Katelyn and Matt were married at Chicago Illuminating Company in Chicago, Ill. on September 6. “When Matt and I walked into our venue for the first time, both of our hearts started pounding,” Katelyn said. “The venue was modern and nontraditional but very elegant. I think we just knew it was the right venue for us, but the fact that we could have everything on sight, and there was a gorgeous, ivy courtyard definitely helped.” The bride wore a sweetheart lace mermaid wedding gown with a keyhole back, accessorized with her hair in an updo, fingertip-length veil, jeweled sash, and a pair of Badgley Mischka open-toe high heels, while the groom wore a black suit, accessorized with a bow tie. “My veil was previously worn by two of my cousinss, who were also bridesmaids,” she said. “And around my bouquet, I carried a charm with a picture of my nana and pop pop, who were nable to be there with us on the wedding day.” Bridesmaids wore long gray one-shoulder chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, ranuncluses, hydrangeas, silver brunia balls, and dusty miller. Before the ceremony, the couple did not opt for a first look. “I decided do to one with my dad,” Katelyn said. “My dad and I have been very close, and I knew it would be very emotional for both of us when he saw me for the first time,” she said. “For me, seeing his face when he walked into the room and saw his ‘little girl’ as a bride was one of the best moments of the day.” Guests were greeted inside the loft with ceiling heights ranging from 15 feet to 50 feet. Aisles were lined with floating candles in staggered vases, tall altar arrangements, and fabric delicately draped across the windows for the backdrop. “The other moment I can’t stop thinking about is coming around the corner and seeing Matt for the first time as I walked down the aisle,” Katelyn said. “It immediately felt like we were the only two people in the room. I couldn’t stop smiling and barely kept myself from crying! After months of planning and hours of getting ready, it was such a rush of emotions to see him and finally get to marry him.” Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official! Cocktail hour began as the entire wedding party wandered outside to take portraits by Lake Michigan. The reception followed shortly thereafter. Tables were decorated with white linens, gray napkins, mercury glass centerpieces, and votive candles, surrounded by chiavari chairs. After dinner, a three-tiered buttercream-frosted cake was cut and served. Bonus: a late-night snack from The Slide Ride food truck. The newlyweds’ best advice? “During the reception, take a moment to step back with your new spouse and look around,” she said. “Look at all your hard work you put into planning this amazing day and look at all the people, who have come to celebrate you two and love you both.”
Chika and Joseph were married in a traditional church ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic followed by a reception at Greensboro Downtown Marriott in Greensboro, N.C. on July 19. The bride wore a strapless sweetheart ball gown with a ruched bodice and tulle skirt, accessorized with her hair in an updo, jeweled headpiece, floor-length veil, and a pair of Jimmy Choo glitter high heels, while the groom wore a navy blue tuxedo with black lapes, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids wore long one-shoulder navy blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, lillies, lisanthus, and geraniums. Despite the rain showers hovering overhead, the ceremony took place at 1 o’clock inside the sanctuary, featuring high-pitched ceilings with wooden arch beams. Only close family and friends sat in pews, decorated with ribbon, and an altar with two of the exact same upholstered chairs, to witness the exchanging of vows. Once it was sealed with a kiss, it was official! Cocktail hour began in the hotel’s hallways with dinner and dancing in the ballroom shortly thereafter. Tables were decorated with gold sequin linens, red napkins, floating candle centerpieces, and lanterns. For extra entertainment, Nigerian performers arrived as a surprise. Fun fact: it paid homage to the newlyweds’ country. Even money was thrown in the air! A three-tiered cake was served for dessert during the toasts. Not a dry eye could be found the rest of the night.
