Creative Groom’s Cake Ideas

Posted by Iris Bud on Dec 23, 2009

I’m always looking for ways to get Iris Dude involved in planning the wedding.  However, there aren’t a lot of things he gets really excited about.  This flower or that flower?  This plate or that plate?  This song or that song?  Let’s face it – those things just aren’t that interesting to him (and I don’t blame him – they’re barely interesting to me).  However, one thing he is excited about is his groom’s cake!

From what I understand, the groom’s cake began as a southern tradition.  It was usually  a fruitcake, which is why many “traditional” grooms cakes today are dark in color.  These days, the grooms cake is a way for grooms to show their personality, and it’s often a decision that they alone make.  Some people choose to serve this cake at the wedding reception, along with the wedding cake.  We have chosen to serve ours at the rehearsal dinner.

Here are a few ideas I found online.

For a groom who is a Lego fan, you can’t do better than these cupcakes:

And last but not least – this is what my fiancé is ordering for his cake. For Apple nerds (and I use that term with affection!) you really can’t beat this:

I know most of these cakes tend are pretty geeky, but that’s probably because my fiancé and I are both pretty geeky.  There are plenty of cakes relating to almost any male obsession out there – sports, beer, etc!  Make sure he explores the full realm of creativity that’s available to him!
