I don’t know about all of you ladies, but all I’ve ever heard about bridal expos were horror stories. Though I’m more of an “I need to try it before I knock it” type of person and a couple expos were coming close to town, I’m right outside the Boston area, so they do come frequently. I grabbed a bridesmaid and my groom and off we went. I’ll start with the positives; the venue was gorgeous (though we already had one), there were a TON of vendors so we definitely wouldn’t get bored, and then the DJ they had was taking requests. We walked by our first vendor who happened to own the limos outside, now we already had our limos so I told the gentleman thinking that he wouldn’t want to waste his time on us.
Well, I was wrong. And he talked my ear off for almost a half an hour trying to get us to switch to his company ( I won’t name them here!) instead of ours, paying no mind that we were paying much, MUCH less for our limos because it was OUTSIDE of the Boston area. The only reason we stayed as long as we did was to hope to win one of their drawings. We didn’t. The same three brides won everything, I know that may sound like exaggeration. It’s not. So I thought hey, I’m done with these things, they are like everyone says. That was that.
UNTIL we went to the mall in our city and low and behold, there was an expo right in the middle of the walkways. I couldn’t really avoid trying one or five of those chocolate covered strawberries, and neither could my BMs! Which lead us into talking to almost every PLEASANT vendor in the area. We even won some free stuff, nothing major, but for not going out of our way and spending no money, it was pretty awesome.
Which now leads me to my best expo story yet… I talked Sunflower dude and my bridesmaid to go back to yet another expo. And it was a blast. The venue, again, was gorgeous. The limo drive took “no thank you” very kindly and even gave us his card, a pen and some candy! Haha. They served us food and dessert in these adorable little cups. The DJ plays fantastic music. And we even found the company who would do our photography (and free engagement session) along with videography and tuxes for a fantastic price.
My advice is don’t knock something until you try it… twice.
