We had my daughters wedding at Bernardo winery and it was truly amazing! We worked with Terri and Mehgan as coordinators and they were both delightful! We Choose Mark with Cake Entertainment to do the DJ ing and as our band- Mark was great and made it really fun! the venue is perfect for a Rustic Wedding. We used the heaters and everyone was quite comfortable. The venue has to close at 9pm since it is in a residential area so we brought the party to Rancho Bernardo Inn while others just went to bed and didn't feel guilty for not staying until the last minute. We use Abbey Catering and had Federico as our coordinator there. The food was amazing and for a pretty good price. We were pleased with everything about the wedding! .
This Vineyard by far went out of its way to make our wedding day a most memorable one. They were very accommodating with what we wanted, as we had 43 people traveling from the East coast for our destination wedding. Terry the wedding coordinator made sure everthing was to our liking!
The Bernardo Winery is a beautiful wedding venue. There are some restrictions, but they're easy to work around. It is worth it to have such a beautiful backdrop to the wedding! They're price was reasonable and they have fantastic wines! Terry is invaluable on the big day. She put us at ease and helped everything to keep moving. And her services were included in the price! I was so happy with my choice!
On May 17th, 2014 we had our wedding at the beautiful Bernardo Winery. The week leading up to the wedding was filled with fires breaking out all over the San Diego area and increasingly hot temperatures. Luckily the day of our wedding the weather was perfect and everything went as smooth as I could have hoped for. After a year and a half of planning the moment we saw the venue all set up it was all worth it. We had a lot of guests traveling from out of town and we are still getting compliments for how wonderful the venue was and how great it was to go from snow to beautiful sunny Bernardo Winery.
Terry and her team were amazing the whole night, they made sure everything flowed and stayed connected with us throughout the wedding. I had so much fun, the food from Cafe Merlot was delicious, the drinks were cold and so perfect and everyone had a great time!
The DJ (Jeremy Jones of Party People who is a preferred vendor at the winery) had everyone on the dance floor the entire night and I couldn't have asked for a better wedding. My husband had the best day, which makes me so happy. I would recommend the Bernardo Winery, Cafe Merlot, Jeremy, and everyone on site that night to anyone looking to get married. No issues arose and if they did they were behind the scenes and well taken care of. It's just a really magical place and I can't wait to visit again.
If you are looking for a romantic and rustic wedding venue Bernardo Winery is your place. Everyone went above and beyond to make our special day so special and it truly was. It felt like a dream, and it was really our dream wedding.
Thank you Bernardo Winery!
I grew up in a small town in San Diego and knew I wanted that quaint yet elegant feel to my wedding. I found Bernardo Winery on the web and was immediately impressed. From Terry our wedding coordinator to Toni @ Cafe Merlot on site, everyone exceeded my expectations. The venue is perfect - the village gives it a sense of small town all the while being smack town in the middle suburban homes. Terry helps with EVERYTHING. If you are organized and work closely with Terry, there is no need for a wedding planner (even if you are planning from across the country aka Virginia like I was). She is wonderful and accommodating. If you want a rustic and garden feel to your wedding, this is the venue for you.
My husband and I were so impressed with this venue for our wedding. Terry, the wedding manager, was awesome and took care of pretty much everything. Major decorations are already there, and the outdoor area along with the barnlike patio is perfect for weddings of any size. We used Cafe Merlot as our caterers and they were equally awesome! Could not have wished for a better wedding. The only thing we wished we could have was another hour but since this is a residential area we know that it has to end at 9 pm.
Our wedding was perfect thanks to the help of the wonderful winery staff!
Our wedding was magical.. Terry Lowery was the reason behind that. She took care of all of the day of issues, coordinated all her staff and the staff of Cafe Merlot, my DJ and officiant. She made se I was relaxed and able to concentrate on my guests and new husband. Truly couldn't have dreamed of a better location!!!
This is a beautiful venue! My day was just as I had imagined. Thanks to the amazing venue coordinator Terry and the fantastic food from Cafe Merlot everything was wonderful. The venue has so much personality. A photographers dream...
We highly recommend having your wedding at the Bernardo Winery. Our event was so personal and fit us perfectly. We loved having our ceremony in Vito's Park!
