It’s time for our weekly real weddings recap! Today, we’re sharing five weddings with inspiration for any style, from a glam California ceremony to a laid-back (and lobster-filled) wedding in Maine. Check out each gallery below!
Pink and Teal Minnesota Wedding – Kalin and Nick were married at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Saint Paul, Minn. followed by a reception at Courtyards of Andover in Andover, Minn. on November 21. The couple opted for a bold pink and teal color scheme. Don’t miss the bridesmaids’ pretty gowns!
Glamorous California Hotel Wedding – Kiran and Ajay were married at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point, Calif. on August 1. Their wedding was filled with traditional Hindu elements, including a gorgeous mandap and the groom’s horseback processional (called a baraat).
Summer Maine Barn Wedding – Betsie and Keith were married at the Historic Alna Meetinghouse followed by a reception at the Round Top Barn in Damariscotta, Maine on September 12. Our editors can’t get enough of this quintessential New England wedding, including the yummy lobster feast! We also love their rustic-chic decor, such as wildflower centerpieces and checkered table linens.
Classic Minnesota Summer Wedding – Kate and Stephen were married at the Cathedral of Saint Paul followed by a reception at 413 on Wacouta Event Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota on July 18. Everything about their wedding was timeless and classic, from the bride’s A-line gown to the gold and white tablescapes at the reception. Plus, we can’t resist their adorable pup, Cooper, who was a part of the big day.
Chic Outer Banks Estate Wedding – Janna and Sam were married at The Whalehead Club in Corolla, N.C. on May 29. Peach and ivory created the perfect palette for this Southern spring wedding. We especially love the bride’s amazing bouquet (it weighed more than five pounds!) of peonies and garden roses.
Lorie and Yuval were married at Soho Catering and Events in Hollywood, Fla. on March 2. “It had a beautiful outdoor area that was able to accommodate seats for 300 people!” Lorie said. “I envisioned my wedding outside under a large tree filled with lights that would glow as the sun was setting. Our venue filled that vision and more.” The bride wore a strapless sweetheart lace mermaid wedding gown, accessorized with her hair half-up/half-down in loose curls, fingertip-length veil, and a pair of Anthropologie peep-toe high heels, while the groom wore a three-piece suit, accessorized with a patterned tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched long dresses and carried bouquets of garden roses, dahlias, orchids, and TK. “Although I gave my bridesmaids and florist a color palette of warm sage greens, corals, and lavenders, I let my bridesmaids choose the colors that they felt most comfortable in, and my florist chose the colors she was most inspired by,” she said. “Not knowing what I would see until the wedding day arrived gave the whole day a huge sense of spontaneity.” Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look. Yuval’s reaction — priceless! Lorie walked down the aisle to “Do You Realize?” by The Flaming Lips performed by a small string band. “There was this solitary and quiet moment right beforehand,” Lorie said. “I had never felt more in the moment than at that moment.” Following the Jewish rituals, at last the breaking of the glass underneath the chuppah, the newlyweds resorted to the reception inside. Tables were decorated with white linens, mercury glass centerpieces, picture frame numbers, and votive candles. Lots of dancing occurred! So much so that a “delicious gelato truck, HipPop, came to cool off guests after a night of celebrating,” she said. Everyone also went home with “I Do Brew” beer from Wynwood Brewing Company along with a pint glass. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Create a big picture vision for your day, and have faith that it will manifest,” Lorie said. “Surrender the details when you need to.”
Brittney and Matthew were married at The Trivium in Forest, Va. on September 13. “I had always dreamed of having an outdoor wedding, but I also have a very Type A personality and had to have a venue that had an indoor location we could move to if it rained,” Brittney said. “The Trivium had several locations to choose from . . . the whole venue has a Southern charm about it that I just fell in love with and knew that no matter where our ceremony ended up being there, it would be beautiful without us really having to do anything to it.” The bride wore a strapless beaded a-line wedding gown with a ruched bodice, accessorized with her hair down in loose curls, floor-length veil, and a pair of bow platform peep-toe pumps, while the groom wore a gray suit, accessorized with a matching vest and tie. Bridesmaids wore short one-shoulder navy blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, dahlias, calla lilies, berries, and seeded eucalyptus. “I made the decision to not wear my mother’s wedding gown, but she gave me the option to do whatever I wanted with it,” she said. “Our caterer also did our flowers and their creativity blew me away. My dress had lace on it, so they took the lace from one of my mother’s sleeves and wrapped it around the stem of my bouquet.” Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look. “There are so many, from our first look to our first dance, there are multiple moments through the course of the day I play over and over in my mind,” Brittney said. “I think my favorite is when Matt and I said our personal vows. We did the traditional vows, but I also wanted us to exchange personal vows to each other. I remember listening to Matt read his and hearing all these things he was telling me that I knew were truly from his heart. During that moment, it was like it was just the two of us alone expressing our love for each other and really did get lost in what we were sharing.” The reception took place inside the ballroom. Tables were decorated with checkered linens, white napkins, gold charger plates, and pumpkin centerpieces surrouned by chiavari chairs. In addition to a three-tiered ribbon cake topped with a rhinestone H, there was also a groom’s cake shaped like a dog in a Penn State football jersey. “He absolutely loved the surprise!” she said. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Enjoy the process,” Brittney said. “You’re going to get stressed out and something (maybe several things) is going to go wrong, but it’s okay. Don’t let it ruin your experience. All through my planning, I kept saying at the end of the day, I was going to be married and that’s what mattered, and all I really had to have to make that happen was my husband-to-be, a pastor, and a marriage license.”
Kristina and Will were married at the White Orchid Beach House in Wailea-Makena, Hawaii on October 14 — all the way from Australia. The bride wore a sweetheart ruched a-line wedding gown, accessorized with a headband in her loose curls, while the groom wore a gray vest and pants, accessorized with argyle socks. Bridesmaids looked oh-so lovely in navy blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of all-white roses, orchids, and calla lilies. As intimate as the ceremony was overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the reception was even more so lit with a crystal chandelier, paper lanterns, and candles. Not to mention the palm trees! Each place setting featured a “thank you” tin for guests to take home with them. Can you guess what was inside? Well, it’s a secret.
If you want to give your centerpieces that “wow” factor as your guests are being seated at the reception, consider adding texture amongst flowers in mason jars with cotton, thistle, billy balls, wheat, lotus pods, or fern curls.
