Jillian and Kim were married along Bond Street Pier followed by a reception at Admiral Fell Inn in Baltimore, Md. on September 28. “Kim and I met [at our venue] at a New Year’s Eve party hosted by a mutual acquaintance and had our first kiss on the balcony at midnight,” Jillian said. The bride wore a sweetheart floral applique bodice wedding gown with a tiered skirt, accessorized with drop dangling earrings and finger-tip length veil, while the groom wore a black suit with a bow tie. Since his alma mater is University of Maryland, College Park, Kim had his groomsmen wear socks with the state’s flag’s logo on them. Now, that’s how you show school pride! Before the ceremony, they decided to have a first look. “It was such an intimate moment seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day, and we have so many amazing pictures of it,” she said. “We wrote letters to each other instead of having readings during the ceremony. My brother read my letter to Kim, and Kim’s best man read his letter to me.” The reception followed with tables decorated with tall curly willow centerpieces accented with wine bottle table numbers. In lieu of a guestbook, guests were asked to sign an old wine barrel, and “wedding jams” CD favors were given out at the end of the night, so they could continue the dancing at home.

Sydney and Alex were married at the Inn at Huntington Creek in Rock Hall, Md. on June 22. “We loved the land surrounding our venue,” Sydney said. “Because [it] included an inn and several cottages, we were able to have our ceremony and reception at the same place, and we were able to stay there all weekend with several of our family and friends.” The bride wore a tulle J.Crew wedding gown, accessorized with a necklace, bracelet, and earrings. Her bouquet featured bright pink peonies! “I really loved experiencing our first look, and then being able to have Alex to myself for an hour before the ceremony and party started,” she said.  “I had a lot of excited energy, but was able to relax a little more when we were together!” The tented reception was decorated with blue table runners, napkins, and utensil place cards at each setting. Guests were asked to leave their thumbprint on a piece of bicycle artwork along with well wishes and advice for the newlyweds. Their favorite part? “Dancing in the barn after dinner was incredible!” Sydney said. “Also, we had a pleasant summer breeze blowing across the dance floor that kept everyone cool and excited about dancing.”

Veronica and Doyin were married in downtown Annapolis, Md. with harbor views of the Chesapeake Bay on March 2. The bride wore a Cinderella ball gown, accessorized with a jeweled embellishments, a black faux fur stole, and a vibrant bouquet of ruby red ranunculuses and garden roses, while bridesmaids wore long luminescent silver taffeta dresses, accessorized with bouquets of white ranunculuses and blush garden roses. You won’t believe Doyin’s facial expression as Veronica walks down the aisle of the church! Priceless. The reception was decorated with hundreds of floating candles to create a romantic ambience with blue uplighting, and family and friends were surprised at the end of the night when the newlyweds changed into traditional Nigerian attire.

Rainy Day Nautical-Themed Wedding in Maryland

Melissa & Joe

August 25

St. Michaels, Maryland

Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Joe and I both grew up in Maryland and had happy memories of the Eastern Shore from our childhood. St. Michaels was a great place that our whole family could get away for the weekend and really celebrate. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum provided a beautiful and unique location to host a wedding.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. The hanging lanterns. They made the tent and dance floor feel magical.

2. My veil. It was originally my grandmother’s and then my mother’s.

3. The umbrellas. I hated the rain, but they made for some great pictures.

3. If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

My advice would be know that you can’t control everything.  There will be something that won’t go as planned.  Your wedding only happens once, make the best of it and have fun! Up to the day before my wedding there was a 0% chance of rain, we ended up with over 7 inches.  For an outdoor wedding, it could have ruined our day but looking back I wouldn’t change a thing. It just made it that much more memorable.

4. Give us the one moment in your wedding that you can’t stop thinking about.

Our first dance was one of the happiest moments of my life. Another great and funny memory was walking from the cocktail hour to the tent with my husband and his groomsmen trying to keep me dry in the rain. It was raining so hard that it just had to become funny.
