Galyn and Martin were married at The Grand Concourse in Pittsburg, Pa. on May 10. “The Grand Concourse has an absolutely stunning interior, incredible food, and convenience of the area to accommodate traveling guests,” Galyn said. “We went with a color scheme of shades of white with a splash of dove gray and silver accents — think lots of mirrors and mercury glass!” The bride wore an embroidered a-line wedding gown with an capped sleeves and an illusion back, accessorized with a jeweled sash, while the groom wore a black suit, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids wore short gray chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of daisies, tulips, and mums. “My amazing husband designed ALL of the paper goods (and website) for the event,” she said. “From the 28 page invitation booklet that arrived in a custom printed linen bag to the equally beautiful programs and ‘doggie bags’ featuring a photo of our dog, Kosta, that could be filled with goodies at the dessert table to take home with them.” Following the ceremony, which took place inside the restored Lake Erie Railroad Station, a finger snapping, foot tapping, jazz band began performing ‘The Charleston,’ complete with professional swing dancers. “We emerged onto one of the balconies overlooking the dining room, and everyone roared with delight dressed to the nines in their black-tie garb, fun fedoras, feathered headbands, and long gloves,” Galyn said. “The glamour of it all looked PERFECT, It was truly a vision that we will hold dear to us for the rest of our lives.”

Foodie Fall Restaurant Wedding in Canada

Lisa and Shawn were married at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on October 15.  (Fun fact: it has an open-concept kitchen!) Prior to the ceremony, the couple decided to have a first look to calm those nervous jitters. The bride wore a sweetheart lace wedding gown, accessorized with a crystal rhinestone belt and floral hairpin in her loose curls, while the groom wore a dark gray suit, accessorized with fun striped socks. Cocktail hour featured a delectable cheese buffet, including Guinness cheddar, bleu benedictine, and Pierre Robert just to name a few. The reception was lit with floor-to-ceiling windows and decorated with white hydrangea and red dahlia centerpieces wrapped in burlap. Guests enjoyed dinner and dancing until their tummies were full and feet were ill. To their surprise, late-night snacks were served — mini hamburger sliders and poutine aka french fries topped with a gravy-like sauce and cheese curds.

Judy and Neil were married at Aurora Ristorante in Brooklyn, N.Y. on October 20. Prior to the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look under the Brooklyn Bridge. The bride wore a sweetheart ruffled wedding gown, accessorized with a sparkly sash, pearl necklace, and drop earrings. Her bouquet featured red and pink dahlias and white calla lilies and roses. One of her favorite details? Her now husband’s suit! Following the traditional Jewish ceremony, the reception began with delicious food and wine. “It was amazing to have all our friends and family in one place,” Judy said. “The horah was pretty great too!”

Artistic Spring Cafe Wedding in South Carolina

Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one? 

It’s the shared history: Kent and I grew up in this church together, so there was really never a question. It made for an amazing day—walking down the aisle on which we had chased each other around at various youth group functions and seeing so many familiar sights from our past. The fact that the church itself is absolutely lovely didn’t hurt either!

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. Colors: My inspiration came from a Vincent van Gogh poster I purchased in Amsterdam that has graced my bedroom walls for years, creating a very content and calm atmosphere. I wanted the same for the wedding and carried the theme throughout—from the invitations to the bridesmaid dresses to the flowers.

2. Holly Graciano, our photographer: I first heard of Holly as an Art History undergrad when my professor mentioned that his wife was doing wedding photography. When I looked her up after our time had come, I immediately fell for her eye for design and composition. For someone like me, who could spend hours looking at paintings and drawings, was extremely important to me that we have mementos that were both meaningful and beautiful.

3. Handmade and handpicked bits and pieces: I loved that my mom and I were able to work together to create a really thoughtful day. We made signs, lanterns, the ring bearer’s “pillow,” which turned out to be a shell from the beach where Kent and I were engaged, and the heirloom cake recipe that my Memaw used to make. She passed away years ago, but I didn’t feel like she was so far away when Kent and I shared that first bite of Italian cream cake.

3. Give us the one moment in your wedding day that you can’t stop thinking about.

Aside from replaying my few “last words” with my father before we walked out of the bridal room, it’s the getaway and the feeling that all was well with the world at that moment. Our friends and family, many of whom had never met before and would likely never meet again, surrounded us as we walked out of a perfect reception into a perfect evening with beautiful sparklers and wish lanterns lighting the night sky. Holding Kent’s hand, I knew that I was blessed, undeservedly, beyond measure and that this moment would be one to never forget.

Q & A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

We love the Duce, we would go there for weekend brunch often and our photographers suggested we look into it for our wedding. Since several of our guests would be traveling to our wedding we liked that we could share one of our little downtown Phoenix jewels! It was so us and my husband-to-be was so incredibly excited, I loved that he was invested in the decision. The appeal of it being different than your standard hotel ballroom was a big part of it too.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

My dress that my talented friend, Tara Ballantyne, Interior and Food Stylist out of Toronto, Ontario created rosettes out of my great grandmother’s hairpin lace that was over 100 years old, it added such a personal touch to my new dress, and was such an heirloom, my mother had also used the lace at her wedding.

The spin we took on the Duce’s bus Old School with the wedding party after the ceremony and before the reception, it was so fun riding around downtown, just relaxing, and celebrating any stress just melted away! Studio Moirae go amazing location shots with the sun going down!

The ceremony decorations, we didn’t need much since the Duce is amazing all by itself, but my mom and maid of honor dried and arranged hydrangeas from my mom’s garden in Minnesota where I grew up, they looked amazing and it was a little bit of Minnesota in my Arizona wedding, also the flags added so much, they were favors, a send off, table numbers and several of my friends still have them.

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Take the time to make it you! it doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, if you love it everyone will. Let your wedding be a reflection of your life and love with your future husband/ wife and share that with your friends and family!

When we came around the corner after the ceremony to be announced as husband and wife, to see all of our family and friends waving the flags I had made and realizing it had turned out just as I had hoped and how incredibly perfect the day was…and the party hadn’t even started yet!
