Established in 1926, the Breakers Hotel was described by a Los Angeles Times staff writer as a “structure of ultra-Spanish architecture.” It was adorned with lavish decorations surrounding the doorway and lobby, a rooftop garden, a saltwater pool at basement level and a broadcasting station located in the tower. Standing 15 stories tall as the most prominent building in the area, the original Breakers Hotel was later sold to Conrad Hilton.
As the eighth Hilton chain, the 1938 reopening occurred in time to entertain the servicemen brought to Long Beach by World War II. In preparation of possible enemy invasions, a concrete machine gun bunker was installed in the red tile-roofed tower that still remains. The most remarkable change Hilton made was adding a restaurant and nightclub covering the entire top floor, appropriately calling it “The Sky Room.”
Today, The Sky Room has preserved history by encompassing an art-deco design, live entertainment on the dance floor, a romantic ambience and a spectacular 360-degree view of the city’s skyline and Long Beach harbor. Celebrating the restaurant’s 50th Anniversary, The Sky Room is one of Long Beach’s most historic landmarks and valued treasures.
The Sky Room reception package includes black linen with a white overlay, a complimentary bud rose and votive candle centerpiece and the use of the dance floor. In addition, your guests would have their option of entree based on the menu that you select. The Sky Room offers a custom wedding cake as part of the menu package. Once contracted, you would go to Rossmoor Pastries for a tasting and they would create the custom wedding cake of your dreams. Our service staff is our A-list and therefore completely responsible to the manager for ensuring your event runs smoothly. The views from the Sky Room are peerless; on the one hand you can see clear to the Hollywood sign and on the other, the beautiful Catalina Island.
Along with our positive history of successful weddings, the Sky Room has been recognized with the following awards
The AAA Four Diamond Award in 2007. The Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRONA) in 2006. Wine Spectator Magazine has recognized the Sky Room with their Award of Excellence. The North American Restaurant Association Five Star Award of Excellence. Zagat Guide recognizes us as Extraordinary.
