments already, and we honestly couldn't have asked for anything more.

Choosing Jack Looney as our photographer was one the best decisions we made for our wedding day. From the beginning, Jack put our minds as ease. He was consistently easy going and a pleasure to work with. He was always available to answer questions and accommodate requests. He was well organized, prompt, meticulous and thorough.

Apart from his business style, Jack is also just a cool guy. He is relaxed, easy going and fun to work with. At the wedding, he was always around, and yet we never felt that he was in the way or taking time away from the celebration.

His photographs are timeless and natural. He is creative and yet classic. We will cherish our photos forever and are very thankful to Jack for his professionalism and his beautiful work.

I heard about Jack from several friends in Charlottesville, one of whom is a wedding coordinator in the area. She said that he was an absolute joy to work with - laid back, friendly and has a great sense of humor - and that his work is the most beautiful of the Charlottesville photographers. She was absolutely correct.

Jack is generous with his time. He spent several hours with us for a gorgeous engagement shoot, for which he did not charge us. He also spent several extra hours with us on the day of the wedding, capturing our first look, for only a very minimal fee.

Jack is incredibly considerate and attentive. Whenever we were with him, we felt like his entire focus was on documenting our event and capturing beautiful, creative images. He has an artistic eye and is wonderfully creative with his use of lenses, colors and backgrounds. We feel like we could submit some of our photos to a photo contest and win.

Jack is also a fantastic videographer. He captured all of our big moments (as well as the small ones!) on tape. We were able to easily splice together the video segments into both ceremony and reception videos. You won't even have to get a videographer! Plus he did all of this for us at no extra cost.

More importantly, we would love to grab a drink with Jack in the future. We liked him that much. He's friendly, laughs easily, easy-going and kind. It was a joy to have him at our wedding. We felt like we would have wanted to invite him even if he wasn't our photographer.

When my husband Adam and I were searching for photographers, we came across a wedding album by Jack Looney Photography at Veritas Vineyards, where we ended up getting married. We were lucky since we got engaged 17 months before our wedding day after dating 8 years, so we really had our pick of any photographer. Since we were so in love with the album we saw at Veritas, we knew that we had to jump at the opportunity and contact Jack immediately. Our first meeting with Jack, he took the time to listen to all our special photo requests and provided us some vendor recommendations, which were also all great recommendations. We were so lucky that Jack had our wedding weekend available. Jack also photographed our engagement and my bridal pictures. I know Adam and I originally felt awkward about having to "pose" for pictures, but Jack always made us feel really comfortable. It was like friends hanging out, while snapping some pictures on the side. Having Jack as a photographer put both Adam and I at ease, and made the photography sessions extremely relaxed and most of all, fun. If you are looking for a photographer that puts you at ease, Jack is your guy. As a photographer the real talent is capturing those sweet tender moments that you may not necessarily notice yourself. Looking back at all the pictures, Jack definitely captures all those sweet and tender moments. You will not go wrong with choosing Jack as your photographer. He is the best!! . Jack is extremely friendly and genuinely cares about his clients. I cannot say enough great things about Jack and all the photos. The pictures were one word SPECTACULAR.

First: he was incredibly pleasant to work with throughout the planning process, from our first phone call to our engagement shoot to our wedding day. He always responded quickly to phone calls and emails, and he offered us lots of really good wedding advice and vendor suggestions. He is simply a truly kind, easy-going, and professional individual.

For both our engagement shoot and the wedding day, he made my husband and I feel very comfortable, was totally open to trying our ideas for the types of shots we wanted, had great ideas for shots himself, and also gave us gentle guidance for achieving the best images.

Above all, Jack is professional, discreet, and unbelievably nice. After the wedding, our bridal party, families, and many of our guests even commented on how lovely he was.

Now, the images. In a word: perfect. The photos that we got from both our engagement shoot and our wedding are beyond stunning - artfully shot, romantic, and incredibly flattering. Jack managed to capture all the small, intimate moments details and also get grand and dramatic overall pictures of the events of the evening. And every photo is just beautifully shot.

He is a true gem, and I would recommend him to anyone planning a wedding in the Charlottesville area!

Jack & his wonderful assistant were simply perfect! They arrived, well-prepared and flexible. They guided two separate groups (Groom's party & Bride's Party) through 3 hours of pictures that felt natural & exciting at the same time. The time flew by and we were having a lot of fun. The Ceremony pictures were amazing and having two good photogs made for a lot of unique and amazing shots to choose from. They stayed longer than the time we agreed and hosted a hilarious photo booth to boot! They captured everything that was unique and special about OUR friends, family the setting and each other. There were no classic poses or staid, staged pictures. Every shot was live and true to who were are and the unique meaning of our day for us and for our guests. When Jack took my wife's Jimmy Choo shoes off for their own "photo shoot" I knew he "got her" in a way that I could never have requested. :) I can't recommend Jack any higher.

Jack was wonderful to work with. Easy going and made us feel very comfortable. His pictures are fantastic. He captured our wedding day beautifully. We couldn't have asked for a better photographer. I would definitley recommend him.

Jack met my daughter Emily Hamilton a few years ago when his son attended the preschool where she worked. When Emily and Jason Wavell began planning their wedding, Jack was the ONLY photographer Emily wanted to consult.
Emily and I met with Jack and effortlessly planned engagement and complete wedding day picutres. Jack presented so many options at a great price. This was such an important part of the wedding planning to be set so well and so early. He is also well-known and highly-respected in the "event community."
Jack spent a day at Aspian Lawn (family farm and sight of the reception) in October 2011, resulting in beautiful engagement pictures of Emily and Jason in different scenes and with their dogs!
Jack was in constant contact with Emily as the wedding day grew closer. On the day of the wedding, Jack and his asst. Ashely were on the scene as Emily, Jason, and the wedding party prepared for the day. Pictures were taken from early in the morning until very late that night. Jack and Ashley captured so many special moments in spectacular ways.
I cannot say enough about the results. Pictures include before the wedding-home and church, the wedding, after the wedding-church, and the reception including a photobooth.
Emily and Jason and their families enjoy and will cherish the memories forever through Jack Looney Photography.

