My husband and I were married at Chase Court in December, 2011, and this venue is a great choice, especially for an intimate wedding. Though no longer the parish house of an Episcopal church, there is a definite feel of history and sacredness to it that makes it a good choice for interfaith couples who want more than a hotel wedding. The feel of the place, enhanced by it's gothic architecture, is just marvelous.
Despite what others here have said, we found owner David's "cut-to-the-chase" manner to be refreshing. He certainly knows weddings, and he helped us plan a wedding that was both beautiful and affordable. He tirelessly answered questions and offered advice, might as well have been our wedding planner, too! We were happy to have his involvement - we had a little less than three months to plan our wedding, and David's recommendations were invaluable in helping keep the decision-making process moving ahead briskly but while giving each decision careful consideration. We used several of his recommended local providers, all a short walk from Chase Court, such as the hotel (Hotel Brexton), wedding supper venue (The Brewer's Art), and even the salon (Zena's). Not having to drive anywhere made for much less stress than dealing with traffic and parking in the city on one's wedding day. David provided great service with style and high standards, and this was an important factor in our having a beautiful wedding that neither we nor our family and friends will ever forget. I'd much rather work with a venue owner on whose wisdom and taste I can depend than with someone without those qualities who tells their customers what they want to hear. So we say "Thanks David!"

Chase Court is perfect for small vintage weddings! I fell in love with the old gothic style of it immediately and it made our reception look magical! David was also a pleasure to work with. We had a special first dance that required quite a bit of room. He allowed us to visit a couple times to practice and figure out where the best dance spot would be.

To start, I would like to say that the review by MS Baltimore is baseless and shame on them for not having the integrity to post their real name, yet blab on about their father being the mayor once. Then to use racial intolerance as a sword to go after someone that does not deserve it shows the discredit you bring upon yourself at the expense of others.
Now about Chase Court. My husband and I pretty much had our pick of where we wanted to get married and we looked at roughly 20 locations before a close friend suggested that we take a look at Chase Court. This location is a hidden gem of tranquility in the middle of a bustling city. When my husband and I walked in for the first time and took in the ambiance and architecture, we were immediately sold. Then we met David, who is the owner and management of the venue. David is a no nonsense type of person. The venue is essentially his house as well so he is very passionate and critical of the premises and the people who he lets use it. David absolutely knows what he is doing and talking about when it comes to Chase Court. He makes no illusions and does not sugar-coat or kiss anyone's rear end. It is this attitude that often rubs people the wrong way but David is very respectful of everyone who respects him and his venue. He puts a ton of his own personal effort everyday into making Chase Court as personal, vibrant and exciting as it is. He is a blunt "get what you give" kinda guy, so if your feelings are hurt easily or you think that you should be sucked up to, then you should look somewhere else. As for us, we never had any issues with him. Granted my husband's personality is very similar to David's so that might have something to do with it. Although we felt that it was a bit pricey, the uniqueness was well worth it. We had our ceremony in the courtyard followed by the reception inside. It was warm and humid that day and we were admittedly hot. Being a historic location, there is only so much David can do about keeping it cool during the summer months so keep this in mind if you plan a summer wedding with a big hot dress! David was on hand throughout our wedding day and did his best to coordinate everyone so that things would run seamlessly. He even changed some things at the last moment because he saw something we didn't and although I noticed the change immediately, I recognized the value in what he did. We have not gotten our photography pictures back yet but I have no doubt that our choice of venue has made all the difference in the quality of the pictures. The gardens were perfect and everything was clean and well thought out. In the end, David can be a bit unusual but if you look past it and see his passion and genuine respect for those who are serious about using Chase Court, then you will be rewarded with a memorable and beautiful day.

