There cake was amazing. I'm not going to lie we paid a lot for the cake but it came out beautiful and she is a award winning baker and it is family owned.

I'm writing this for any Mother's of the Groom looking for rehearsal dinner cakes...
I ordered a beer stein cake several months ago to be made for my son's rehearsal dinner. To make sure the baker knew exactly what I wanted, I brought in a photo of the cake I wanted replicated along with the website address so Mario could take a closer look. When I went to pick up the cake this past Friday, they were still taking pictures of it, and when it was finally brought out, it was the most atrocious monstrosity I have ever seen. The beer emblem was simply piped on-I could have done a better job myself! and the beer stein basically looked like Oscar the Grouch's trash can. It weighed ten tons and they had no carrying box for me to bring to St. Pete. The platform he dumped on my lap in the car was sticky and I had to hold the cake myself while a friend drove to the restaurant. Later I found out that the red velvet cake I asked for, which is my son's favorite, was not red velvet at all...it was white or yellow cake dyed pink! The baker is incredibly rude and an utter ego maniac, and I feel like the $350 he charged me for this cake was a complete waste of money. The baker's response? "You can just leave the cake "...Over promise and barely deliver-that's what you get at Cakes Plus!

The cake looked so beautiful and the white chocolate seashells were a big hit with everyone!

Mario did an outstanding job on our wedding cakes! We had a traditional cake as well as a special Cincinnati Bengals grooms cake. He sat down with us at our consultation and drew out our ideas so we could see what the cakes would look like. Not only did they look fantastic but they tasted fantastic as well. Would surely recommend using cakes plus.

Mario did an amazing job on our wedding cake! We absolutely love the specialty pound cake and wanted to incorporate it into our wedding (we have been fans for years). Mario came up with a design that incorporated all our colors and the design from our invitations and stationary onto the cake. It looked amazing and tasted even better! Absoluety beautiful and DELICIOUS cake! We had a chocolate cake with a ganache filling. It was so incredibly moist. Guests raved about it. Mario was very helpful and responded quickly to my e-mails. Would highly recommend this company! ;)

We heard great reviews about this place. So we went in for a tasting and to meet with Nina. We were told by her that they could make anything we wanted in any flavor we wanted. She let us taste her "awarding winning cake" and that was it. She pressured into signing that day, with a promise that she could make us a cake in any flavor that we would love. We made numerous trips there to BUY her sample cakes to try to find one we were happy with. We wanted a simple marble cake with butter-creme icing. Very simple and elegant, no complicated design to it, we were told that she couldn't guarantee that if she made the cake as we requested that the frosting wouldn't run off. We took our design to multiple other places, and were told that it wouldn't be a problem and they would guarantee us a cake as requested. We unfortunately lost our deposit with Cakes Plus, but we very happy with the new vendor we found and had a beautiful cake for the wedding.

Let me tell you why we did NOT choose Cakes Plus for our cake. We had an unfavorable, alarming experience with Nina. She gave us about 4 types of cakes but only a small spoonful amount of each flavor. The bite size was about a quarter size wide and about 1.5 or 2 inches tall, with a small dallop of icing on top and a flat piece of fondant on top of the filling. So once you ate that, you had to really concentrate on the taste because it's not like you could try it again, as we were only each given a bite size. I am not sure how Nina thinks that this will win people over.

Next, she gave us a stack of bookmarks and we quickly bookmarked several pictures in her books. Then to our surprise, she pointed at 2 pictures and said "Pick one!" so this was her way of narrowing down our choices!! She was very serious, and it was like American Idol style judging of cake. So beware with Nina - she will want you to do an elimination round with those bookmarks - she seriously wants you nix one of the two, everytime you compare two, without even peeking at your other favorites. It's not an effective way, at least not for us. The tone was not good at all. We felt very much pressured to settle with. We also felt like we would need to stay strictly to a design that is already in the books, without changing it at all.

I made sure to alert Jennifer Payne at Clearwater Beach Hyatt since this is one of their preferred vendors. Jennifer told me that the best person to do the cake tasting at Cakes Plus is Mario, and judging from the reviews it does indeed look like Mario has all the customer service, skill, and finesse that Nina is lacking. However, we had already visited Chantilly Cakes immediately after Cakes Plus and what a refreshing experience!! Des at Chantilly is very professional and she gave us SLICES of cake to try, scoops of filling and piles of icing - not bite size amounts! She kept mentioning other flavors readily available in case we wanted to try them too, but we were stuffed, impressed, and had already made our decision! :) We are ever so pleased that we went with Chantilly, it was really a no-brainer anyway.

Even though we did not go with Cakes Plus, I still remember this experience quite vividly and really wanted to put my experience here because I would hate for another bride to "settle" for Cakes Plus when better can be had quite easily.

BEST WEDDING I'VE EVER HAD and my guests agreed!

I cannot say wnough great things about Cakes Plus! Not only was the service great, (we worked with the co-owner...the son) but they really worked with us to make the biggest and best cake for our budget. The cake was UNBELIEVABLY good! I received so many compliments on the look and taste!

We went through the Sandpearl Resort, they had a package deal with Cakes Plus where they would show us what was within the package and we could go from ther. Mario from Cakes Plus was great. He showed us what was in our price range and was able to help design a cake based on detail I liked from several examples. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that they did not offer cake tasting =(

I was working with cakes plus from out of stat and through my mom who lives here. WE were first told that we couldn't have the flavor we wanted and i have now learned that lots of other bakeries do that flavor. The fondont on the cake was so thick that my grrom and i had trouble cutting out cake. THe fondont on the cake was also cracked and had wholes in it. Me being pastry chef i designed my cake myself and had my mom take it to marieo and we were told that it would be no problem. The cake that i got on my wedding day was not my design and i was disappointed. They are over priced and do very bad work i will not reccomemd them. The owner off the company is also very rude they supposed to arrive to set our cake up at 3pm and were gone before 2:45pm i had to put on my own cake topper. I'm very very disappointed.

This cake was soooo delicious. So many people told us it was the best wedding cake they ever tasted. People were going back for seconds! Unfortunately the cake was slightly lopsided and the icing around the bottom was uneven and chipped. When you pay so much for a cake it should look as good as it tastes.

Our wedding cake was BEAUTIFUL! Nina Torres thought of a wonderful way to incorporate our wedding colors into our cake. She is also very talented when it comes to sugar flowers and made a beautiful cake topper of sugar flower hydrangeas.

Not only was our wedding cake beautiful, it was also delcious! We got the house speciality and we just loved it. My husband and I can't wait until our first anniversary so we can eat the top!

It was perfect and exactly what I wanted. Everyone raved about it.The cake was beautiful and tasted amazing. It was the BEST cake I have ever had.
