Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Black and white, sepia tones, selective item coloring on a black and white background, colored center of photo fading to black and white.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have experience with all lighting situations.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I use digital media because it allows me to view the pictures as I take them, and gives me a chance to reshoot immediately if there is a problem such as eyes being close, not smiling, etc...

How many photographers do you work with?
Myself and my daughter.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes unless there is an unforeseen emergency that forces me to be unable to be there. In case this happens I do refund 100% of your monies paid to date.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
No, I only book one wedding per scheduled day so I can give my full attention to your special day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
No, but I am working on finding one.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
My main camera, back up camera, off camera flash, extra batteries, several memory cards.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
Usually my packages include a set number of hours, and then I can bill for any additional hours you require of me.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes, I charge $45 an hour over booked times.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Usually just need to take a bathroom break once in awhile or to change a battery, etc.... but the majority of my time is spent capturing your wedding moments.

Do you charge for travel?
Not within the state of Wisconsin.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
I try to work on them as soon as possible, but most events are posted online for proofing within 5 days of the wedding depending on exactly how many photos I have taken and whether I have another wedding on the same weekend.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
I offer a proofbook of images along with large previews via an online proof viewer. This system allows you and your guests to purchase images as well.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The proof book is yours to keep.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes. I do from time to time use select images on my business card, on my website, or in photography contests.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
No, but I can make a disc of the images available for purchase.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes.

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer a wide variety of albums from keepsake to hardcover magazine like albums. See my website for more information.

When will the client get the final album?
The timing on this depends on how many images, what type of book and which lab I use to print it. I can give a better estimate of time once we have a chance to talk and find out what you're interested in.

Additional Questions and Answers
How long have you been a professional wedding photographer? May I see samples of your work?
I have been doing photography for about 10 years now, but have offered my services as a professional for about 5 years now. Samples of my work are available thru my website.

There is a 10% discount on all image orders made thru our proofing system for the first 30 days after the wedding.

You may order images at any time after your wedding date.  Anything ordered after the calendar year will be charged a small research fee as I will have to go back thru my archived image files to find the images you are ordering.

Do you include reprints or albums in your pricing?
Please check my wedding package pricing.  I do include some prints and an album with them.

If you have any questions that you don't see here, please contact me.  As I receive questions not listed here I will update the list to reflect those.

Thank you!
Cynthia

Tips and Advice
Wedding photography tips for the bride.
- Start early if possible;  eight to 12 months before your wedding. Most weddings take place on a Saturday, and many areas of the country have a “wedding season” – so this leaves a limited number of available dates any photographer has. The good ones can fill their calendars quickly, so the earlier you start, the more options you will have.
- The advantages of going digital. More and more wedding photographers are using digital cameras, and this can offer several advantages. These include: the photographer’s ability to see the photos immediately after taking them, thus allowing reshoots when necessary; the ability to take more photos in a shorter amount of time; the option of viewing the photos online; and more.
- Prepare your list of formal photos ahead of time! Your day will go so much more smoothly, and you’ll be much happier with the final results, if you take the time before your wedding to prepare a very specific, well-thought-out list of photos you’d like taken. This is especially important with more complicated families involving divorce and remarriage.
- Assign a friend or family member to help with the formal photos. While taking the formal posed portraits, it speeds the process along tremendously if you can assign someone the job of rounding up the right people for the next photo. It can be quite time-consuming, and frustrating, to stand around waiting while the search for the best man continues. It helps if the person to whom you assign this task is familiar with most of the people in both families and the wedding party.
- Be aware of any photo restrictions. Some ceremony sites have restrictions on photography, such as limitations on where the photographer can be during the ceremony, or limitations on flash photography. Check with your officiant and/or ceremony site manager to see if there are ANY photo restrictions you should be aware of, and if there are, be sure to share these with your photographer ahead of time.
- Be aware that you are paying your photographer to do a professional job for you and that many things your guests do can affect the quality of their work. Please remind your wedding guests not to take their own pictures while the photographer is working. Many photographers have stumbled and fallen on guests standing or kneeling behind them attempting to get the same shot as them. Keep your guests in their seats so they don’t hinder the movements of your photographer so they can get the shots you’ve requested they take. Flashes from other cameras can also make your photographers images look poor and cause them to be unusable. It is not the photographers’ job to remind your guests that they are there to take the photos, not them. You’re paying for professional services so let the professionals do their job.
- The day’s schedule – when to take the formal portraits? It can be quite convenient for your guests if you take ALL of the formal shots before the wedding, so that the guests can go directly to the reception after the ceremony, without having to find a way to kill a few free hours. You may also find that it makes your day less nerve-wracking if you and your groom can see each other before the ceremony, and spend a few quiet minutes together. Of course, many couples want that exciting moment when the groom sees his bride – in full regalia – for the first time as she starts down aisle towards him. Either way, make sure that you arrive to the reception in a timely manner, not much later than your guests. You two are the hosts – the stars of the day, and your guests want to see you! Quite frankly, it’s blatantly rude to miss the entire cocktail hour, and swoop in just as the meal is beginning. (Or, heaven forbid, after the meal is served!) So take the time to plan your schedule efficiently, and be sure to leave enough time for any posed photos. Your photographer can help you with this.
- Capture the details. Be sure to specify on your photos list any special and unique touches you’ve included in your wedding, so the photographer can capture those details on film. Whether it’s an embellished guest book, a custom pillow for the ring bearer, an embroidered handkerchief passed down from your Grandmother or a beautiful pair of shoes on the bride… you’ll want to have lasting memories of the beautiful details that made your wedding unique and personal.
