I ordered the fabric for my wedding dress and tie for my fiance from Conscious Elegance and they came very quickly and are just AMAZING! The fabric is SO SO SO beautiful. It has a lovely texture, a beautiful sheen and a lovely drape. It is just perfect.

Eco-Conscious Hollywood Glamour Wedding Dress
This might be a bit of an juxtaposition of ideas, but I totally think that being environmentally conscious does not mean you have to give up style!!

Originally I had planned on sewing my own wedding dress (I know crazy me!) and wanted something with quality fabric that was also eco-conscious. I contacted Lori at Conscious Elegance and she was so excited about me sewing my dress and sent some fabric samples my way. But after realizing I wouldn't have time to sew I ventured into a couple of bridal shops to try on something ready made and was horrified. My options were to spend $2000+ for something of quality, or be satisfied with a nasty polyester dress for $500. So my lovely sister offered to make the dress for me. Now this is 5 weeks before the wedding!! I called Lori again to see if she could send out the fabric ASAP and she did her best. What with international shipping and border clearance it took a week. But it was enough time for my sister to work her magic. It arrived well packaged and as Lori had shipped the fabric rolled (no folds) and pre-shrunk my sister could start cutting immediately.

About the hemp/silk fabric - the best way to describe the sheen is that of the luster of a pearl. It's not that glaring shine that polyester has.
Also my sister said it was lovely to work with as it has enough texture so it wasn't slippery (those sewing buffs will know what that means)
The weight was perfect as it had enough weight to hang beautifully and was not too stiff. It does wrinkle a bit though. I had to careful when sitting.

Overall it turned out absolutely gorgeous and everyone said that we did look like 1940's movie stars, which what we were going for.

Thanks again to Lori for providing advice, sending out samples, and providing overall great service and also the perfect fabric for the perfect dress.

Great, efficient and personal service from Lori at Conscious Elegance who was more than helpful on the phone and via e-mail. I bought great quality bamboo fabric for a wedding dress that was absolutely perfect and of much better quality than most I had samples of. I live in the UK and Lori made the distance between me and the USA of no object. Highly recommended company to deal with!

I have been researching ethical and sustainable fabrics for the past 3 years and it is a complete minefield, but after much research I finally found a fantastic company who could supply me with beautiful cut lengths of stunning silk, hemp and other ethically and sustainably sourced fabrics for my collection. I cannot thank Lori and Concious Elegance enough for what they have done for me. Their selection, professionalism, responsiveness and quality of service is above what I have ever received from any fabric retailer. Even an 8 hour time difference and few thousand miles didn't deter them from ensuring I received exactly the fabric I needed at the right time at the right price. Lori kept in regular touch via email, I knew I could contact her any time and receive a timely response. She even completed all the payment transactions via telephone from her end. I am only sad that we may never get to meet, but rest assured if I am ever in that part of the world I will be knocking on her door to thank her in person.

Where do I begin? Lori is a pleasure & delight to have met, and I was really happy with the result. As well as green credentials, she listened to my thoughts, and helped make the idea of a dress in my head into a reality. She was flexible, friendly and approachable - and if possible, I think my parents loved her even more than I did (even when she was gently talking them round to my idea of a dress rather than theirs!). If you want a unique, lovingly crafted gown; without paying salon prices, then Lori is the woman for the job!
