In this day and time, it’s hard to find the right Dj for your event. There are many things people don’t think about when hiring a Dj, we will go over some of the beliefs and misconceptions to help you get through this matter.
Q. Can any Dj do a wedding?
A. No. You need a Dj who is trained in this type of event.
Q. My friend is a Dj, cant I hire them.
A. You can if you want, just make sure they are trained for this type of event. The only problem with hiring a friend is, they can get comfortable at the event, and thus they don’t really do the best job because they are doing you a favor. Some Dj’s even get offended when asked to do an event for friends. “So you are inviting me to go to your wedding but you want me to work instead of have a good time”.
Q. What type of Dj are you.
A. You really do need a Dj that can cater to any crowd. There is a strong belief that a Club Dj can’t do a Wedding and vice versa, this is not true, it all depends on the experience of the Dj, but make sure you know who you are hiring.
Q. What type of music do you have or do you have a play list?
A. Some Dj’s will and will not give you a play list. If a Dj does great for them, there are several Dj websites that suggest play list for Dj’s to have, they will copy the list and hand it straight to you and this is what most of them do, and that is the gist of their music. A Dj really should just ask you what you want and be able to provide it, which makes your event unique.
Q. Do you provide lighting?
A. Most Dj’s will provide a small basic light system at no charge, but thee are some who will charge you a great deal for lighting. Make sure you know what’s included and what will cost extra.
Q. Do you have Insurance?
A. Many people and Dj’s don’t know that most venues require an outside entertainer to have insurance. Your events is about to start… the Dj is set up… the banquet manager comes out and ask for insurance and the Dj doesn’t have any… well guess what, your event just came to an end. To be safe make sure you hire someone with insurance and ask for proof before you sign anything.
Q. Do you have a contract?
A. Never hire a Dj without a contract! You need to make sure the Dj is responsible for their actions, if they don’t show, you can get your money back, and in the worst case you have proof of service to be done if things go to court.
