Valerie and Amy were married at Monterre Vineyards in Orefield, Penn. on May 17. “We first connected over a bottle of wine; a vineyard seemed quite fitting,” Valerie said. “It was also quaint and rustic and offered a beautiful oak tree for our ‘I do’ backdrop.” The bride wore a strapless a-line wedding gown with a ruffled skirt, accessorized with a jeweled sash, while the other bride wore a satin one-shoulder a-line wedding gown, accessorized with a pair of red platform pumps. “Our son decided he wanted red at the wedding, but I wanted to stay away from traditional combinations,” she said. “So, we went with a ‘citrus’ color scheme.” Guests were greeted with a program that said, “during the ceremony, we will ask for support, hear a reading, take our vows, exchange our bling, braid a thing, hammer some nails, and cry some happy tears.” Following, the Mrs. and Mrs. led the way to cocktail hour with ribbon wands “like you just don’t care.” Once inside, seats were found via keys, tables were decorated with orchid centerpieces, bird’s nests and eggs, and bottle numbers, and Mad Libs and a Hershey’s chocolate bar, which served double-duty as favors, at each place setting. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Give yourself time,” Valerie said. “Spread out the timeline if you can that way you can really soak up every bit of it. Oh and have enough time to eat and enjoy the appetizers too.”

Chateau Elan Real Wedding: The Details

From the Photographer: “A couple of weeks after arriving to Atlanta I was so honored to be asked by Jennifer Lackey at Story Book Wedding Consulting to photograph the details of one of their weddings being held at Chateau Elan.  Having heard people rave about it since I was a little girl, it was an exciting opportunity to not only see the beautiful wedding details, but the winery as well!  I was so happy to find that not only was the design and decor fabulous, all of the people involved (Tulip Event Design, I do linens, Eberle Invitations, Marina Miller and more) were also absolutely wonderful to work with!” –Carla Gates Photography

Jessica + Ryan

May 23, 2009

Hans Fahden Vineyards – Calistoga, CA

Note from the Bride: “I have always loved vibrant colors reminiscent of a Spanish/Mexican flair, and the flowers, linens, throw pillows and decorations turned out wonderfully.  Our first dance was a salsa dance.  I changed into a sassy dress and Ryan wore a fedora.  We had a blast preparing for this, and it was fantastic!  We walked into ACDC, “Thunderstruck”, which took us back to our classic rock roots.  Everybody got into that.  Dinner was in a wine cave, which was very unique.  When we opened the doors to the cave everybody was in awe.  The food was wonderful and we loved that it was family style – it was seated but they served us every course.  Everyone said it was the best wedding food they had ever had.  All the food was locally grown and seasonal.  We weren’t able to pick our menu until a few weeks before! But it was well worth it. Lastly, we decided not to have a cake, but had a dessert buffet and passed ice cream/cookie sandwiches.  We had fun feeding each other these for our “food” picture!

Having all of our closest friends and family surrounding us in such an intimate environment was the most important for us.  Being able to look out and share a smile with somebody during the ceremony made us feel connected.  Our Reverend was amazing, and brought everybody into the ceremony.  We both had our 2 siblings (Ryan has 2 sisters and Jessica has 2 brothers) in the wedding party, which couldn’t have been more important to us.”
