Tips and Advice
Fit is important when purchasing any gown...so ALWAYS be measured before you buy...any bridal shop will do this for you or you can use a cloth measuring tape and do it yourself (around the fullest part of the bust, small of the waist: bend sideways and this is the spot - if you need help finding where this point is, and fullest part of the hips and buttocks) and you may be able to find out the designer of the dress you love as well and look up their size charts. Also if you are taller than 5’9" you will need to order extra length on the dress (if available - i.e. you are ordering a dress in special order from the manufacturer) other wise you will need to consider that most gowns are made to a standard 5’8" length. Also, Size charts vary...so with this in mind...if you are in size 12 jeans (especially hip huggers) a size 12 dress will not usually fit as they run small...however, don’t fret, if the dress is satin it can usually be let out 2-3 sizes. And if you are ordering a dress on-line from a consignment shop...I.E. like me, you will also need to be aware that some times these dresses have been altered...but any good business would tell you on their site if it was altered or, if it was never worn (was new or gently used, etc...) Caution is key. One Great thing about wedding gowns in candlelite or white..or other gowns in basic colors (i.e. black, claret, etc...) material can be added if you get the dress and it is too small. or even a corset tie placed where the zipper would be. If it is a chiffon dress for instance...there is no seam allowance in the dress to let it out...taking in a dress no matter what the fabric is not a problem however. So if you are unsure...always go bigger 1 to 2 sizes than what you measure at and then you will be sure that it can at least be altered to fit you...as most on-line purchases are non-returnable and non-refundable. Hope this guide was helpful to you. I look forward to helping you should you have any questions.