We used Chase Court for our May wedding and I would absolutely recommend it. It is a beautiful venue - our ceremony was in the garden which was just gorgeous. The inside is equally charming and gave us just the right intimate feel for our smaller (75 ppl) wedding.
David was a huge help to me in the planning process - he has opinions as other reviewers have noted, but to me he was always professional and I respected the points he made. His website was a godsend. I planned my wedding in under 5 months using all vendors he'd recommended. Every single one was just terrific. With his pointers and the website - I had no need for a wedding planner for something of the size we wanted and was able to pull everything together without it impacting my crazy work schedule. We had a cocktail-style reception - no assigned tables, more smaller tables than larger ones, and a lot of mingling. Also - not a large dance floor. The main ballroom worked perfectly for us for this type of party - however I could see that it would be crowded for a larger wedding/more formal setup. My only challenge was timing on getting into the venue and bridal room early. We opted to do photos ahead of time on recommendation of our photographer. We hoped to get in 2 hours ahead of the ceremony rather than 1 hour. David let us come in 90 minutes ahead not 2 hours. Given that the venue was being set up for our event, that didn't make sense to me but we were able to make everything work. Our guests raved about the beauty of the venue and it was absolutely the feel we wanted. Given it's charm and beauty and the wealth of resources that David provided, I'd definitely recommend Chase Court for a great wedding site.

My husband and I wanted a place walking distance from the hotel and created a special ambiance. I loved the fact that I could have as much variety with the service instead of a fixed dinner package. At Chase Court I really felt my wedding was one-of-a-kind.
On a side note I do agree with the other comments on this site in that the owner is a bit pushy. At the time it seemed that it was from knowing what he was doing, but in retrospect, I think that he's just highly opinionated. He's also highly protective of his lovely properity, which is understandable.

The setting is beautiful at Chase Court, but the manager is nasty, condescending, and unprofessional. He knows we feel this way about him. I just hope he changes his demeanor for the next wedding held there. I would not recommend the place--simply because of him.

The garden was beauitful and provided the right touch to my wedding. The venue on a whole was the perfect size, atmosphere and price.

We wholeheartedly agree with the review made by other couples on this site. The venue is absolutely GORGEOUS! It complimented us as a couple and our family and friends loved it! The manager does a wonderful job maintaining the site, which is set in Mount Vernon (an LGBT-friendly neighborhood). In fact, Chase Court's website is the only website we found that actually featured other LGBT couples.
The manager of chase court, David, is not the type of venue manager that is hands-off. He is very much a part of the planning process. He was very kind at times, especially towards the beginning of the process when we were ironing out our guest list, giving us great advice. But that is something to know about him: he is going to offer advice and sometimes rather bluntly. In the moment, some of that advice can seem very pushy, yet it was our experience that if we wanted something different, he did relent. Still, in going with this venue, you do need to know that David will be very much a part of the experience and you should make sure you can work with him. Our true problem with this venue came with his flexibility with the actual day-of process. We had to cancel our DJ due to cost and while he has happy to accommodate us by letting us use his iPod hook-up it came at a cost of $200. Also, we were allowed into the venue three hours before our ceremony to decorate, but only allowed into the bridal suite an hour before the ceremony to get ready, an hour before the ceremony for two brides to get dressed and ready was not enough time. Again, he was happy to accommodate us for a fee of $300 per additional hour. This seemed a little outrageous to us since we were already going to be there during the set-up. Instead, we opted to get ready at home. The only other thing to consider with this venue was its location. The venue has done what it can to block out noise; however, due to traffic on St. Paul street, it can be hard to hear at times. My wife and I are teachers, and therefore know how to project; however, during the emotional times, it was hard to compete with a city bus (even at 6:45 on a Saturday evening). For the most part, guests were able to hear, but it is something to consider. Overall we were very pleased and can't even imagine getting married anywhere else. We recommend this venue, as long as you can match David's strong personality.

We loved having our wedding at Chase Court. We researched venues in DC, NC, and Baltimore, and once we found Chase Court our decision was made. It is in the middle of the city, but tucked away behind the church and the garden and feels so beautifully secluded. David, the owner, lives on the property and has lots of great advice to share. The floors were just refinished, and really add the overall beauty. We loved having the option of an indoor or outdoor ceremony depending on the weather. The room looks so pretty at night, especially if you have lots of candles!

