Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
What music genres are in your collection?

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Describe your DJ style:
Professional. I make all necessary announcements to keep the guests informed. But, I let the guests enjoy themselves without the DJ blabbing on the microphone all night.

What is your usual attire?
Tuxedo for formal weddings. Other attire upon request.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
I try to provide all music. But, you are welcome to provide special songs you have that are hard to find.

How many other DJs do you work with?
I give you my sole attention.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
My rates include up to 4 hours.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Yes. I highly recommend that we meet in person at least once if not twice. We are set up to video conference through Skype in case you can't meet in person.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
No

Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Some lighting upon request.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
1-1/2 hours set-up. Most venues will want to provide a skirted table to match their set-up. However, I can provide my own table with black skirting. About 45 mins for tear-down.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
No

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I emcee the formal events. Introductions, dinner, cake cutting, formal dances. I do not talk between songs.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Many clients are kind and offer a meal out of courtesy. But by no means are you required to feed your vendors.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Music is always playing.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
As a member of the American Disc Jockey Association, I have a large network of DJ's to fill in for emergencies.

What is your overtime rate?
$125/hour

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Only if an unusual ammount of travel is required. Then a cost to cover gas is negotiated with the client.

Tips and Advice

Before You Hire A DJ

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!  What an exciting time.  Now it’s time to hire your vendors to make sure your special day brings a lifetime of beautiful memories.  Let’s talk about your DJ and my advice on what you should do before you sign that contract (Yes, make sure your DJ has a contract!) for your entertainment.  First things first, meet your DJ in person.  You will have to trust your entire event to this person to determine how well things flow and how good of a time your guests will have.   Anyone can blow smoke and use mirrors on their website or over the phone.    But a person-to-person meeting will show you what kind of DJ you are dealing with.  Also, make sure you are going to have the DJ you are meeting with at your event, not someone else!

Do not hire your DJ based on price.  That’s like paying for a McDonald’s cheeseburger and expecting a Fuddruckers burger!   How many times have you heard, you get what you pay for?   Don’t let some DJ fool you into thinking you’re getting a bargain because they claim to have professional equipment and a huge selection of music and only cost $400.  Anyone can buy some decent equipment these days at a low price and download tons of illegal songs off the internet for free.  Besides, what good is it to have 20,000 songs if none of it is popular dance music? Ask them questions about their planning skills. Do they help the Bride in planning their events?  What wedding experience do they have?  Do they have wedding references?  Do they know the formalities of weddings and receptions?  Did they get their music legally?  Do they have a back-up DJ in case of an emergency?  Do they have back-up equipment?

Remember, your DJ is going to be responsible for many things.  Planner… wouldn’t it be helpful for someone to sit down with you and help you plan and schedule all these things out well in advance?   Emcee… the DJ should have a good mic voice and make all the formal announcements such as the introductions, the food, the cake cutting and the formal dances.  Coordinator… making sure the caterers are ready with the food, making sure the photographer and videographer are ready for the next event, making sure the champagne is poured for the toasts, making sure the father or mother are not in the restroom before the formal dances.   Entertainer… playing the right music at the right time to keep the guests dancing or leading any interactive dances.

Once you feel you have found the right DJ to meet all your needs, one you feel very comfortable with, then you can feel confident in hiring that DJ for your event.  Whether you choose Wag’s DJ Service or another, I wish you the very best wedding day ever!