I just received my photos from Jack Looney and they took my breath away. They are absolutely beautiful. He captured every moment of the event. Truly beyond anything I could even imagine. During the event (which is as important as the finished product), Jack was calm and kind and kept me feeling at ease. He was never intrusive and somehow captured special moments when we didn't even know he was there. AMAZING!

I cannot say enough amazing things about Jack Looney! He was absolutely wonderful to work with and his services were a great value (especially compared to his competition in Charlottesville). He threw in a free engagement session and photo booth and includes a professional second photographer in his price. Not to mention, his photography is absolutely beautiful! Jack was great to work with. He and his second shooter were able to capture all the wonderful moments of our wedding without being intrusive to our guests.

We are both a bit camera shy but Jack helped ease our nerves. He helped us feel comfortable in front of the camera with a short engagement session a few months before the wedding. This helped us get to know him and for him to know us a little better. Also, the day of the wedding, he just kept telling us to be ourselves and directed us just enough look this way or that for good angles.

We also loved how quickly Jack was able to edit and print our photos! We received hi-res images and 4x6 prints from Jack just a couple weeks after returning from our honeymoon. It's also great that Jack gave us all the rights to the photos to reprint however we wanted.

Jack Looney was our wedding photographer, and my husband and I found him to be BRILLIANTLY TALENTED and very WARM!

His photos are so beautiful, flattering, and professional, and it is easy to see how so many of his photos have made magazines. His shots are incredible - he captured the emotion of our day and intimate expressions of family and friends, as well as getting gorgeous panoramic shots of our wedding ceremony against the backdrop of the vineyard and Blue Ridge Mountains, and in the ballroom. His playing with color was absolutely amazing - he gave us photos in regular color, black & white, sepia, and then tones in between I don't even know the name for. With Jack you get both quality and quantity - He took thousands of photos - everything we wanted was captured on film plus extra shots beyond our imagination. For example, he shot our rings in so many clever ways - placed on a curly vineyard vine, on a pumpkin, on logs, on the handlebars of our motorcycle cake topper - and more.

We loved his mainly photojournalistic style (capturing the wedding candidly as it unfolds), combined with a few requested posed shots.

While I was getting ready, I was a bit anxious about everything going as planned, and having Jack there with his professionalism and warm manor was really reassuring, calming, and fun. Since our wedding was in the evening, and there wouldn't be much light after the outdoor ceremony, Jack had suggested that my husband and I do a "first site" with each other and the bridal party in advance of the ceremony, so we had planned the schedule as such. Jack drove me up in his car, and his 2nd shooter Ryan took my husband up. He found such a perfect spot in the vineyard for that very special moment where my husband first saw me and me him - and he was able to stand back in a private way while capturing the looks on our faces that we now have for a lifetime. He also took stunning shots of my husband dipping me in his arms. My bridal party commented on how the shots he took of all of us in the vineyard (the bridal party came out after our first site) were the most fun wedding photography they have ever experienced. Jack helped us improvise photos of us with the groomsmen cigars, and got a ton of both funny and serious shots.

Second shooter Ryan was also amazing - very professional and got some really beautiful shots.
Jack truly went above and beyond. He provided a photo booth as well - which our guests loved! Kids and adults alike had so much fun trying on the feather boas, big glasses, wigs, and more that he provided. As a special request, since we couldn't afford a videographer, he managed to capture several important events such as our first dances on video.

I really can't say enough great things about him - we are just so happy he was available on our date! We had interviewed about 12 of the top photographers in the Charlottesville area before picking him, and we are so glad we did.

Best decision we made. No contest. One thing a lot of people don't think about when picking your wedding photographer--personality! It is SO important that they are somebody you want around the whole time on your big day! From the first moment we sat down with Jack, we were convinced he was it for us. Once you meet him you will understand---he just made us feel so comfortable--we knew he had everything under control. He was awesome!!! His photographs are beyond stunning--I feel like I am reliving that day every time I look back through my album! He made us so comfortable, and was so good at reading where to be--and letting us relax and forget we were being photographed. I am SO glad we got him--best decision ever :)

Hiring Jack was one of the first--and best--decisions I ever made during our wedding planning process. His warm, competent, calm demeanor makes him one of my favorite people to be around--and my favorite wedding vendor!

I was a very detail-oriented and busy bride. Upon meeting Jack for the first time, he immediately put my now-husband and me at ease. He's a professional with a kind heart. He hears your concerns/dreams and writes them into a custom photo plan. I felt totally taken care of and heard. Jack put me at peace.

My favorite aspect of Jack's work is the detail. He sees beauty in the small things and goes out of his way to showcase them. We took some engagement pictures in Alderman Library at UVa and Jack's perspective and vision for the shoot really brought out the best in us. I was wow'ed from start to finish.

Finally, I will say Jack is a good friend to his clients. The day of my bridal portraits was a tough day for a variety of reasons, but as soon as Jack arrived, he comforted me, made me feel like a bride and led me towards a happy bridal portrait shoot. I remember feeling very uplifted that day, especially by Jack and his kind heart.

If you're looking for a photographer who sees the best is his brides and the best details in every photograph, you should hire Jack. I can't recommend him enough.
