The place is absolutely beautiful. So many different flowers in bloom during the spring.
I chose to have the ceremony at the reflection pool, followed by an outdoor reception at the Gardener's Cottage. The reflection pool was immaculate, as well as the walled garden, and it was the perfect area for our wedding. I also loved the fountain in the walled garden. We then had the reception at the cottage, with food, gifts and cake inside, while the bar and seating was outside. We had over 50 guests and there was plenty of room. People were scattered through out the area during the course of the reception, with people on the dance floor, or either sitting at the reception tables, on the porch swing or inside the cottage. The bricked flooring in front of the cottage was a great spot for dancing. It was a beautiful day and I am so happy we chose Maclay for our wedding.
Beautiful backdrop for the wedding! Carolyn was so helpful in day-of madness and the space is lovely.
We had our destination wedding at Maclay Gardens and the reception in the gardeners cottage. Carolyn from Fairytale Wedding Services was a huge help with everything. She was there to set up all the ceremony chairs and tables for the reception. She was so great to work with . We even had to add last minute outdoor heaters to the rental list since the temperature the day of the wedding decided to drop to 35 degrees and I was having an outdoor reception! The value of the location was unbelievable. Everyone loved how beautiful the location was and could understand why we decided to have our wedding in such a beautiful place. It was well worth the four hour drive. I wouldn't change a thing!
Maclay Gardens is a beautiful park, and our wedding / reception went very smoothly under Carolyn Langston's direction and setup!
If you have your heart set on a Saturday wedding date during the spring months, I'd advise you to book early; we booked 5 months in advance and were lucky enough to nab a Friday, which was less costly worked out great for us. If you're even more set on having the gardens in full bloom for your wedding, don't worry - even if you miss the full bloom (as we did), the gardens always has *something* in bloom somewhere, and the well-tended park allows for beautiful wedding any time of the year.
The park offers many locations to hold your ceremony, particularly if you're aiming for a smaller crowd; the many options were all beautiful and tempting!
For the reception, most crowds probably won't fit in their cottage, but the cottage was perfect for holding the catering serving tables (buffet style) and a nice, open space for the cake, and there was a nice private changing room for the bridal party. Since our ceremony was more toward mid-afternoon we needed to have a tent to shade guests; if you go for the late afternoon/evening hours it could save you tent-rental money (and you won't have squinting photos!). Note that there are volume restrictions on music until 6pm, but I don't recall being forced to turn down the volume - whatever the volume level is forced to be at, it seemed well loud enough!
Carolyn Langston runs a great wedding service. She's very professional, organized, and patient with crazy information-obsessed brides (such as myself). Thank you Carolyn, and thank you Maclay Gardens for a wonderful wedding!
Carolyn Langston (Fairytale Weddings) is amazing. From start to finish, she was helpful and flexible. Highly recommend.
Beautiful location! My only complaint is that we were required to rent the Cottage in order to get our bus close to the reception site even though there was no event scheduled there for that day.
Maclay Gardens is a beautiful place to have a wedding! Our ceremony pictures are great as a result. I would highly recommend booking the Gardener's Cottage as well. We took our "getting ready" pictures in the beautiful, vintage looking cottage and they are lovely. Also gives you a nice place to have a guest bathroom and set our some lemonade or iced tea! Be aware that no electronic music is allowed, however, and that typically for ceremony music you will need to go with a string quartet or maybe a guitarist, as we did.
Maclay Gardens was a beautiful wedding ceremony site; however, the staff, while responsive had the attitude of "it is what it is and there's nothing anyone can do about it." Again, the location was wonderful and beautiful and for the money was awesome - I just wished the staff had been a little more helpful.
Very helpful. The grounds are some of the most beautiful in the area . Price listed includes grdner's Cottage for the recption as well
Maclay Gardens offered great value for our money. We were able to rent a cottage located on the property for our reception area. Inside the cottage was large enough for our guests to walk around and mingle with each other during our pre-reception time. We were also able to use the surrounding area of the cottage to put our tent and other items for our reception. Our wedding ceremony overlooked the reflection pool in the gardens. This backdrop was wonderfully beautiful - there was no need for flowers. The use of both of these sites was very inexpensive. However, the time limits are strictly enforced, and music cannot be played until the park is closed (after 6:00pm). Also, you need to ensure that your vendors pick up everything before the park closes. Otherwise, great experience.