Sarah and Matt were married at Canlis in Seattle, Wash. on August 16. “We both are foodies, and when we found out one of the nicest restaurants in the city did weddings, we jumped at the chance to have our wedding there,” Sarah said. “We also knew that their service is impeccable, and our guests would be well taken care of.” The bride wore a sweetheart a-line wedding gown with an illusion lace bodice and tulle skirt, accessorized with her hair in an updo, jeweled sash, and a pair of peep-toe high heels, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a striped tie. “Our main colors were blue and yellow,” she said. “We wanted a lot of bright colors for the rest of the flowers.” Bridesmaids wore short long-sleeved lace blue dresses and carried bouquets of roses, dahlias, hydrangeas, daisies, and greenery. Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look on the staircase. It took place in one of the three dining rooms, which features 180 degree views of the Seattle city skyline, and officiated by her uncle/godfather. Once the vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official! Fun fact: the marriage license was signed in the wine cellar! “As a thank you to my parents for contributing to the wedding, we got them each a special present,” Sarah said. “For my dad, we arranged for one of the owners of the restaurant to put together a whiskey tasting for him and his two brothers during cocktail hour. All three of them absolutely loved it are still talking about it!” The reception followed shortly thereafter. Guests were encouraged to sit wherever they liked. Tables were decorated with white linens, blue napkins, vintage vase and vessel and wine bottle centerpieces atop wooden tree slices, and votive candles, surrounded by upholstered chairs. In lieu of a traditional guest book, “we put out little note cards where people could write down their funny or serious advice for us,” she said. The favors were even homemade. “I loved making our herb salt favors,” Sarah said. “We have gotten so many compliments on how practical, tasty, and how very ‘us’ they were/are.” A two-tiered buttercream-frosted cake was cut and served concluding dinner. The newlyweds’ best advice? “For the day-of, build some buffer time into your timeline because things will take longer than you think,” Sarah said. “Don’t sweat it if you have to cut out a picture location. In the end, it’s all about celebrating you and your husband. Also, both of you should take a moment during your reception to soak it all in and enjoy it.” At the end of the night, they jetted off to their honeymoon in Napa.
Katie and Dante were married in a traditional courthouse ceremony followed by a reception at the University Club of Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif. on August 9. “It was beautiful and low-key,” Katie said. “We love that combination.” The bride wore a BHLDN strapless a-line wedding dress with a tiered tulle skirt, accessorized with her hair in an updo and a pair of wedges, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a navy blue checkered button-up and tie. She carried a bouquet of carnations, calla lilies, proteas, succulents, scabiosa pods, and ferns. Guests were greeted inside the courthouse’s mural room with floor-to-ceiling hand-painted walls and two wrought-iron chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Fun fact: It dates back to 1850. “Walking down the aisle [with both parents was my favorite moment],” she said. Almost 80 sat in pews to witness the exchanging of vows. Once it was sealed with a kiss, it was official! The reception took place next door inside the historic mansion. Tables were decorated with white linens, mason jar centerpieces, wooden numbers, and favor bags,”wishing riches for the new Mr. and Mrs.,” filled with lottery tickets at each place setting, surrounded by upholstered chairs. After dinner, a mini cake was cut and served for dessert. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Relax and enjoy,” Katie said. “As long as you have the people that are important to you in your life with you, you are all set.” At the end of the night, they exited amongst a sea of sparklers.
Lindsey and Jordan were married at Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 22. “There wasn’t actually one thing,” Lindsey said. “Everything was so beautiful. We loved the view from where we got married to the amazing gardens.” The bride wore a strapless lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with her hair down in loose curls, structured bow sash, and a pair of mint Mary Jane high heels, while the groom wore a three-piece light gray suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore short yellow satin dresses and carried bouquets of roses, ranunculuses, craspedia balls, scabiosa pods, and succulents. Guests were greeted with a chalkboard sign that said, “Welcome to the best day ever . . . tag your photos on Instagram with #JandLrock.” The ceremony took place in the Fragrance Garden underneath a wisteria arbor with scenic views of the Wasatch Range. Once the vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official with almost 225 witnessing. The reception took place inside the Rose House featuring floor-to-ceiling windows. Tables were decorated with white linens, yellow runners, and vintage vases and vessels, surrounded by folding padded chairs. “Our DJ was able to get everyone out on the dance floor to celebrate, even people we would have never thought,” she said. “Our food was fantastic and different from anything else I’ve seen at a wedding. Just the support we felt from all of family and friends throughout the whole day was more than memorable.” A three-tiered buttercream frosted cake atop a wooden tree slice was cut for dessert. Even the cake topper matched their attire! The newlyweds’ best advice? “Be calm and start early,” Lindsey said. “Yes, this is the most important day of your life, but focus on the man or woman you are marrying more than stressing over simple little details. Remember that you are getting married and that is the most important part of the day. Start early and have people helping you other than family too. I was so grateful our families got to enjoy the day instead of having to set up chairs or worry if all the vendors were arriving on time.” At the end of the night, they exited amongst a sea of ribbon wands, and jetted off on their honeymoon to Florida.
