Describe your DJ style:
I like to keep the music going and people dancing. I take requests and read the crowd to mix in the perfect blend of songs that everyone can enjoy. I use my experience on the club turntables to create energy on the dance floor.
What is your usual attire?
I wear black pants and a white or black shirt. I look professional, but not better dressed that the groom!
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
I can get almost anything a bride requests. (That 17 minute live bootleg recording of Jimmy Cliff in '72 might be hard to come by though.) All my music is high quality and from reputable sources. (purchased CD's, iTunes, vinyl cuts, etc)
How many other DJs do you work with?
I run my own business. I do not work for a "DJ Company." I will be the one working at your wedding, not some "rent-a-kid."
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
2-3 hours is about the minimum.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
I communicate via phone calls and emails. This is the best way to get written information such as song lists and bridal party info. I will meet with brides upon request and work out some details in person.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Music selection is always a concern for ethnic events. I have done various ethnic parties, but some music has always been provided.
Do you bring your own equipment?
I own all my equipment and maintain it properly. I also carry back-up devices for critical parts. The music will play!
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
I offer a wealth of lighting effects. I can keep it simple with a disco ball and some colored flood lights or I can turn your wedding into a computerized techno show that will put some Chicago night clubs to shame. The lights are outlined in the lighting packages.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I need about 30 minutes to an hour to set up depending on the light equipment. I do not require a table, only an outlet.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
I fit into small spaces! :)
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
No, other than introductions and announcements. I find this annoying and it breaks up the music and dancing. I mix many of the songs together to keep people moving the entire night.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Providing a meal to the DJ's and the Photographers is appreciated, but not required. My wife helps me out and I know that meals are expensive. The bride makes the call on this one and there is a spot on the contract for this decision.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Dinner music is mostly pre-recorded, but can be customized for your tastes.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I have other DJ friends that can fill in for me in case of emergency. In 15 years, I have not had a problem! :)
What is your overtime rate?
I do not charge by the hour, so the contract time needs to be set in advance. When in doubt, go 'till midnight.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
I do not charge for travel expenses, but don't expect me to drive to Idaho.
