WeddingWire DMV’s Ask the Pros event brought engaged couples, family, and friends from across the DC/Maryland/Virginia region together for an afternoon of wedding information and inspiration at Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center. While guests toasted their upcoming nuptials, Hyatt treated everyone to incredible dishes like seared diver scallops with Malaysian chili celery tarter, braised short rib with parsnip puree, and tomato cauliflower panna cotta with black quinoa, herbs, and flowers. Amphora Bakery and Fluffy Thoughts Cakes provided delectable desserts including gold glitter cake pops, mini cupcakes, cake squares, lemon bars, and macarons. Read on for a glimpse into the event, with images captured by Tania Hossain Photography.

Not only did guests enjoy tasty bites and beverages, but they also had all of their wedding questions answered by a panel of local wedding professionals! James, of Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center; Maryam, of Maryam Flowers; Ashlee, of Ashlee Virginia Events; and Marc of Washington Talent Agency provided expert advice and brilliant wedding planning insight. Thank you to our incredible panelists for such a fun-filled and informative afternoon!

Once the panel ended, everyone headed upstairs for an unexpected surprise – champagne, additional sweets, and a mock wedding setup! Gold chiavari chairs, tablescapes by Party Rentals, flowers by Maryam Flowers, music by Washington Talent Agency, and a dance floor set the stage for an exquisitely designed mock reception. An adjacent ceremony room was even set with seating so that guests were able to envision a full wedding experience in the space. Guests mixed and mingled while exploring the details, chatted 1:1 with the panelists, relaxed on the beautiful terrace, and even toured the bridal suite and guest rooms.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and to our amazing partners! If you’d like to find out about future events or learn more about getting involved with the WeddingWire Community, you can reach out to WeddingWire Community Manager Jamie at

Modern Green and Blue Summer Hotel Wedding in DC

Q & A with the Bride

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

We knew we wanted to have a city wedding but didn’t want a traditional, formal hotel.  The Hotel Monaco in downtown DC was exactly what we were looking for in a reception venue:  fun, colorful, and modern yet full of history as the former General Post Office of DC.  The hotel maintains so many original details like marble columns and stairways, and the ballroom is in the old  library.

We were lucky to find the historic Sixth & I synagogue right down the street for the ceremony.  More than 100 years old, it was absolutely stunning with a beautiful domed ceiling and an intimate atmosphere.  It was perfect.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

Green Flowers: I wanted bright lime and green flowers to contrast with the teal bridesmaids’ dresses and teal ties for the groomsmen.  My florist used green roses, hydrangeas, orchids, berries, and more.  I loved how it all came together, and it matched my lime green peep-toe heels.

Our Cocktail: Adam and I love spicy cocktails, so we opted for a special drink to kick off the evening.  Chili and horseradish vodka, grapefruit, fresh basil, and seltzer.  Did everyone love it?  Probably not – but we did – and that’s all that matters!

Mom’s Toffee Favors: My mom’s homemade chocolate toffee candy is a favorite treat, and we wanted to share it as parting gift to all of our friends and family.  We gave Adam’s mom and aunt the recipe, and they starting baking and packaging it up weeks in advance.

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Outsource!  Hire a planner and enjoy the ride.  The last thing you and your family want to do on wedding day is worry about details.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

Strolling through the streets of DC, our photographer in tow, following the big reveal.  Even though there were crowds of people around, it felt like we had the city to ourselves.  I couldn’t take my eyes off of Adam, and I couldn’t stop smiling.

teamed up with Mix 107.3 to give one lucky couple from the DC area a dream wedding BUT they only had one week to plan! We are thrilled to congratulate Stacy and John, the winning couple in our My Wedding in a Week contest, who got married last week! Take a look at the gorgeous newlyweds:

Q & A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

One was the timeless/historic nature of DAR and the second was the breathtaking portico with views of the Washington Monument.  It was the perfect location and our guests couldn’t stop raving about it!

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

  1. I think the most important and best decision we made was to have a cocktail-style reception.  Our guests spent the whole night socializing, dancing, eating, and drinking rather than being held to the tight schedule of a sit-down dinner.  It was awesome hearing so many of our guests say “It’s over already? Can we get an extra hour?”  And, FYI, our guests got plenty of food (I mention that because it was a concern for us during planning)!
  2. The music.  There was the perfect mix of music to keep everyone on the dance floor the entire reception.
  3. The location.  I was born and raised in DC but my husband is from New York.  It was important to me to have a “very DC” wedding and DAR was exactly that.  Both our out-of-town and local guests were in awe of the DAR – the building, the view, and the overall atmosphere.  DAR was also the perfect backdrop for stunning pictures!

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

Our first look.  It was absolutely the best decision Len and I made when planning our day!  The first look was an amazing moment.  The sequence of photos captured by our photographer, Meredith Hanafi, are our absolute favorites!  Also, the first look made seeing each other a private moment that we could really enjoy.
