Additional Questions and Answers
For many of you selecting and buying a diamond seems intimidating. This section is meant to provide a basic education on purchasing diamonds.

There are four factors that make up the value of a diamond, and they are color, clarity, cut and carat. You may have heard these factors referred to as the "4Cs". Each of these four factors plays a part in the pricing of a diamond. You can prioritize certain factors over others. For example, you can decide size is more important than color, or clarity is less important than color, etc.

Reviewing the "Four Cs":
Color:
Diamond color generally ranges from D-Z, clear to toned. D is the clearest. Around S the diamonds become known as "Fancy" yellow diamonds. The finest colors, around D, E, and F, are very clear.
Clarity:
Diamond clarity ranges from flawless/perfect to I (included). The chart below will be helpful.
Internally Flawless: exterior has some minor flaws
VVS1, VVS2 (very, very slightly imperfect): have some minute inclusions that are extremely difficult to see.
VVS1 inclusions are only visible through a loop magnified 10 times.
VVS2 inclusions are more easily found and readily seen. However, for both VVS1 and VVS2, the inclusions can only been spotted by someone who has had a lot of experience looking at diamonds, and the viewer must be using a loop magnified 10 times.
VS1,VS2(very slightly imperfect): have some very small inclusions. VS1 inclusions are more difficult to see than VS2.
SI1, SI2 (slightly imperfect): all have small inclusions. These can only be seen in a loop.
I1, I2, I3(visibly included): have inclusions that may be seen by the naked eye.
Carat:
There are 100 points in a carat. Diamonds will cost more per carat weight. Carat is probably the least important factor in determining the value and quality of a diamond. In other words, when purchasing a diamond, bigger does not necessarily mean better.
Cut:
The cut of the diamond is what unleashes its brilliance and lets it truly shine.
Diamond cutting requires knowledge and skill. Precise cutting will optimize the diamondÕs optical properties and allow light going in to be refracted and reflected back out, and the color to be dispersed. Because of the complexity in cutting a diamond, Cut is the most critical of the "4Cs".

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DIAMOND JEWELRY:
You have chosen your diamond, now here's how to care for it.
Diamonds can chip or crack if they are struck. To avoid damage, take off your diamond ring if you are doing rough work with your hands.
Store your diamond separately, otherwise the diamond may scratch other jewelry, especially other diamonds.

Clean your diamond with a jeweler's polishing cloth for the metal setting. Diamonds are "magnets" for oils, which adhere to the back of the diamond (the top generally is kept cleaner from being constantly wiped off). Be sure to clean your diamond, especially the back of the stone, with a toothbrush and a "grease cutting action" detergent. Skylight will always clean your jewelry for free anytime you visit us. It is a good reason to drop by and say "hello"!

OUR PROMISE TO YOU:
