Derek was great! he's also a dance instructor, so he even worked in a lesson before the wedding! we came in from out of town, and he worked around our schedule. He had great suggestions on music selections and was able to get some hard to find family favorites. he was very professional and made the atmosphere very classy when we wanted, then got everyone to dance and get a little silly when we wanted. He was able to be very flexible as our ceremony ran late, and the crowd had a mind of its own. all of his equipment is great, the quality of the music was perfect, not so loud to hurt people's ears, but loud enough even the grandparents could hear the toasts. I would absolutely recommend him especially for an outdoor wedding where things could have gone wrong and he made them perfect.

Matt Steffanina is Derek's apprentice, and we had Matt DJ at our wedding. He was awesome. We told him exactly what we liked and disliked, and Matt executed everything perfectly. The sound level was perfect, Matt's announcements were perfect, and the music kept everyone going all night. Would totally recommend Matt!!

Derek was great to work with. We met with him once in Charlottesville and hired him on the spot. Later on, closer to the wedding, we had a call with him to discuss details. And then he took it from there! He provided mics and speakers for our outdoor ceremony, let me choose our dinner music and then did his thing for dancing and party time! We wanted to hear zero cheesy wedding songs (YMCA, Brickhouse, We are Family, etc) and he did a great mix of fun oldies, Top 40, and mid-90s for us (we wanted it to feel a little like a 7th grade dance, but amped up). Everyone had a great time and loved the music! Derek is professional and was a pleasure to work with. Zero worries when it came to our awesome DJ!

Derek was the best DJ we could have asked for. EVERYONE at the wedding reception was dancing at one point, and the dance floor was never empty. He kept the reception moving at the perfect pace and was an effective but unobtrusive emcee for the event. We left most of the music selection up to him, and he did not disappoint! It was the perfect mix of all our favorite party music. Derek also is a professional ballroom dance instructor, and taught us our first dance. He made it so easy and fun to learn! We would highly recommend Derek to anyone needing DJ services or dance lessons!

We had heard great things about Derek and he did not disappoint. He is a true professional. He spent several hours with us a month before the wedding going over the music we wanted and the flow of the reception. He is very organized and the events at the reception transitioned very smoothly. The dance floor was crowded from the first dance through the last dance. We have been to many weddings where the DJ was on the "cheesey" side, but not Derek - he is a class act!

DJ Derek was great! He met with us an hour months before the wedding to discuss our taste in music and provided us with a list of ideas since we were stuck on what we wanted to dance to. He was extremeley organized and was flexible with our reception location. We were not sure where the cocktail hour was going to be held and he said that was no problem which was great. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, he is very classy, not cheasy at all. The music was great and everyone had a great time dancing. Would definitely recommend Derek for any event.

We absolutely loved having Derek as our DJ. We spoke with him about a week prior to our wedding to go over how the evening would flow and our play lists. Everything went so smoothly and without a hitch - he didn't miss a beat. He knew what to play when and had great transitions so nobody wanted to leave the dance floor! I also liked how the music was set at the right volume all night - this is especially important during dinner since I've been to weddings where you can't have decent conversations because the DJ is blasting out your ears. He was a pleasure to work with and very professional. We would highly recommend him to anyone getting married in the Charlottesville area.

Derek was a pleasure to work with. It was his first time at our reception site and the set up is spread out a little. He placed speakers throughout the venue. The sound was perfect on the dance floor and during dinner. We were surprised at how many of guests danced the night away. Thanks Derek! He was very receptive to the guests and played a great selection of songs. We met with Derek about a month before the wedding. He helped us develop a time line for the evening. The night went so smoothly. He even arranged an impromptu send us for us. Our guests lined the walkway out and blew bubbles. This was not planned, but Derek had it set up in minutes with the bubbles we couldn't use after the ceremony because of the rain. Our send off was one of the most memorable times of the day.
Derek came to our house 2 times before the wedding night and taught us our first dance. My husband and I were not dancers and were a little nervous. Derek made us feel comfortable dancing and taught us a few fun moves. We enjoy dancing now.
I would highly recommend Derek to anyone planning a wedding in the Charlottesville area.

We were absolutely thrilled to work with Derek. Derek is a terrific emcee and very professional; he keeps the evening moving without being overbearing. We spoke with Derek a week or two before the wedding to give him our "must play" and "do not play" songs as well as other information about the wedding party. He definitely honored our requests and created an excellent playlist. During the wedding, we had some people come up to us and said goodbye early in the night and told us they were heading home, but then I'd still see them there 45 minutes later! We couldn't even pull ourselves away from the dance floor! Derek was also wonderful at reading the crowd - he played songs everyone knew early on to get people out on the dance floor.
Further, Derek is also a dance instructor and he taught us to dance as well as gave us a choreographed first dance and father daughter dance. This really made the dances special, rather than just the usual swaying back and forth. Derek can also provide sound amplification of the vows at the ceremony so that older guests and people in the back can here. We met with some other DJs who could not do this. We can't recommend Derek highly enough. He was truly an exceptional vendor to work with.