This is a beautiful place for a wedding- it has the charm and rustic feel my daughter wanted. I did experience the same problems with responsiveness as the other comments here, until they got a new wedding coordinator. The new gal, Terry is a gem. She was so helpful, friendly and accommodating. She went all out to make sure we were happy. The venue is a bit expensive and the remodeled bathrooms are not as upscale as you would hope for a wedding, but fine for a winery. Cafe Merlot has the best food and Toni Kraft is amazing. Very nice to work with.
Bernardo Winery is a lovely venue to host a wedding but there are some restrictions that everyone should be aware of. 1) Sound System was horrible. They told us about the limitations but when you actually hear it, it's worse then you think. If music is important to you, make sure you check it out beforehand. It's low and scratchy at times. My DJ said they have some remote switch and kept lowering the volume the whole night. 2) No glassware. Wine, soda, beer are served in plastic tumblers. Water served in plastic bottles. I was kind of bummed to find this out a few months before my wedding. I guess it's minor but if you want a certain look, plastic cups will put a cramp in your style. Only champagne is served in glass flutes. 3) Everything must end at 9pm. This is because the venue is located in a residential area so events must end early. If you want to party late, this place will not accommodate that. Other than these three restrictions, Bernardo would have been perfect! We still had a great time and was able to have a beautiful outdoor wedding within our budget.
I recently got married at the Bernardo winery. I would never recommend the winery as a wedding venue. Although I was extremely happy with our caterer Cafe Merlot they were awesome and our bartender was great! I would recommend going there for a wine tasting, to enjoy the shops, or to eat at Cafe Merlot. The event coordinator offered to move our wedding to the Bernardo Inn on the day of our event because my mother asked them to clean the cobwebs out of the restrooms. Even though they promised at the time we paid, the bathrooms would be detail cleaned. My mother was willing to hire an outside cleaning service. There were cobwebs in the corners, an un-mopped floor, etc. When my mother spoke to Rossi (the owner) about it, his response was, he bet he could find cobwebs at my mother’s house! I experienced non-existent customer service on the event staffs part which began about the time our event was paid in full (90 days in advance, per their policy). The event manager disappeared on the day of my wedding offering zero help and allowing rift raft to intrude on my wedding I actually had a winery patron ask me for directions! After payment was made in full it was nearly impossible to get the event staff to respond to emails or phone calls when I was requesting assistance with simple wedding preparations. I was sincerely hoping they would make up for it on the actual day of the event, unfortunately they failed miserably. Do yourself the favor and have your event elsewhere as the winery staff recommended.
Amazingly beautiful...full accomodations. Staff is great and no need for a wedding planner with this venue!
The Bernardo Winery is a lovely venue with a lot of charm, I honestly couldn't have imagined our wedding at another location. My husband grew-up in the area and we'd visited the winery several times. We love their wine and the country feel of the Winery. I will say that dealing with the event coordinator was a chore and I almost didn't book this venue because she never returned my calls or emails in a timely matter. We're talking weeks. When we went to meet with her for our last meeting before the wedding day, she was over an hour late and unapologetic. She had forgotten many of the things we had discussed before, things I had written her emails about so she would have in writing. There was also another wedding that day and she wasn't helping them. The day of the wedding they forgot the chairs I'd asked for several times and I found out later never chilled the beer. They were serving my guest warm beer for the majority of the evening. I understand that the summer I had my wedding there was a death in the family that owns and runs the winery. If I understand correctly, their Grandson is now running the winery and is making several changes. I hope those changes involve more attention to their couples and better organization because this really is a lovely venue.
The Bernardo Winery is beautiful. We had our reception at Rosario's Pavilion which is a great space. Annie worked hard with our caterer in our one meeting together (the caterer, her and myself) to ensure that they were also helping to provide a quality event. She also gave us several complimentary wine tastings so we could pick out the right wines for our event. Yum!
It is gorgeous there and they are very flexible as we had a photo booth, a bounce house, dj with slide show...etc. The only bummer is that the events need to end by 9pm due to sound issues to the neighboring houses. Our ceremony was at St. Michael Catholic Church which made this a perfect reception site for being only two miles away.
