About

My name is Wayne Boyland. I’ve been a professional DJ since 2001 and pride myself on being fluent in many musical genres. In addition to weddings, for example, I also do events specifically for kids, teens, young adults and seniors. One of the many parts of a wedding that I truly enjoy is that I’m often called upon to play music for every member of the family from young to old.

Of course, playing the right song at the right time is important and takes practice and skill. Softer, romantic songs that appeal to a wide variety of tastes and ages
work very well during dinner and then gradually I’ll pick up the pace and energize the crowd to get up and dance. I enjoy the challenge of making it all appear seamless and natural. I’m normally low key because I feel it’s my job to make the bride and groom shine - not me. I take great care to make introductions and announcements sound very professional - but for couples who like things more playful, I love to help out with any games or line dance lessons along with encouraging the dancers.

All of my equipment is 100% pro quality. 450 Watt QSC Amp, Electro Voice speakers and Sub woofers, Gemini mixer, dual CD player, laptop computer loaded with 60,000 songs of all types (going back to the big band era and right up to this week’s releases), PCDJ special pro DJ software, wireless microphone, wired microphone. Although I play 99% of the time from the computer, I bring thousands of CD’s as back up just in case. I can definitely rock the house. In fact, it’s kind of rare that I really get to crank the equipment all the way up. For most events it’s too loud.

Before a wedding, I encourage the bride and groom to meet with me so they’ll know who will be playing the music and so we can discuss their vision for their big day.   I listen to all of their requests and  encourage them to provide a list of the songs, if any, that they absolutely do not want to hear, along with others that I’m to play only if requested. I then plan the most effective time to use each song they’ve requested to get the best response. I watch the crowd carefully during the event to make sure I’m reading them correctly and playing just the right song to keep them (and you) happy.

I look forward to helping you create A Sound Plan for your wedding day!

Describe your DJ style:
Attentive, low key, classy, friendly, dedicated to making your day all about you.

What is your usual attire?
Whatever I am requested to wear - a suit and tie, a tuxedo or a Hawaiian shirt, I'm prepared to dress to your preference. No matter what attire is preferred, I will always be dressed in a classy and understated way.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
I line up all of the music for your wedding day in advance. If after exhausting every source available I'm not able to locate a specific song, I'll contact you.

How many other DJs do you work with?
I have a good relationship with a few other dependable DJs in the area that I can call on when needed.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely. I believe it's one of the best ways for you to determine whether or not we'll work well together.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
I've done several and enjoyed them very much, but do not specialize in any.

Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Karaoke upon request

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I typically arrive 1 hour ahead of time. I do request a 6'skirted table with easy access to a power outlet.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
Only if karaoke is requested. I would need space for an additional, much smaller table.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I love introducing the wedding party and making the announcements you'd like. I occasionally make a comment between songs, especially later in the reception if I think it will help generate more energy on the dance floor. If your preference is no introduction or announcements, I will not make any. This is certainly one of the areas we'll cover during your pre-wedding consultation.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
No. It is always appreciated when a meal is provided, but not required. I eat discreetly from my table while I continue working.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
N/A

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes.

What is your overtime rate?
If the event runs longer than originally planned, my normal hourly rate applies.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
I typically do not charge for travel unless the event is less than 4 hours long and the venue is more than an hour's drive away.
