A Matron of Honor is someone your close to that is married. A Maid of Honor is someone your close to that is not married. And no you do not have to have both... its up to you completely!!!
Hope that helps

Technically, its your wedding and you don't have to have either.
The Maid or Matron of Honr is typically your go to while planning your wedding. They help you pick out your dress and help you with planning. Stuff like that.

Hello there -

both the maid of Honor and the Matron of Honor are the same position of importance in the wedding. the difference in name just shows marital status. Maid of honor is an Unmarried woman, and Matron of Honor is a married woman.

Traditionaly brides had would have many maidens to help them with the wedding plans and to get read etc... and there was the "head maiden - or Matron" who was the one sort of in charge of them. Traditionaly there was only one maid or matron of honor but in this day and age where rules of etiquett are falling by the wayside many brides will have more than one maid/matron of honor and or have none...

One of the primary roles of the Maid/matron of honor is to be one of the witnesses. The best man is the other witness. When paper work is signed about the wedding - the bride and groom need two people to sign as witnesses of the marriage. typically it is the best man & maid of honor. I now this is a lot but hopefully it helped.