Chase Court is a beautiful, intimate wedding venue in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore. Even though it is in the city, it feels intimate and secluded. The garden is beautiful and provided the perfect backdrop for our small (110 guests) wedding: flagstone, lots of trees and flowering plants, koi pond, and pergola. The indoor space is equally beautiful: dark wood trim, white walls, leaded glass windows.
When my beloved and I stepped into the space for the first time, after having looked at many other venues (both online and in person), we immediately turned to each other and said: "This is it! This space is perfect!" And I must say that, upon subsequent visits, leading up to and including our arrival on the big day, our opinion never wavered once. Chase Court really is the perfect location for any couple looking for an intimate, unique, and beautiful space to have their ceremony and/or reception. We held our ceremony in the garden on a beautiful October afternoon, and the reception in the hall immediately after. Guests raved about the space: its beauty, its coziness, its intimacy while not feeling cramped or crowded. Finally, I must mention that, as a gay male couple, we were somewhat anxious about how our vendors would relate to us, and we therefore selected very carefully who would be helping to make our special day happen. I cannot even begin to express how happy we felt having David Egan at Chase Court providing our venue. David was affirming, respectful, and very helpful to us throughout the entire process. He does have a list of approved vendors, and our choice of caterer (Atlantic Caterers) really was a godsend for us--the food and service were wonderful! To respond to other comments on this site: granted, David is particular about his space and is very clear about his boundaries regarding time, other vendors, and how the space is treated by everyone present on the day of the wedding. In all honesty, I cannot fault him for this, given that this is his livelihood and his home, as well (he resides above the venue). However, my husband and I found David to be respectful of our requests and flexible with what we wanted to accomplish on the day of our wedding. We found that, if we approached him respectfully and were flexible with him, we received the same in return. Overall, I could not recommend Chase Court more highly to any couple (gay or straight) who wishes to have a beautiful and unique venue in order to celebrate their special day.

Chase Court is located in downtown Baltimore however the venue is tucked away so that you don't feel as though you are in the city. Our ceremony was held in the garden which is beautiful and very intimate. We had about 115-120 guests at the wedding so the indoor and outdoor reception areas were perfect for people to roam around and mingle during the reception. It really is a beautiful place and we had lots of compliments from our wedding guests.

Chase Court is a beautiful venue. Just know what you are getting into in the fact that it is just the venue, you are responsible for the tables, chairs, caterer; but their website is incredibly informative.

I agree 100% with all that Cindy said and have talked to DOZENS of people who met with the gentleman who owns Chase Court and were very turned off by him. So much so to choose another venue. I must tell you that I WOULD choose Chase Court again because the venue is beautiful, though not terribly clean in the brides room or the wood floor on the day of my wedding. I heard nothing but compliments from my guests.
I will warn you that the owner is EXTREMELY opinionated (its MY wedding, not his and he needs constant reminders of this) and not at all flexible with times to rehearse, walk through or discuss flaws in his contract. He charges an exhorbitant amount for using one of his non-approved caterers but I had to as I could not afford/did not care for any of the ones on his list! If you do choose to have your wedding there, be aware that the beauty is worth it but as my wedding was on Friday evening at 6pm, my guests could hear NONE of the words we spoke! The videographer was also unable to catch it due to the sirens and helicopter flying overhead:( Still, I heard my husband and so did my wedding party and I honestly didn't care about anyone else! Biddle Street was my caterer and I LOVED them and the food got rave reviews! Feel free to email me for further info on them!

Chase Court is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL location! I could not have imagined a more perfect location for my wedding. I have given some low scores, but if I had to do it all over again, I would still choose Chase Court. The low scores are only because of the person its run by, he is quite quirky in a bad way. His email responsiveness is quite poor, requiring myself and my planner to send multiple emails and voicemails messages before getting a response on some fairly simple matters. His flexibility for scheduling walk-throughs and rehearsals is quite frustrating - I didn't even get the chance to do a walk-through bc he would only do it on a tuesday during business hours and my fiance and I can't get off work much less make my planner drive the 2 hours in the middle of her day! He said it wasn't his fault that we had waited so long to try and schedule it, but he would have been just as difficult months in advance. He insisted on some odd things, like running the rehearsal himself instead of my planner. He was also quite indignant with his opinions, such wanting the officiant to stand in an awkward position and telling me who I should and shouldn't invite. Maybe its just me, but when we're throwing thousands of dollars at someone, I expect to be accomodated within reason.
However, in the end, everything worked out just fine and I would still recommend the venue. Just be aware and make your plans way in advance.
