How many bottles of wine?
In order to reduce costs, we are forgoing the bar and buying bottles of red & white wine. For a guest list of 150 ( including approx. 20 under 21) how many bottles of wine should we get? Buffet reception is starting at 3pm on a Saturday.

Good evening happybride1022, on average one bottle of wine will serve 8-10 individuals. So if you are serving 150 I would purchase 15 bottles

"They" say to plan on each guest having 1/2 bottle of wine (2 glasses), but if your guests are like mine you might want to get more. I am also having about 150 at my wedding and we are getting I think 100 bottles. We went to the local grocery store (Raley's) and found some good wine on sale, then negotiated with the supervisor and got a great deal. Plus most places will give you 10% off per bottle if you get a case.

One bottle of wine is only 4 glasses, so there is NO WAY a bottle would serve 8-10 people! We are also going to get a couple cases of bottled beer for the few people who would prefer that. Costco has good deals and we are estimating about $1 per beer.

Too much wine gives you a headache!
You do not want your guests to talk about having a headache after your wedding. It most certainly is not good news about you and your wedding.

My recommendation is to visit you local liquor store and ask
the salesclerk to recommend a good wine that is affordable.
Also ask the salesclerk how many servings can you get from one bottle. As a matter of fact, ask the salesclerk whatever you need to know. You will get the correct answer because the salesclerk wants the sale.

Please let us know the outcome.

First I hope the place is allowing you to bring outside liquor, if not, ask them to do the bottles of wine on consumption, that way you only pay for the bottles opened. As per how many bottles, you will need to take into consideration:
*How large are the glasses. If it is a 8oz glass the pour will be 6oz; giving you about 5 glasses per bottle.
*Will people serve themselves or will the waiters be serving the wine.
*How many options of wines will you have, and what type?
*Also will you serve beer, soft drinks or juices?

If you are serving beer and have the small 8oz wine glasses, prepare to have people brink about 2.5 to 3, if you are not having beer, prepare for 4 to 5 glasses per adult.
